A 40+ acre rugged ranch property surrounded by 100's more of State and Federally protected land located in the heart of The Santa Monica Mountain Range- a unique Mediterranean ecosystem of which there are only 6 in the world. We are a senior Christian couple with 3 horses, 16 chickens,1 cat & 1 Bouvier de Flandres herding dog- most all of which are rescues. Our ranch property as well as 45% of the Santa Monica Mountain range sustained significant damage and destruction in the Nov. 9, 2018 Woolsey Wildfire incident. 84% of the National Parks lands were burned as well as all of our 40 acres. Miraculously, despite massive structure losses by rural neighbors, our home survived. (1689 structures were destroyed in the fire and 100K acres blackened). We did lose our garden, most of the landscaping, barn/studio, chicken coop (& chickens) and 7 trailers (3 vintage Airstreams). We are in the recovery process, which will take years but we are now welcoming Wwoofers to come and assist in the rebuilding. Current building project is a 24' x 32' Post & Beam Pavilion structure which will function as a carport & event facility. Eventually we will rebuild the barn that was destroyed. Our chicken coop also requires relocation as it's displacing gardening space. The garden construction requires a time investment which we have not been able to achieve at this time due to all the other duties of restoring and maintaining the property which was severely distressed when we purchased it 16 years ago. WWOOFers would partner in the design, construction and operation of an organic garden plus learn animal & bee husbandry. Wwoofers will share meals with Hosts, including breakfast, lunch and dinner. Menu is generally omnivore. Breakfast often includes our own organic raised chicken eggs. Wwoofers are also able to prepare their own meals with Host supplied groceries - particularly if a vegan diet is preferred. Meals are prepared in Host’s home and often eaten outdoors with social interaction. Wine or beer are occasionally served (if of legal age). Due to the remote nature and distance from public transportation a vehicle or bicycle is a definite asset. Endless hiking on-site, with surfing, beach recreation all within 6 miles. We are a 45 min. drive to most places of interest in the Los Angeles area and 1 hr. from LAX airport. Flexible WWOOFer stays of 2 days to 2 weeks, occasionally longer for singles (our preference). Because of the small and busy nature of our operation we ask that you PLEASE DO NOT BE OFFENDED IF WE DO NOT REPLY to your Wwoofing request. Our time is very limited and thus we only select Wwoofers periodically.

Murray and Kay were incredible hosts! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. Murray facilitated a great day that provided a perfect balance of yard work, exploring their incredible property, delicious food, and fellowshipping. If you have the opportunity to work for them, definitely do it!!

Fate led me to Murray and Kay’s beautiful home in Malibu, and I’m so grateful it did! From the very first moment, they were incredibly welcoming. Working with their son Brandon was a lot of fun, and I learned so much during my two-week stay. It was such a blessing to share my love for Jesus with them, and being here brought me even closer to Him. I already miss Ziggy the dog—we really formed a bond. I’m so happy to have made new friends and to know I have a place to return to someday. Thank you for everything, truly!❤

Louis was AMAZING ! We really enjoyed his time with us and he really moved the ball forward on some projects. One day he wouldn’t even come in from the rain, determined to complete the task!! Welcome him if you can as he’s a gem!

My first WWOOFing experience and it was lovely! Murray and Kay were so welcoming to me in my last-minute request for a one-day work stay. I enjoyed getting to hear their story a bit and learning about growing things and living in a fire-prone area and the recovery from a destructive one four years back.

It was a privilege to be a Wwoofer for Kay and Murray this last September. I was given the perfect introduction as I was greeted by Royal, indeed a majestic horse, who grazed and roamed during the day-living the life of Riley, to be with such a family! An atypical greeting here in the suburbs of Chicago, to be sure- which I won't ever forget. In the midst of devastation sustained by the fires of last November, it was an honor to plant a variety of fruit and vegetable trees amidst the ashy burm. Murray taught me how to plant in his area, to avert varmints and so forth. We worked together along his newly installed fence, which was replaced by last years fires. He was a plethora of knowledge as we worked along the hillside, where he had installed land barriers, in the likelihood of landslides from the new ash. Soulful, honest, conversations among Fresh smoothies, wonderful food, and awesome coffee are among many other wonderful things you can expect when you are with Kay and Murray. Their drive and compassion and desire to move forward despite the devastation, is a force you will want to experience.

I Loved wwoofing at cleft of the rock ranch, it was a fantastic experience and i'd recommend staying here to anyone. Murray was a great host, he's super friendly and accommodating. I worked on their garden in the mornings and would have the afternoon to myself, which id usually spend relaxing by the pool reading or going for runs in the hills. Murray even allowed me to use a spare surf board to get some surf in on zuma beach and drove me to the paramount studios for a little tour. Overall I couldn't be happier with my first wwoofing experience and would love to visit cleft of the rock ranch again.
