It was the summer of 1994 when I was introduced to farming on an Illinois CSA farm. In the years since then my love of farming and working with others hasn't dwindled. I have traveled and worked with banana farmers in Australia, orchardists in New Zealand and mixed vegetable growers US before finding this place here in south central Kentucky. Since 1998 we have called this farm home. We have hosted WWOOFers since 2001! We are currently a mother-daughter farm management team, with an older and younger son on the sidelines ALSO pitching in most days. We offer anyone that comes to our farm the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of  life on our 150-acre family farm. We rely heavily on non-mechanized ""human-powered"" gardening on our 2 acre mixed vegetable/herb/cut flower operation. Entering our 25th year of a successful CSA program, we make weekly trips to Nashville, TN to deliver 50 baskets of vegetables to our shareholders. We practice biodynamic farming and are always working to further enhance our farm's self sustainability. A herd of Jacob's sheep, and a plethora of poultry provide our farm with fertility and offer animal husbandry opportunities for our apprentices.   After 20+ years of hosting, we still enjoy mentoring people interested in self sufficiency, sustainable agriculture, biodynamic farming practices, fiber farming, community building, on farm education, homesteading, home schooling, and all aspects of a diverse small, first generation, family farm. We welcome visitors to be involved in all activities including our shiitake mushroom operation, vegetable, herb, and flower seeding, planting, cultivating, and harvesting, and working with our livestock. We especially enjoy assistants in our busiest summer months while in addition to managing the vegetable operation, we are using dye plants raised here to turn our farm fiber into glorious color! With an ongoing relationship with the region's Waldorf schools, our farm team has the possibility to work with school groups as well as short term guests throughout the season. With three high tunnels, one heated greenhouse and a root cellar, we are focusing more and more on year round production and delivery. Over the past years we have been working more and more with raising dye plants and using them to add value to our farm's wool products. Now, as we enter 2024, we can offer a solid introduction to plant dyeing and the opportunity to focus on a huge array of local fiber projects to folks interested. Anyone looking for a solid introduction to certified organic CSA farming, while enjoying plenty of time spent learning critical homesteading skills and farm crafting, this might just be the place for you. Join us, the year ahead is looking more exciting than ever!           We can host up to 4 guests at a time with on farm comfortable accommodation. WWOOFers will have a private room in one of our two cabins depending on who is on the farm. We have an awesome shared kitchen and hang out space. WWOOFers always have access to farm foods, fresh bread from a local bakery, and pantry staples. We share one meal per day and the others are on your own in shared kitchen space. We love to share food and cooking and are flexible with dietary needs. Please contact by phone or email to discuss the opportunities here in the coming season.  we can accommodate folks with or without their own vehicle.   Organic methods: following USDA NOP standards Certifications: USDA certified organic Current projects: We are always hoping to diversify our WWOOFers experience. While the days are most often spent in the 1 acre market garden, we also work with plant dyes, local fiber processing, hosting school groups and community engagement throughout the season. I could not have asked for a better farm or family with which share my first wwoofing experience. Robin, Madeline, and William were very welcoming and kind. I learned a great deal about gardening and had an absolute blast! I will definitely be back!

We spent three days here. Those three days it rained, but even with the poor weather Robin was able to accommodate a very educational experience. We learned a lot of things from transplanting to preparing sheep wool for cleaning. Robin and her family are such knowledgeable, kind and hospitable hosts. They generously shares their harvest with us and always made sure we had enough to eat. The accomodations created a close to nature experience, so if you enjoy camping/ glamping this is a great place to experience that and learning about farm life. We would totally recommend anyone to come WWOOF here! Thanks Robin!

We had a wonderful experience at Hill and Hollow Farm with Robin, Madeline, and William! They are a hardworking family that made us feel right at home, and freely shared their extensive knowledge about organic vegetable farming and fiber dyeing. Over the week we were there, we were able to experience garden maintenance, bed prep and planting, seedling transplantation, harvesting, and even a day at the market where they deliver to their CSA customers. A special treat was to make indigo dye and actually dye some skeins of their homegrown wool yarn! We feasted on veggies in the rustic, private accommodations on the property and had each afternoon to ourselves after working 5 hours each morning. We will be back!!! Thank you so much!

We had a wonderful stay with Hill and Hollow for our second experience WWOOFing as a family (9 yr and 5 yr children)! Robin (and Madeline & William) was an amazing host leading up to our stay, arrival, during and post departure. The farm itself is in a rural area surrounded by creeks and endless natural entertainment for post work hours. Robin is an excellent communicator and we always had a clear understanding about expectations and instructions. She (and her children) is a wealth of knowledge - we could have listened to her all day and night and still not be able to absorb it all. The farm has an acre exposed garden and multiple greenhouses - we did a little bit of everything. It is truly amazing what these gals accomplish as a predominately two person team. We shared some meals after working but always had clear communication so we could adjust. We stayed in a cabin down from the main farm - two of us shared the bed and two slept on cots that we brought. There was plenty of room. If working in the warm months, bring an extra fan if you, but it was a comfortable space for sure. We are beyond grateful for the opportunity to have worked and learned alongside Robin and her family. Hill and Hollow is a special place to experience and would highly recommend a visit.

I had a wonderful stay with Hill and Hollow! Robin, Madeline, and William were all such great hosts from the first moment I arrived. I stayed for three weeks and I really enjoyed working and spending time with them. The farm itself is in a lovely rural area surrounded by the forest and a few creeks that are great for walking in. The work schedule and division of labor were very reasonable and the work was never boring. We often shared meals after working made with fresh ingredients from the farm. It was the best farm I could have been to as a first time wwoofer!

I spent nearly three days here. Those three days held a great balance of conversation, farm tasks (like assisting in sheep shearing, harvesting, transplanting, planting potatoes), free time to soak in the natural beauty and read, and delicious farm-fresh salads (in my book there's not much food better than that). I left feeling more inspired, refreshed from the beauty of the farm setting, and with a desire to return. Robin and her family are such kind, fun, knowledgable, hospitable hosts. I would totally recommend anyone to come WWOOF at Hill and Hollow!!
