I cannot say enough wonderful things about this magical place. Lauren was so so kind, welcoming, and accommodating and made sure I had everything I needed while I was there. She’s excellent at communicating expectations and upcoming plans for the day/week and made sure I had plenty of time for breaks. Lauren is an encyclopedia of knowledge on all things goats and cheese making and had such valuable insights on the realities of owning and operating a dairy farm. I am forever grateful for Laurens mentorship and will continue learning from her for as long as I can. I was inspired by her everyday. And the GOATS. The goats steal your heart in every possible way. Even the ones that are extra hard to win over (Puku). In just two weeks I had learned so much about each of their unique and complex personalities that left me with a new appreciation for animals and a new perspective on what it really takes to work with animals in an ethical way. Lauren takes the time to make sure each goat feels loved and appreciated and is well taken care of. All of these amazing takeaways for me were only made possible because of how much I was willing to submit myself to the experience. There are long days, and early mornings, and stinky times, but the amount of knowledge and perspective I gained from this experience was truly priceless. I cant wait to come back! ❤️❤️❤️

Missy and Megan are the two most welcoming and wisest people I have ever met. From day one they took me in and treated me as kin. I was taught many a deep lesson about life far beyond just farming, including Missy's own personal philosophy of all things are relationships and deep nourishment. She is larger than her profile in real life, she lives her "mindful care" and "nourishment" philosophy every day. Every meal and conversation was a nourishment in my whole being, a practice in her hearthcraft. During my stay, I participated in a farmer's gathering where I made new connections, and I gained practical skills in garlic planting, canning, tending to the care of Missy's menagerie of animals, baking pies, and winterizing the farm. I arrived with a head full of ideas and left with a heart full of love and gratitude. I would absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend Missy to anyone who shares her values of "mindful care".

WWOOFing at Arroyo Runs Through It with Nina was an amazing experience. I learned a ton about dairy sheep, Hügelkultur, soap making, tending to rabbits, chickens, and ducks, building with cob, carpentry, and a host of other things. Most importantly, Nina was incredibly hospitable and I hope we remain good friends for a long time. If you're interested in visiting a dairy sheep farm in the piñon-juniper forest of the Southwest, this would be time well spent.

I could not be more grateful for my time on Lavender Thyme Farm. Andrea and Jeff are the kindest, most welcoming people and they truly make you feel like a part of their family. They have the most beautiful property and doing work in Andrea's garden was the highlight of my summer! Most often I was watering, weeding, harvesting, and processing a variety of different plants, and when the rain started to come we would help Andrea with her crafts while drinking tea! So lovely. Andrea also cooked dinner for anyone who wanted it with veggies from the garden and we would all eat together family style, and as a vegan Andrea was extremely accommodating, often buying me fun vegan treats she thought I might like from the store :) Andrea and Jeff really do make you feel welcome and at home, and are so much fun to hang out with! From agate hunting with Jeff at the beach to late night cribbage games, there is no end to a good time on their farm. And they have adorable animals to cuddle with as an added bonus. If you are looking to WWOOF in Humboldt, this is the spot!!!! Seriously could not recommend them more, you'll not only gain amazing experiences on their farm, but forever family as well :)

It's a healthy balance between individual tasks/team work. Deborah is extremely accommodating and helpful. I have worked at a lot of farms over the years. I can confidently say the bee hives at this location are well maintained and cared for. I was really happy to see that! I will definitely be returning for a visit in the future.

I cannot say enough good things about Karen and AuxArc Botanicals. I absolutely loved my time there! Karen is an incredibly gracious host, very knowledgeable and generous with sharing her experiences and wisdom, and I can say that I left with new knowledge and insight that I will draw from years to come. I arrived just after lavender season had ended, so there weren't too many opportunities to harvest and work with the plants, but I was able to assist Karen with selling lavender products at the farmers market, and assisting with bottling lavender-infused oil. Other tasks included helping out with food preservation and weeding the greenhouse. The accommodations are comfortable and I enjoyed having my own space as well as sharing meals with Karen, who's an excellent cook. Karen's company is an absolute delight, and she was kind enough to introduce my to her friends and family and made me feel so welcome. On my days off I explored the Buffalo National River, which is a beautiful area right in the heart of the Ozarks.

Mel is one of the hardest workers I've ever met. Her knowledge and passion for farming and community connection was truly inspiring. Mel's work ethic and dedication to preserving the land challenged me in the best way possible. Volunteering with Gardenripe exceeded my expectations and I would encourage anyone who wants a fulfilling experience to visit

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Kate's farm. Kate is a younger farmer, just beginning her journey of growing her space and daily routine. She is very generous and is creating opportunities for new WWOOFers while taking on the tradition of organic farming for the next generation. This farm is an ideal space for WWOOFers who have accumulated some skills and are looking for the opportunity to see how to grow and maintain a new operation from the ground up. As there is not yet a set schedule, but rather a list of tasks to help build up the farm, this is a great location for folks who are good at working independently and are very self motivated. There are lots of chances to learn new skills as well, any where from tiling to winterizing garden beds, working on puppy training to clearing pastures. There are WWOOFers coming and going so you are likely to have company, and Kate is a social host who is good at giving you space and time to yourself while also offering to hang out, play games, or see local attractions. There was always good organic food and cooking and cleaning up after meals is shared amongst all. There are currently chickens, goats, cats, and a puppy--so you will definitely have the opportunity to be a part of animal care, feeding, mucking, etc. The nearest town is about a half hour walk and public transportation is sparse, but Kate is very conscious of this and is very helpful getting you to and from nearby areas should you like to explore. Enjoy! Thanks Kate!

My experience at Hillside Garden was wonderful. Bev and Steve are remarkably generous, caring, and attentive hosts. Bev prepared delicious meals and always made sure everything fit my dietary needs. I visited during Thanksgiving week, and they were kind enough to offer a day off for the holiday. Steve took me on a beautiful hike along the canyon and creek, and later we enjoyed a memorable Thanksgiving dinner with a family friend. On the day I left, Bev packed food for my trip, and when I missed my bus, Steve waited with me for an entire hour until the next one arrived. The farm itself is stunning, lush, diverse, and full of quiet surprises. If you’re lucky, you might catch sight of deer moving around or hawks circling overhead. Overall, my stay was a truly warm and restorative experience, and I’m grateful for the kindness and hospitality I received.

I stayed with Virginia for a very short period, figuring out how to balance my life, and I'd absolutely recommend her as a host! What are her golden stars, you ask, 1. She has a schedule for wwoofers (make sure your host prioritizes this and follows through) 2. She sits down and plans activities for the week; there's a clear instruction of daily & weekly activities 3. Prioritizes a communal wwoofing experience where each member and she take a turn cooking throughout the week! She's generous and welcomes spontaneity on weekends with sharing food or eating a meal together, especially if you help cook or wash the dishes, which she mentions in her description! 4. Friday cleanup in common areas like the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. Adds a homey feeling! During my winter stay, I stacked wood, fed chickens, weeded the garden, removed landscape fabric, folded fence lines, deconstructed worn pallets, and raked leaves by the electric fence wiring. Another wwoofer who was there at the same time, stayed longer, and has done fermentation projects too!

What a wonderful place to get to spend time, and awesome people to spend it with. I couldn't think of anything I would suggest to Nina and Dylan that they could improve. They are fun, kind, and great communicators. I got to learn about their sheep, rabbits, and building with cob. I also had plenty of time to explore the mountains behind their house and take a couple little trips to Bandelier and Carlsbad caverns. I'm going to miss my time at Arroyo Runs Through It. Thanks guys!
