# THE OPPORTUNITY This is an opportunity for an individual or pair to live and work on a tropical farm and homestead just minutes away from some of the world's most beautiful beaches. The 4-acre farm uses permaculture and natural/organic farming methods to grow about 400 varieties of edible fruits and vegetables, including coconuts, mangoes, avocados, lychees, jackfruit, egg fruit, ginger, turmeric, bananas, ashwagandha, papaya, dragon fruit, passion fruit, and many more! The farm specializes in growing dragon fruit, passion fruit, and spicy peppers. We grow for personal consumption, the sale of produce and value-added products, and donation to community groups. We makeand sell hot sauce, fruit leather, dried herbs, juices, coconut water, coconut milk, sourdough bread, and more. All made in super small batches. We also sell fresh produce to restaurants, juice hales, small CSA program, and various food proveyors on island. Everything we do is small scale and done as a labor of love. But mostly, we are growing food for our family and the people who help grow the food . Brian is a former business owner and Lauren is a former educator, and we are looking for work-traders who fit our values and lifestyle. We are looking for work-traders who can make a minimum three-month commitment. # THE WORK WWOOFing on the farm is a great chance to learn new skills in an idyllic setting. We expect WWOOFers to help a minimum of 25 hours per week on the farm. Work hours are 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Here are examples of the types of activities you may be asked to do: weeding, planting, building new veggie beds, harvesting, deliveries, food processing, mulching, indoor and outdoor cleaning, and more. The farm is full-on. It's hot in the tropical sun. Some days we are working in the rain and mud. But we are also graced by beautiful weather, rainbows, and ocean views. When it gets too hot, you can take a quick dip in the ocean after work or cool off in the on-site outdoor shower. # HOUSING ARRANGEMENTS WWOOFers share a small rustic bungalow on the property with someone of the same gender. We host up to seven WWOOFers at a time and value a work-trade community that lifts each other up and emphasizes community, clear communication, and respect. We have a farm kitchen and hangout area for meals, projecting movies, or just snuggling cats. The bungalow is rustic and isn't a good fit for everybody. But if you love life outdoors, this could be perfect for you. There is a super-cool flush toilet and a hot outdoor shower with an insane view at the base of the Kalalea Mountains. There is Wi-Fi. You have access to produce from the farm for personal consumption. There are so many amazing fruits and vegetables, many of which may be new to you. Experimenting with preparing the food that you grow is one of the most rewarding aspects of work trading with us! # NEXT STEPS Send us a message through WWOOF with the dates you are available and any relevant experience related to farming, outdoor living, construction, cooking, etc. We will set up a short introductory call, and if things seem aligned, we will set up a FaceTime interview. If you're a good fit, we'd love to have you join our "farmalie"! Mahalo! Lauren & Brian

You won't regret contributing your time and attention to this place, whether it's a short or long stay I can guarantee you will take some piece of valuable knowledge with you and hopefully leave something lasting in your place. I spent 3 memorable winter months at KVF working mainly in the garden and nursery I gained skills I wasn't expecting and improved on ones I never thought I would, the trust given to us on the farm really allowed room to learn through experience. It was clear after one phone call that Brian is passionate about his care for the land and the people who stand on it. It warmed my heart to witness his relentless support of local non-profits through volunteer days, donations, and simply word of mouth advocacy. I encourage anyone who stays at KVF to get involved in local agricultural efforts, to simply lend a hand in the groundwork of any project is a special thing. Thank you Brian and the fam for having me, for all you taught me, for being a voice in the community, and for creating and upholding such a nourishing space for all who pass through it:) Sorry my review is late!

