Our location is primarily a Bed and Breakfast. However we follow farm to table practices where possible and therefore have an extensive food producing garden. We have fruit trees, raised beds, and honey bees. It was guests who are WWoofers that recommended we sign up for the site. We hosted our first WWoofers, both were first timers. We think we are nice , easy introduction to what Woofing can be. We have been hosting now for 4 years and still think we are a gentle introduction to wwoofing. We are a historical property on the City and State registers. We also try to be very environmentally friendly. We have energy efficient heating and cooling, hot water services and solar power. From our large formal vegetable garden, divided between vegetables, berries and flowers to our various fruit trees. A good half of our properties outdoor spaces are dedicated to food production. We are also avid Apiarists, more commonly known as beekeepers! (Nathan is on the board of the Olympia Beekeepers Association) As a Woofer you will have access to some very nice accommodations. Depending on the time of year, it may be a very private area of our Inn, with use of what was the Spa's bathroom facilities (currently our spa is not operational). Shorter stays may simply be accommodated in one of our B&B guest rooms. Organic methods: We do not use any pesticides. Firstly because most are evil and secondly as Beekeepers it is bad for the ladies! Certifications: Although we follow organic methodologies, we are not certified. We nearly always need the following: - General seasonal garden cleanup. - Vegetable Garden Maintenance (tidying pathways and beds). Projects for 2027 - We are not showing availability for winter, as it is cold, wet and lacking in things to do. However if someone is keen enough the following project could be worked on. It would be mainly clearly English ivy. A horrible, backbreaking job. - Converting hillside next to Bocce Court to wildflower "meadow". It will involve sheet mulching the hillside and then moving a ton of woodchips to cover it. - Building a greenhouse. This might be a bigger ask. Off site at the Freedom Farm in support of the Olympia Beekeepers to which Nathan is the President. (NOTE: we are not showing availbility at this time, just send a message to see if this is a good fit) Both these jobs will require physical work. Accomplished with help of wwoofers! - Deer and rabbit fence built (thanks Jay) - Bocce court (thanks Brandon) - Working compost in to lawn with tiller - Creation of Cattle Panel Arbors in Vege Garden - Pulling two older beds in the vege garden and converting the space using stock tanks (half done, thanks Bonnie!). Longer term Projects: - Aquaponics set up. We have more equipment now. (We have plans for this, but would value a WWoofer who could also teach us). - Apiary Maintenance (possible honey extraction). Internet access available, with the ability for you to work remote as well. Note we ticked only Omnivore for meals provided because that is what we are. We cater to other dietary restrictions often within the B&B though. Vegetarian is easy. Vegan is a little trickier for longer term, we understand your choice, but it is more expensive for us to provide vegan alternatives within our own meal planning. Please supply an email address as we video chat with every prospective wwoofer.

This was my first time WWOOFing, as well as being away from my home state alone, and it's safe to say Casey and Nathan facilitated a comfortable and welcoming environment. We had family style dinners with their kids in which we all got to converse and get know each other. The meals they fed us were delicious and hearty, and living quarters for WWOOFers were quiet, private and clean! They had great recommendations for site seeing and foodie spots and gave ample amount of time for me to explore the city and venture off when I wanted. The work load was 2-6 hours of mostly yard work including pulling black berry vines, weeding, and clearing any overgrowth in the yards. Definitely will be back here next time i'm in Olympia:)

I had a great first WWOOF experience at Swantown. Casey and Nathan are very generous hosts and I felt like I became a member of the family during my stay here. They had excellent hiking and restaurant recommendations, and allowed plenty of time to relax and recoup as well as explore the city. The work days were easy enough: 4-5 hrs per day 5 days a week. I mostly pulled weeds and cleared out a bunch of overgrowth and dead plants. The toughest part was pulling out all the thorny blackberry vines. The accommodations are great with excellent home cooked meals, a private room, a steam shower, and all the scones you could ever want. The Inn is in a nice residential neighborhood and in walking distance of downtown. I would definitely consider coming back!

Nathan and Casey were great to WWOOF for! They have a beautiful bed and breakfast, really nice accommodations, and great food. The agreement was 5hr/day that you were around, but they were extremely encouraging and accommodating of the days I wanted to see the city, visit family a few hours away, go camping, etc. They also took great care of me when I happened to get sick for a few days. Overall i had a really rejuvenating time and enjoyed getting to tend the garden in such a beautiful area.

This was my first WWOOF stay, and it was nice to get right into work that wasn't complicated or overwhelming. During the duration of my stay, host communicated frequently with me, took into account the hot weather and adjusted work expectations accordingly which was very considerate. I had the opportunity to work alongside him during a volunteer painting assignment, and weeding up the driveway, and along the sidewalk, as well as some berry picking were independent tasks. For other volunteers considering the farm, expect independent work over a lot of one-on-one opportunities. They juggled a lot of prep and volunteer tasks during my stay so we didn't get to have a lot of one-on-one learning experiences, but it was nice to have time to self working with the Earth. I made a few pruning mistakes, but host were kind and forgiving. If you let them know your plans they are nice about providing some useful tips and suggestions. Since I was traveling solo without a vehicle it was very kind of them to offer to drop me off somewhere occasionally, or offer their e-bikes. Navigating from their area around time was easy as they're within easy walking distance to bus stops. I appreciated them embracing my traveling spirit, as I was often exploring town or making little connections with those in the area outside of work hours. I thank them for giving me this intro to WWOOF!

I had a WONDERFUL time here. My favorite part was getting to connect with Nathan, Casey, and their family and friends. They could not be more welcoming. The accomodations were clean, spacious, and had everything I would need. I got to contribute to weeding, pruning, harvesting, and some other projects in their beautiful garden and grounds area. I'd recommend this experience to anyone wanting to get to know Olympia and the PNW and connect with some truly lovely people.

Nathan and his family welcomed me so authentically. I could not have had a better visit! The accommodations were lovely, the food was incredible and the time getting to know them and their community is something I will cherish forever. The work was deeply satisfying and clear. I had time to work independently and some to work alongside the family on garden projects. I also had plenty of flexibility to structure my days as I saw fit to maximize my exploration of the area. Olympia itself had a ton to offer in terms of trails, lakes, interesting shops and local music.
