Boozhoo and hello, we are a small Native-led collective focused on environmental protection, stewardship, intergenerational knowledge sharing, and mutual aid. We reclaimed a former lake resort (and prior to that we believe a logging camp) that we have been restoring for the use of our community and programming. We feed hundreds of rural and tribal families across the area with monthly mutual aid and support of local foods programs via the annual harvest of our large garden, local bison, wild rice, and maple syrup. In the summer through fall, we host selected fellows from all over Turtle Island to skill share, repair relationship with nature, harvest traditional and cultivated foods, and intentionally focus on wellness. At any given time, there's at least 4 people here with upwards of 6-8 fellows in the warmer months. We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and a flock of chickens with a few turkeys.
We will start our organic garden from seed in the late spring, figure out garden layout, and begin planting in June. On the front end, we'll mix in new soil, compost, nutrients, and rototilling. Daily in the grow season there's a few hours of watering, an hour or two of weeding. Later in the season there will be a second planting, before harvest. Toward the end of the summer/early fall, we will spend 3ish weeks harvesting wild rice off the lake in canoes.
We eat dinner together most nights, when there's more folks here we have a set breakfast and lunch also. When there's less folks breakfast and lunch are foraged. There are six cabins, a main lodge with several rooms, and a few yurts that can be set up pretty easily. There is wifi in the main lodge and most cell providers work. No smoking inside any structure but otherwise feel free.
We're lakeside so there's swimming and fishing whenever and we are directly adjacent to a national park so there's boating, hiking, fishing, camping, sightseeing. There's also a nearby bogwalk and a few small towns not too far down the road.
