How WWOOF USA works

We publish a hard copy and online directory that list hundreds of organic farms and gardens across the country in which each host describes their farm, location, crops, and general responsibilities. Any farm, community or garden project in the United States that is willing to host and accommodate volunteers can participate in our program. We encourage all types of hosts that would enjoy working with volunteers to join WWOOF- USA. We print the directory twice a year (received by September 15th, profile will be in the Fall Edition; received by March 15th, profile will be in the Spring Edition). In between printings, new hosts can be accessed online.

Host farms decide on the criteria for accepting volunteers: length of stay, experience required, hours worked per day or week, etc. Volunteers, or 'WWOOFers', receive the directory, look for a compatable host farm, and contact hosts directly to discuss responsibilities and expectations before arrival. If you are an organic farmer, garden program, or farming community, and would like to be listed in the annual WWOOF-USA directory, please send a profile containing the following information:

  • Farm name
  • Contact name
  • Phone/email
  • Location (address and description of land)
  • A brief description of organic activities (crops, projects, goals, etc.)
  • Suggested length of stay for volunteers
  • Months of the year you accept volunteers (i.e. do you take WWOOFers in the winter?)
  • Accommodations (number and type)
  • Non-farming opportunities/ activities (alternative construction/ restoration project, alternative energy, etc.)
  • Expectations of work for WWOOFers
  • Is transportation available?
  • Languages spoken
  • Can you host children or pets?
  • Special diets
  • And any other specifics for your farm
