This is an 18 year homestead transitioning to a small scale organic farm on the Gila River in Southwest New Mexico. We sell at 1-2 farmers’ market a week and at the local food co-op. We currently have 13 goats (3 goats we milk), honey bee hives, and 4 hoop houses we grow in the spring, summer, and fall. Beautiful high desert environment surrounded by nature. 35-40 miles to the nearest town which is Silver City. The land is at 5,000 feet which makes it not so hot in the summer and pretty wintery in the winter. Even though we are at a similar latitude as Phoenix AZ. it is nothing like that kind of heat so don't be afraid to come in the summer. Accommodations (individual rooms; 3 singles up to 3 couples), hot shower, laundry, and meals are provided. You’ll have the opportunity to vegetable and medicinal herb growing and processing, goat care and dairy processing, and more. Open to short and long term help with farm chores. A one week trial period for all workers and assessing for longer stay after that.If it turns out you really dislike working the trial period will be shortened to three days. All buildings are hand built and homesteading skills and land setup can also be learned here. At some point I’d like to start a tree nursery for community tree planting projects. During your off days you can explore Gila National Forest, go for walks, go for a dip in the irrigation ditch, or venture out into the neighboring towns such as downtown Silver City (cafes, thrift shop, co-op, music stores, brewery, galleries). The farm is in a remote area so having your own vehicle is ideal for exploration purposes. I go to town a couple of times a week so rides can be provided. You will have the opportunity to meet a wholesome community of eclectic folks during your stay. I ask that guests please don't use strong chemical based perfumes and colognes while they are here as it contaminates the food we harvest and many people have adverse reactions to them.
