The purpose of MOFGA, the oldest and largest state organic organization
in the USA, is to help farmers and gardeners grow organic food, to
protect the environment, to promote stewardship of natural resources,
to increase local food production, to support sustainable rural communities,
and to illuminate for consumers the connections among healthful food,
environmentally sound farming practices, and vital local communities.
The Minnesota Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental protection and sustainable development in greater Minnesota. We seek to learn from and integrate those value systems that society has mistakenly set forth as contradictory, including economic and environmental benefit, traditional and emerging lifestyles, rural and urban perspectives, advocacy for communities and community self-direction. We see areas of commonality between these values, and do not wish to perpetuate dualistic thinking. Our current programs in energy, agriculture, and building sustainable communities are built around the integration of economy, environment and strong rural communities.
Multinational Exchange for Sustainable Agriculture (MESA) oversees U.S. ecological on-the-farm internships for young international farming stewards. The annual programs last 8-12 months, usually beginning April 1. In exchange for the full-time committment of experienced farmer interns, hosts provide room, board & training. Hosts also send monthly program fees to MESA which, in turn, enable the organization to provide all interns with stipends, medical insurance, educational events, domestic travel and administrative support.

NEWOOF is a regional Farm Apprenticeship Placement Service. Sponsored by the New England Small Farm Institute, and coordinated from their offices in Massachusetts, NEWOOF annually publishes an annotated list of farms (generally in the Northeast) seeking apprentices. The list is made available to interested workers who are responsible for contacting the farm(s) of their choice, and directly arranging for interviews.
