What is WWOOFÂź?

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) links visitors with organic farmers, promotes an educational and cultural exchange and builds a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.

WWOOF was founded in 1971 and is one of the world’s first educational and cultural exchange programs. Today, WWOOF is in more than 132 countries around the world (and growing).

WWOOF USA is the national organization helping to create local WWOOFing opportunities in the USA and to promote sustainable farming as a lifestyle.

WWOOFing on Left Foot Farm has been a wonderful experience and I am very happy to have begun my WWOOFing/farming experience at LF. I have been able to learn a lot about caring for goats and chickens, farmers market work, and general farm care. The weekly schedule is very organized, clear, and manageable. Jeremy is an overall great and patient host. These aspects along with comfortable accommodations has made WWOOFing at Left Foot a rewarding and expansive experience.

Here’s a polished, smoother version that keeps your voice and heart intact: âž» This sacred little piece of land goes beyond words—pictures truly cannot capture the beauty this place holds. Katya has undertaken the incredible work of reclaiming a food forest nestled in the hills of Puerto Rico, and in the short years she has stewarded this land, she has seemingly moved mountains in restoring it. There was more tropical food available than I could possibly list, all continuously abundant. Being able to wake up, harvest our meal, and cook it right there in the outdoor kitchen was unforgettable. Spending three weeks here with my daughters was exactly what we needed—a chance to reset from our daily life, learn by working the land alongside others, and experience another culture. It was truly a blessing. Katya was beyond gracious in welcoming my children into the farm work and allowing them to contribute in creative ways, like painting the compost bin. These are memories that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. I am so deeply grateful to our hosts for creating such a beautiful, nourishing, and unforgettable experience for our family.

Alexia and the farm family were very welcoming and supportive. While this was our first time WWOOFing, and we were only able to stay for the weekend, we were introduced to a variety of interesting projects happening on the farm, including composting, tending the land, making wood seedlings and wool art, as well as taking care of rabbits, goats, horses, donkeys, and ducks. This was an unforgettable learning experience, and we look forward to more WWOOF trips. Thank you so much for all the knowledge and guidance!

Expectations were largely exceeded at O’hia Hale, we had such a great time!!!! Elizabeth and Owen are truly lovely and wonderful people. They are just so cool and have so many good stories to tell. I always felt safe, comfortable, and supported on the property. They not only made a positive learning and working environment, but also a comfortable living space. Our rooms were clean and ready for us when we arrived and the barn was equipped with literally everything we could have needed; kitchen tools, honey, water filter, jars, mugs, sponges, etc. I also appreciated the culture of always cleaning (ABC) at O’hia Hale because their property was orderly and clean, and just because we lived on a farm didn't mean we had to look like it all the time lol. Even though we were all living on the same property there was a really good balance between work, rest, and also time with the hosts and time alone. We worked about 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, which felt very fair, and then extra hours to use their car which was a total game changer. We were able to explore the island and learn SO much about Hawaiian culture and nature as well. We highly recommend working the extra hours to use their vehicle because there is so much to do within an hours drive of the property. As the first WWOOFers of the year, much of our work involved maintenance, lots of mulching, weeding, transplanting, and digging. All of the tasks were doable, but having two of us on the farm really made the time go

My time at Friendly Mushroom Farm was amazing ! I learned alot about Organic Microgreen Farming, using a seeding tray called the vortex which was impressive! Harvesting many veggies for Farmers market and local stores :) I had access to all the fresh veggies on the farm, the goats became my best friends and we built a ln encloser for them before a snow storm! It was a great experience and would return again :)

My time at this farm was my first time working on a farm and because of it I know it won't be my last. Throughout my ten month long stay I cultivated skills that go beyond agriculture. I was emersed in the every avenue of what it means to run a market garden. From seeding microgreens, to sowing rows and packaging salad, I was always given room to practice, made countless errors and was encouraged to analyze and hone my skills. Sky is very attentive to being a mentor in that we had weekly talks about my goals, how I visualize them and general life guidance that a young man my age very much appreciates. My coworkers as well were people who I will not easily forget as they were great company and all strived to do the best job they could, with a work ethic and knowledge that made my time with them that much more priceless. If you want a serious role and want to get to know some great people, you're reading the right review!

