We are seeking helpers as soon as possible. It is mandatory for you to read this entire profile and respond as I ask in the text. Thanks in advance. A poor man's paradise and woman's paradise on the Mendocino coast. Clean air, Clean water, Organic fresh picked Veggies! Artesian well with delicious crystal clear water, Flat land, Raised garden beds, Orchard. The pics of the garden are from last year. Work day is usually 8:00am to 12:00 5 days a week. I usually cook or supply food 4-5 days a week and you are on your own for weekend meals. We grow maritime area veggies such as cabbage, kale , chard, potatoes, squash, lettuce, garlic, onions, leeks, lots of flowers, etc, Area is very nice for beach walking, fishing, sightseeing, nature communing with large redwoods and much more. Speak English and basic Spanish. No children please. Pets are talked about on an individual basis but generally dogs are difficult here. I may make an exception for a well behaved dog. Because we are at our store all day Saturday and Sunday for now, stays of 5 days Monday-Friday only would be best and a good test to see if we would all like to extend your stay..., but I can work out a longer stay with the right individuals. That said, all the helpers have stayed a week or two or more, even months. If we all agree a longer stay is great. I would like 20ish hours a week or 4-5 hours a day of general labor at whatever you are good at or want to learn. I supply a living area, usually 3 meals a day, showers, washing machine etc. We eat mainly organic meals with mostly vegetable based ingredients, but we are not totally vegetarians. We don't eat beef or pork. We like this to be a mutually gratifying situation for all of us. We like to both teach and learn.  This is a FRAGRANCE FREE ranch. We are very sensitive to certain chemicals and fragrances. It is essential to have your own transportation as it is many miles to town and public transit is minimal. There is a private RV with an electric blanket, or space for your own RV or tent. Working on a studio type apartment that may or may not be ready upon your visit. If you have read all of this so far, please include the word MENDO in the first line of your email to us. Including this word helps us to determine serious inquiries and lets us know you cared enough to read our entire introduction. My response rate is only 91% because I don't respond when Mendo is not in the first line. Mandatory for all volunteers...You have profile photo and sufficient info about any prospective Wwoofers.  We speak on the phone first, I will check references, You must have a photo ID. I want to repeat....YOU MUST HAVE A VEHICLE when you visit us. Absolutely no hard drugs, hard liquor or heavy drinking. Please no perfumes, colognes, fragrances or chemical smells. You must have a vehicle to visit us. The living area is a basic 30 ft RV with an electric blanket and kitchen. The detached bathroom is also rustic but has a hot water heater, shower, sink and flush toilet. If the studio type apartment is ready upon your visit it is another housing option. It is Solar powered, has king size bed, wood heat, refrigerator and kitchen facilities. The cell phone service is spotty around here and you may or may not have service in some places here. You are welcome to use the wifi but only works well close the main house we are working on improving that and the improvement is in beta mode but functioning at the living areas. You must be willing to use safe Covid protocols. Organic methods: Composting and animal manure fertilizers. No poisons Certifications: not certified but follow organic practices Current projects: Garden work ...like soil digging, planting, transplanting, mulching, watering etc Also maybe brush burning, hauling and chipping. Area Beautification is always good. Waterproof boots, sun hat, sun screen and work gloves are good items to bring. Internet access available and getting improved but not super reliable in the living area...reliable in the work area

Thanking Sam & Herron for a fantastic experience!!! They went above and beyond to be the best hosts I can imagine. We learned a lot from them while working on their beautiful and very special property. They cooked great food (largely from their garden) and shared fun stories - we really enjoyed getting to know them. They are the type of people who help you want to do your best because of their generosity, kindness, structure, respect, and level of hospitality they provide. They are both knowledgeable and down-to-earth. Their accommodations are super comfortable and provide a functional and private area to stay.

I want to thank Sam and Heron for the incredible experience I had staying with them. From the very beginning, they made sure I had everything I needed — both physically and emotionally — and were always attentive, generous, and kind. The exchange between us was more than fair — it was truly rewarding. I was given three delicious and nourishing meals every day, often fresh from the garden, and always topped off with an amazing dessert. For accommodation, they provided me with a cozy cabin that included a bed, fridge, gas stove, and Wi-Fi. The bathroom and shower were located in a separate building, which gave me just the right amount of comfort and privacy. The work they asked of me was always fair, clear, and meaningful. On top of that, Sam went out of his way to help me find afternoon jobs so I could earn money to continue my travels — something I deeply appreciate. In short, I highly recommend Sam and Heron and their beautiful place. I’m grateful for everything they offered me, and I wish them all the best.

Sam and Heron hosted me for a brief, 5 day stay on their hand built and artistically fascinating property. We shared daily meals together, cooked by Sam. I tended to and weeded their vegetable garden and my free time was spent exploring the nearby towns (they are close to Fort Bragg and Mendocino). They occasionally invited friends over for visits, which helped to create a cozy environment. The accommodations they provided were generous with a private studio-type space in a separate part of the property. They were accommodating, and checked in often to make sure I had everything I needed.

Sam and Heron were such wonderful hosts. They were very generous to us, and also very accommodating to Em's vegetarian diet. The food they prepared for us was very fresh, wholesome, and always delicious. Mealtimes were always filled with rich conversation and good vibes. We learned a lot about gardening and homesteading. The people and places we got to experience were truly a blessing. Thank you so much for the amazing opportunity! We highly recommend this farm and we would love to come back. <3

My stay with Sam and Heron was fantastic! They have such a lovely property located in a beautiful part of California. Their garden is like something out of a fairytale, it's so lush and mesmerizing. Working and learning in their greenhouse and garden was such a privilege. In the morning we worked in the greenhouse preparing planters for the winter season and clearing out plant debris so it wouldn't mold. I learned the ratio of fertilizer to soil for healthy grow. We planted flower bulbs, picked apples and the most delicious grape tomatoes I've ever had in my life and after the morning's work we were free to explore. It was very fulfilling work but the best part by far were Sam and Heron. They are two wonderful hosts and genuinely kind people. Eating delicious home-cooked organic meals was made even better by having great conversations with Sam and Heron. I'm so grateful to them for sharing their home and way of life.

We had a fantastic time at Sam's place! In our week there, we spent the mornings weeding, watering, planting, mulching, pruning, etc., and spent the afternoons exploring the beautiful Mendocino coast. Sam and Heron are lovely hosts - they were very accommodating for a vegan diet and their meals were delicious without exception. They're a lively and entertaining couple with some great stories. Our accommodations were a comfortable and private RV. We'd absolutely recommend helping out here if you get the chance!
