WWOOF was founded in 1971 and is one of the world’s first educational and cultural exchange programs. Today, WWOOF is in more than 132 countries around the world (and growing).

I cannot recommend Four O'Clock Farm enough. Susan and Jim were amazing hosts who taught me quite a bit in my week-long stay with them. The meals were incredible, and the yurt was very comfortable. It became clear from the beginning that Susan and Jim both had a real goal of introducing people to a thoughtful, peaceful, and deliberate way of living. They were excellent teachers, and I am truly grateful to both of them.

Bruce and Karen are very kind people and they treated me like family. The lavender farm was beautiful and the animals were so sweet! Karen is an amazing cook, a vibrant personality and very creative. She makes all her own lavender products. They were both very supportive of my journey and Bruce gave great practical advice. Being around them and in their home was a healing experience for me. The accommodations were also very comfortable. Thank you both for hosting me, I would love to return in the future!!

The farm was wonderful! Exactly the mind of hospitality and learning experience we had been hoping for on our wwoofing adventure this summer. My boys were able to explore and learn. Spend time doing chores with the rabbit, chicken, cows, and ducks. We cleaned up the garden readying it for fall. The cabin was so cute and cozy! We enjoyed the rhythms of the place and hope to return soon.

Martha is an absolute gem. First of all, she is a peony goddess. Secondly, she is incredibly hard working. And, thirdly, she is kind, patient, and an EXCELLENT teacher. I am rather introverted, so after a long day of work, she and I were rather pleased to return to our respective cabins to chill. That being said, the location of the farm is isolated, so if you want to explore Alaska, you'll need a rental car. The work can become rather monotonous, but it becomes meditation at a certain point. I highly recommend bringing a project or a hobby to work on. The work REALLY picks up during harvest, but it is so fun and such an exciting time to see the field in bloom! This Alaskan family is so quirky and amazing, they gave me hope that there are still good people in this world. WOOFERS have two accommodation options: Tiny house (a renovated camper van) or the Guest House (larger more spacious cabin). I spent some time in both and while the Guest House is larger and more spacious, I fell in love with the Tiny House. Less is more, you know? Martha is an excellent cook and provided me all the food I requested. In both cabins, there are stovetops for preparing your breakfast and lunch. If you are interested in learning about farming or about off the grid living, I highly recommend this site! Also, on clear days, there is a view of Denali :)

Spending time at Hawthorne Farm was an absolutely wonderful experience. Alexia, Daniel and the rest of the Hawthorne folks are all exceptionally kind, generous and knowledgeable. From the time of my arrival until I left, it was clear these were folks who truly live their values - their integrity and passion for their land and farm is infectious! The accommodations were private and so nice, and meals were generous and made with fresh harvested (delicious!) food. I primarily shadowed Alexia during my stay, and was amazed with the amount of knowledge she had to share. She is a natural, patient and engaging teacher. I had the chance to work on so many things that it's hard to sum up, but a few of my favorites were working on tanning hides with Daniel's expert instruction, working with their equines, learning everything from hoof maintenance and care to having the opportunity to work with Ms. Daisy the draft horse, learning more about their rabbitry and tending and cultivating their thriving gardens. The farm is a bustling place with so many great folks coming in and out, and it was a pleasure to feel included in the goings-on during each week. I am so thankful for the trust, energy and knowledge the folks at Hawthorne Farm put into me during my stay, and will be taking so much away from my experience! I couldn't recommend a stay with them more :)

Fleischer Family Farm was a great experience and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. Living right on farm property made for a short commute ;) but also allowed me to harvest veggies whenever for lunches/dinners! The tiny house is cozy as well. The Fleischers are all very nice and helpful. As someone who's never done farm work before, I found them patient and willing to answer any questions I had. Honestly, the entire team and other volunteers are incredible and really made my wwoofing experience wonderful! I'd highly recommend staying for at least 4 weeks to truly witness growth and change on the farm. It was my favorite part and made all the labour so rewarding.

Stayed at MBF for a month with two other friends! We all had a fantastic experience. It was great to work under Beth, she exemplified care for all of the animals while still giving us choice on how to complete tasks. It was a great opportunity to connect with the community through pizza night, build friendships w the farm staff, and learn about livestock care in a welcoming environment! Love y’all!!

My stay was exactly what I had in mind. I was looking for an opportunity to connect with the land and community. The garden had a lot of general gardening tasks to keep me busy during my shifts. The garden work during July was mostly maintenance and harvesting. If you want to be more in a learning mindset in the garden, consider coming in late spring to be more involved in the planning/planting. The community of individuals who work/stay there were great and interesting company. It's not necessary to have a car, as long as you don't mind making friends with the other workers to get rides into town/to explore the island. Idyllic 3 week stay among the trees and water. Good food too! Thanks for everything Doe Bay!

Mark and Christine were fabulous hosts and taught me so much about farming. They put a lot of heart and sweat into their work which is very meaningful to the whole community. The place is beautiful, multi-faceted, and each animal has such distinct personalities. Very comfortable to stay at as well. It was an honor to be able to document their practices.

I really enjoyed helping out (and hanging out with) Kate and Mike during my time here, and unfortunately wasn't able to meet Sharen while she was recovering from surgery. Since both Mike and Kate work full-time, it was great to be able to ensure that the farm would continue to run smoothly during the week when they didn't have time to focus on it. They have a lovely property right near the river and are doing a great job of growing a diverse range of crops on farmland that has been in the family for decades and that they are aiming to preserve as farmland forever. The farm has been swimming in summer squash, cucumbers, tomatoes and herbs almost since I arrived, and there's still a lot more to come for the rest of the season. All in all, a great family, a great experience, a lovely summer spent in Vermont.

This was the perfect first WWOOF experience! I didn’t have any farming experience before this and honestly had no idea what to expect, but the team, including all of the amazing and perfect dogs, welcomed me warmly into the daily routines. Just by being able to listen to Liz, Ben, and Arlen during our morning meetings, while setting fences, or while performing the health check for all the sheep, I feel like I learned so much. Their conversation and positive attitude made every task enjoyable! During my stay I visited some charming farmers markets, experimented with wool dying, and caught a stunning sunset almost every evening on their amazing property. I know that I only grazed the surface of everyone’s depth of knowledge, and I hope to come back in a different season to learn more!