I enjoyed my brief stay at Marty's farm very much. He was a very gracious host: kitchen was always stocked and he made sure to let me know that I could ask if I needed anything, which I appreciated. Although I wasn’t there long enough to sponge up all of his wisdom, Marty is clearly a wealth of knowledge in the industry and he seemed more than willing to share his knowledge and answer any questions that I had. His “farmhand“ at the time was also joy to work for. Good people and good experiences all around. Thank you!

My wife and I spent 3.5 months here and will never forget the time we spent here. If you enjoy animals like goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, dogs, and especially cats you will love it! Nestled in a beautiful valley of oak trees, this hidden gem is a wonderful retreat from city life. Be prepared to get in touch with nature. Though the living can be a bit rugged for some, it is a great skill to learn to live in a semi off-grid way amidst the trees. We also experienced gardening, painting, trail cutting/chain sawing, wood splitting, and building. They welcome self-motivated innovative problem solvers. Roll up your sleeves, bring your courage and your kindness to this place and you will find peace, love, and tranquility here with the people and animals!

Leo and Pat are very kind and caring people, and it showed in every part of our WWOOF experience. It seemed like every decision they made, or action they took, was taken with careful consideration and concern for the land, the animals, the quality of the harvest, and the personal growth of WWOOFers. I truly believe that every animal – chickens, sheep, geese, dogs and cat - were peaceful, content, and healthy. And we humans were comfortable, stimulated, and educated every day. Leo and Pat are experts who explained why they chose to plant items in one area over others, how to prepare soil for spring planting during the winter, introduced the practice of seed starts indoors, and showed how we could have a small greenhouse at home. They also have an extensive collection of books on farming and gardening. They even keep several seed catalogues where we found many items that we could not find near our home. I cannot be more enthusiastic in my recommendation for Leo and Pat and the farm. They are warm and generous people who treated us with patience and respect, taught us things we will use every day, fed us well, and showed us true hospitality. I am deeply grateful for everything they have done for us and admire their beautiful hearts!

My friend and I stayed here for 4 weeks. Miri, Linnea and Hector welcomed us and did a lot to ensure we were comfortable and adjusted well into their home. They are incredibly kind, chill, and generous — sharing meals, offering rides to do grocery shopping and laundry, and even taking us to local beaches, drum circles, markets, etc., during our time off. One time we got to watch the sunrise together and swam with dolphins at Kahena beach – that was definitely a highlight of ours! đŸ„č We also enjoyed plenty of new experiences such as learning how to crack open coconuts and picking fresh produce (such as eggs, mangoes, avocados, noni, guava, starfruit, breadfruit) from the farm to enjoy ✹ We learnt a lot about farming and sustainable living. We had no prior farm experience but they taught us everything from scratch with patience and always put our safety first. We stayed in an open air hut which was minutes away from the main house so you have some privacy. Next to it was a separate hut with the kitchen, as well as an outdoor shower (has hot water and good pressure) and compost toilet. Expect mosquitoes, creepy crawlies, limited reception, dealing with compost – that’s just part of the farm/off-grid life. You’ll be fully immersed in nature and there’s very much a peaceful presence all around đŸŒ± Our everyday looked like: wake up around 7–8am, make coffee and have breakfast, work on the farm for 3–4 hours, take a break and have some lunch, go to the beach or check out some lo...

This place is a like a teaching class for all sorts of basic skills. Make a fire, organise tool, grow plant, take care of the soil, move dead trees. Debbie offers a list of task everymorning with priorities. It is useful to put each and everyone of us skills upfront. Its a community, a way of living that is raw and down to earth. Left leaned, nature oriented. Its a great place to to something basic and meaningful. Thanks Debbie!