To say that this farm is abundant is understatement! I knew from the day I got picked up from the airport I was in for a fun, exciting and enhancing time at KVF. The hosts Brian and Lauren are very accommodating, kind and generous, opening their home to workers who are just as passionate and excited about life and farming. If you’re in Kauai, this is the only farm you need to go to because it is so abundant not only in food but in adventures, memories and amazing delicious Shabbat dinners held every Friday with special guests and appearances by their two talented daughters. I was able to cultivate a beautiful community of friends which I am very grateful for. Working with Brian was an amazing collaboration due to his enthusiasm and excitement for experimenting with new methods and training on the farm. He does not micromanage (which I loved) but guided each of us to allow us to shine in our niche abilities and interests. Overall he’s a great mentor, friend, and fun(great sense of humor) boss to work and get to know. Do be mindful that although the farm is (90%) abundant in food, splitting Costco runs with other workers is highly recommended for additional staple items. Otherwise enjoy a variety of delicious peppers, exotic fruits, native veggies(Kalo, Ulu, Tongan spinach) with a 10-15min walk to nearby beaches, a 30min walk to the nearest bus stop or hitch a ride with Brian for surfing or to attend local events. So lucky to have been able to stay 6 months with this farmily

This farm is an absolute dream! Throughout my 7 months here, there was always an awesome group of about 6-8 people. The garden is going off all the time allowing me to really eat about 90% just from the land and feel amazingly nourished. All kinds of food groups so every day my plate was a rainbow. The location is very safe and so beautiful with a beach about 10 minute walk away. Brian and Lauren are amazing people and sometimes held community events to bring people together. Brian is a super organized, passionate farmer and the work was never boring. Really a 10/10 I love and miss KVF❤️.

I had an enriching experience at KVF. Exploring the island was such a fun time, but my main highlight was getting to know my co-work-traders on a deep level, on top of the sense of community we fostered and our group meals. Brian was accommodating from the get-go: YOU emphasize the type of work you're drawn to, which I appreciated. Dependable work-traders will find that he's a very reasonable boss. I would have liked to know some things before committing. Transportation on-island was tricky to coordinate: you'll need to plan your outings well as getting to places takes time (the nearest bus stop is a 30-40 minute walk away along the busy main road). I found it unrealistic to try to live off of the farm's produce exclusively; dedicated group trips to Costco were a regular errand. Keep in mind that you will likely have to fork out some extra cash to get staples (e.g., oats, rice, beans) as the weekly stipend you get does not cover it all (food on Kaua'i is $$$). The farm's group dynamics were wholesome, no doubt enabled in large part by the rigorous vetting process you go through before you're offered a position (jumping through the hoops is worthwhile). The communal living situation is enjoyable as well, with a fully decked-out outdoor kitchen to hang out at, plenty of grass to exercise on, and your personal space to come back to. Overall, I would highly recommend working at KVF for the fulfilling work, the memories you'll make, and the meaningful relationships you'll build.

Wonderful people, access to amazing fresh food, and a stunning location. I am so grateful for my 5 months here. We had a great crew, and we all had a blast together! The hours are manageable, and at the end of almost every week the Millers host Shabbat dinner. I have felt so much joy, community, and laughter during those dinners! Brian asked frequently what he could do to make my life at the farm easier or more comfortable. He looks out for each WWOOFer, and wants to help in any way he can. When it comes to the workload, if you've never worked on a farm before, then don't expect the transition to be easy - you work outside, rain or shine, and there is plenty of heavy lifting, digging, shoveling, transporting debris, etc. But if you have the spirit, and you value this lifestyle, you might just love it here. Thank you so much Brian, Lauren, and the girls for all of it! You always have a place in my heart.

What a great time did I have on this farm! Like previous reviews have mentioned, the Millers have strong values about privacy, respect, being communicative and kind. And because they carry these values over to their selection process, it makes it so that this farm can offer you something not many others can: A guarantee to be around kind and respectful people, wether you will visit soon or in a few years. And with strong values at the base of this farm, theres so many other little details that will elevate your experience even more. The variety of tropical fruits, peppers and the daily supply of avocados was amazing. Every Friday evening we’d all get together and have the most amazing potluck dinners. Brian loves surfing and is always happy have some company on his surf sessions or to share his enthousiasm on anything farming related, in particular his passion for unusual plants. Theres a beautiful beach walking distance from the farm. And there are a lot of beautiful walks around the whole island but be aware: bikes are provided on the farm but it’s still a 15 minute bikeride to the busstop. The ‘plus’ is that the bus service go’s all the way around the island every hour and you can take your bike on the bus. If you decided you want to visit Brian and Lauren’s farm, be prepared for breathtaking sunrises and daily rainbows. Be prepared to swim under waterfalls or with sea turtles . And be prepared to shed some tears when your time has come to leave.
