+20 year-old 16 acre community in a desert oasis

We are a +20 year-old 16 acre community--not a farm--located in a narrow valley surrounded by 3 mountain ranges. We use only organic methods of food production .. A canopy of thousands of fruit, nut and native trees feed and shelter us; several gardens provide us with more food. We compost and have several 2 chicken coups that provide us with eggs. All this bio-mass also creates a sanctuary for a large bird population as well as for many native animals. Caring for this 16-acre desert oasis is a lot of work. We maintain thousands of feet of irrigation lines, prune trees, plant gardens, and build structures along with new composting toilets, solar ovens, solar dehydrators, solar water distillers, etc. We generally think our work is fun, but there are other more traditionally fun things to do here also, such as enjoying the wonderful sauna and fire pit, swimming in the pool, hiking in the desert and mountains, and finding secluded places to meditate and relax.. We require a minimum one-month stay. We are filling positions to help with building projects, cleaning, painting, basic woodworking, lots of organizing. The property needs a lot of TLC. Workers are required to work 40 hours a week. The work schedule can be flexible once orientation is over.Our accommodations are converted buses, RVs and lots of camping space. Pets are okay only if they are approved in advance and are well behaved--no aggression, constant barking or chasing of our chickens and wildlife allowed.We are 20 miles away from Globe, AZ. Having your own transportation will give you the most options but not a requirement. We are not equipped to treat or handle serious mental conditions or addiction issues, though we have compassion for those struggling. Alcohol/ Drug Abuse will not be tolerated. We are looking for honest hard workers, that are will to help bring this place back to functioning order. Certifications: Everything here has been planted and maintained using only organic methods. This was a great place to visit--Don and the crew I met while here were so welcoming and helpful. I went to work on a film project and they were all willing to let me shoot video and interview them. The abundance of fruit and vegetation in this arid zone is a pleasant surprise as well! Hope I can return sometime.

Last late summer, fall I visited Windpsirit. I found the people very agreeable and lovely. I got some great hands on experience in gardening and I learned a ton about living communally. Don and Deena are amazingly kind, warm and very knowledgeable. And the land is absolutely beautiful and wonderfully quiet. I plan on going back sometime when it's warmer. :) Love you guys!!

Last winter I left from Italy for visiting the Usa; my last stop was in Windspirit Community, where I spent almost one month. It was a really amazing experience, I had my caravan, I enjoyed the colors and the peace of the desert, the morning meditation and the lovely company of the residents. During my staying here, we worked for many events (a wedding and a retreat), so we made the place available to host many people, we prepared meals and we took care of the guests, and in our free time we enjoyed part of the retreats! If you are an indipendent person, if you like the company but you also feel good alone, if you like a wild life style, here is the best place for you! I hope to go back to meet again my new friends, soon!

This Place is awesome!!! The area is huge, beautiful and full of birds, but also a few spiders, snakes, tons of lizards and rabbits and hundreds of bats that you can watch at dusk drinking from the pool :) It is like a wonderful Oasis in the Desert surrounded by tons of stuff to see, like hills to climb for an amazing view, ancient indian pottery shards and almost endless different hiking possibilities. The work is extremely varied and not hard at all. The Food is great, lots of fresh and refreshing fruits and veggies. It is impossible to describe how relaxing it is to float on an air mattress on the pool and enjoying the look of the desert, knowing there is no cellphone, job or university that could bother you out here. No matter if you are searching for a break from everyday stress, if you want to find yourself, medidate, get to know very interesting people, want to know how it feels to live in a community or just want to have a great time - this is the place to be!!

Spent 29 days here last spring, and it was the most peaceful 29 days of the whole year. This is a great place to get away from all the bullshit of city life. They got comfortable, clean places to sleep, and plenty of good food. Don's a great guy, really laid back easy to get along with. Best time to visit is in the spring and fall when they do yoga retreats.
