Our mini farm is located on 1.24 acres a block from Bidwell Park and 1.5 miles from downtown Chico. We use permaculture to restore the soil and conserve water. We are gradually converting from lawn and unused fields to annual and perennial vegetables, flowers and fruit. The first year, we built a hoop house and use it for many veggie, herb and flower starts. We grow based on the seasons and preserve much of the harvest or put it in an honor stand. We would like to offer CSA’s or contract with local restaurants for local, organically grown food.
There are always new projects to work on such as building a pond, outdoor sink, composting, compost tea, drip irrigation, layering, taking care of chickens, pruning, making paths, seed saving and more. Much of our work requires some physical strength and stamina.
Since this is a college town, there is art, music, history and so much more. People in Chico love the outdoors and there is running, walking, swimming, hiking and cycling. We are an hour and a half from the Sierras, Mount Lassen and access to the Pacific Crest Trail.
We enjoy meeting new people and will help you learn if you are new to perma culture and farming. There is an extra bedroom in the house or you may have a tent in the yard or there is room to park a mobile trailer.
It is a small house, so we can only have one Wwoofer at a time. The house is kept very clean and tidy, and we expect the same of any guests.
Certifications: We are completely organic, using peramaculture techniques.
Current projects: Since we are small, if you are staying here, it would just be one or two weeks. One person.
We have had Wwoofers, who stayed with family during Covid, and then came a few times a week for 2 or 3 hours at a time. That worked very well.
