We are a year-round Certified Naturally Grown farm with many diversities to include 2 acres of vegetables, cow calf herd, laying hens, farrow to finish pastured pork, and pastured chicken.
All of our vegetables are started in the 1200 s.f. greenhouse then transplanted to one of our covered gardens or field gardens. Other plants are up potted for spring plant sales. Our farm is managed organically. We focus more on feeding the soil through true amendments such as alfalfa meal, feather meal, chicken manure, compost, etc…using minimal tillage practices. We do not use synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. We sell our produce through local pickup locations, on farm sales, several weekly farmers markets, food hub, and wholesale auction house.
Our farm host many animals (cow/calf pairs, beef cows, pastured pigs, laying hens, meat chickens, barn cats, and farm/house dogs). We are not accepting pets. Our meats are sold locally and through farmers markets.
Located within a good size homestead and homeschool community, we welcome visits to the farm to re-connect and education people with growing food along with growing the community. We speak English.
Many projects are always in the works along side our weekly tasks of vegetable harvesting, greenhouse sowing, transplanting, weeding, fertilizing and pest control. Animal care including daily cattle move, feeding and watering of pigs and chickens, egg collecting, and fencing for animal moves. Construction of caterpillar tunnels, out buildings, cutting firewood, cattle fence, pasture renovation.
We expect WWOOfers to work with us a minimum of 4 to 5 hours per day, 4-6 days a week. You are welcome to join us on Saturday to experience the farmers market, but not required.
Breakfast and lunch are on your own, with full access to the farm house pantry, freezers, etc. Supper is shared at the farm house, eating with our family and other members of the community.
We have a couple of housing options; a 2 bedroom travel trailer with full kitchen or welcome to camp out in a tent. We take WWOOFers year-round. The number of WWOOFers at a time depends on housing.
Minimum stay of 1 week.
We start our day at 7am during the main season and finish up with things in the gardens around 3pm. Most of the animal care taking is done throughout the day or after garden work is completed. You are welcome to work along side us throughout day buy only expected to work 5hr a day, most like 7am- noonish.
We have made our hobbies and passions our lifestyle. The gardens and animals are what we love to do. Now crazy enough when we get away, we still do outdoor activities. Boating (skiing, tubing, fishing), camping, the pool are things we enjoy doing. I do enjoy cooking and canning to preserve any extra food that comes from the gardens or animal processing.
Really near to us is a big conservation area where you can hike, fish, bike, horseback (you would need your own horse), utv/atv. We also have a great Amish community down the road that offers wonderful things. A river is within a good hike that many will canoe down or use as a swimming hole.
