The mission of our farm operation is to provide an opportunity for adults and children to connect with nature and begin to develop an ethic and base of knowledge to live more sustainably. Currently we only grow for our own needs. "Farm"" is located in a historic rural community near Shreveport Louisiana. (40 minutes) Total acreage is 200, consisting mostly of woodlands and hay meadows. We have recently received designation as a Louisiana State Natural Area.  Only a few acres are used for vegetable garden and a few animals (chickens, horses) and housing.  We have contacts with community gardens in Shreveport. We hope to learn from our guests as well as share our knowledge. Sometimes in June we host a summer camp for disadvantaged children from Shreveport, and could use up to 4 volunteers. Farm work  involves gardening and animal care as well as mowing and nature trail maintenance. Also general home maintenance tasks. We expect 4-5 hours of work per day, about 5 days per week, plus just feeding on weekends. Housing provided in a screened bunkhouse. Nice RV site with hookups provided (pets allowed here if confined to RV site) No public transportation is available, but rides can be arranged. Shreveport has two colleges, theaters, museums, casinos and shopping. Meals can be shared with host family or prepared by volunteer in bunkhouse. Prefer English speaker, but we speak some Spanish and French and would like to learn Italian. We may require references, background check and drug screen. NONSMOKERS only.  Length of stay is flexible from one week to one month. We operate a small bed and breakfast/family camp and could use helpers with that endeavor. Volunteers spend free time canoeing, fishing, hiking, riding and swimming in the pond. Wifi available at main house and in bunkhouse. No recreational drugs or SMOKING on farm. Volunteers should have health and accident insurance. Waiver of liability will be required. We prefer wwoofers with some knowledge of farming, but will accept first timers. Children and dogs cannot be accepted for safety reasons. Organic methods: I mostly use compost for soil improvement but occasional use manufactured products. Rarely use insecticide but fire ants near residential areas don’t respond to anything I try. Use mulch and hand weed control Certifications: Have never made application to be certified Current projects: Fall garden Trail maintenance Chicken start up Internet access available

From the moment I pulled into the driveway, until the day I departed, I was family. Mary and Milt are the best hosts, and enjoy the myriad of woofer’s who come to help and learn. I myself was the “ 87th “ Woofer. Both are world travelers, love music,( Milt hosts a Jam session weekly on Wednesdays and also does a great rendition of Kris Kristofferson, “ Sunday Morning Comin’ Down. They also enjoy Mexican food, got a great joint just down the road. Mary is an accomplished sailer and has lived on a boat on and off, most of her adult life. Mary’s spirit animal is the Pelican. Ask her anything about Keatchie, she is well versed. They both enjoy the boat that they now have, although they would rather be on it full-time. Museums, Art, cultural happenings, and the local cuisine, crawfish and BBQ, was intriguing. The farm is 200 acres, with many hiking trail’s, which are marked. Mary has had many inter city kids come for camp,. They stayed in a big bunkhouse, which now hosts woofers. There is a lake, with canoe’s and kayaks, and plenty of fish. I spent my time with the three horses, riding and teaching ground manners to the filly. I also planted vegetables in Mary’s Garden and tended them. I am so very grateful for their friendship, kindness, and the sunshine they give. All the best… until we meet again…many thanks…Carpe Diem

My time here was fabulous, Mary and Milt are great people, I really appreciate the care and attentions, they represent the true grassroots spirit of WWOOF, the fabulous cultural exchange, the genuine pleasure they had in showing the region and land with its interesting history, from Shreveport to Keachi passing through Kickapoo everything was beautiful, it was for me an unparalleled opportunity to be in the heart of Louisiana. I also loved having walks by the afternoons by the trails, and obviously their pets!

Staying with Mary and Milt in their beautiful property in Louisiana was such an amazing experience, although our stay was way too short. This lovely couple gave us a glimpse of American culture on so many levels : playing country songs for us on the guitar, experiencing frozen yogurt for lunch, visiting the local museum, talking about politics and history, hiking or driving through beautiful Louisiana, meeting their interesting friends. We were able to help out with clearing trails, gardening, cleaning roofs and restoring the fire pit. Accommodation was great, food delicious, the property is huge and breathtaking, especially in the morning and at dawn. Mary and Milt are very sweet hosts, full of energy and charm, always up for doing things and willing to share their experience and knowledge. Their 2 dogs , many cats, 2 horses and the little poney are always looking for you to pet them and are absolutely adorable. We had the best time and highly recommend a stay in the lovely town of Keachie. We will definitely come back . All the best to our new American friends !

I had a fantastic time staying with Mary and Milt at Keachi Acres! I arrived to 110 degree days where we would get up early and only work til 11:30am, we couldn’t work much later than that because of the heat. Milt and I played our guitars together and sang old country songs, Mary took me on a tour around Keachi and we went and did a little bit of gardening at a friend of hers’ house which was very historical and beautiful. I also got a tour of Keachi Acres which has a lot of different terrain, some pine forest, some open spaces. We swam in the pond one day which was nice! The guest house has its own privacy, so suitable for someone who likes to have alone time. I always felt very safe at Keachi Acres and Mary and Milt included me in their social activities too, I met many of their friends. We shared many laughs and watched movies, and drank margaritas on the porch.

M&M told me I was their 81st WWOOFer, and, after spending 2 weeks with them this spring, I can’t imagine why they don’t have precisely 81 stellar reviews. My main jobs were weeding, planting, and harvesting in a small but well-kept and productive garden; clearing a fence line with loppers and chainsaw; installing tarp curtains all around the bunkhouse; and sweeping 3 years of pine needles off the bighouse roof. WWOOFers stay in a screened bunkhouse—now with clear plastic tarp curtains to keep out the cold and the pollen! Includes toilet, hot shower, coffee maker, and more. I loved my stay in the bunkhouse, especially during cool, breezy nights and thunderstorms. Food wise, I enjoyed a wide variety of wonderful meals with M&M. One splendid evening, for instance, Milt grilled fish out the pond and Mary baked potatoes and prepared a lovely salad using produce from the garden. Does it get any better than that? This is an incredibly idyllic place. The pond in particular is a national treasure, and beyond the lush hayfields lies deep, bountiful woodland, homemade trails running through the pine & oak, little cricks & lots of hist’ry. M&M are not just gracious, hospitable hosts, they are remarkable humans rich in stories, good humor, and kindness. They readily welcomed me into their community in so many ways, and I feel so fortunate to have been No. 81. If you’re lucky enough to nab your own experience here, I don’t doubt you will feel blessed as well.

Keachi Acres. What a place. While I was only able to stay here a few nights, Mary and milts hospitality had me feeling like I’d been there a few months. Jobs included clearing brush for trails, pruning a pear tree, and petting Maggie, among other things. Highlights include watching 2 wood ducks land on the pond behind the house and nightly dinners at the house. 10/10 would recommend
