We run an organic market farm that strives to use biological and regenerative farming practices to produce, restore and protect both wild and cultivated systems. The land consists of a mix of production fields, forests, meadows and a lake. We cultivate five acres of the 120 acre farm and sell through a summer and winter market, CSA, restaurants a farm stand. Our main income stream is the vegetable production. Focused on biodiversity, we cultivate more than 40 types of crops and over 100 varieties. The crop plan mostly includes seasonal vegetables and herbs with some perennial fruits and mushrooms. Additionally, we host monthly farm tours and have a small plant nursery with native and useful plants. The farm is also home to a small free-range flock of chicken and two goats, Chaco and Tank. There are numerous hiking trails leading all around the property and the beautiful five acre lake offers opportunities for fishing, kayaking and peaceful relaxation. We prefer stays of at least 2 weeks and ideally for a month or more. Expectations are a basic farm/garden knowledge, a good attitude and a desire to learn. We require 6 hours of work per day for a total of 30 hours per week. Weekends are work free but we do encourage participation at the Saturday farmer's market from May-October. Activities are varied and diverse, however, centered around vegetable production.  This includes everything from starting seeds and transplanting to harvesting and packing orders. You could find yourself eradicating invasive plants in the morning and then making kimchi in the afternoon! Current side projects include starting a no-till plot and expanding the plant nursery. Woofers are also included in continuing education and recreational pursuits of farm employees, such as virtual and in person classes, native plant meetings, environmental advocacy, foraging, mycology, etc. Accommodations are 3 private bedrooms and 1 bathroom in the downstairs area of JV's (Julia) 2800 ft2 log cabin. There is a private entrance contiguous to an outdoor patio. Three meals a day are provided with woofers having kitchen access to cook in their free time. When our start time is 8AM breakfast is typically steel cut oats, fruit, eggs etc but if we start earlier(Summer) you are on your own. Lunch is leftovers or make your own sandwiches etc. We eat dinner communally and it's usually a hot farm fresh meal. While help isn't required for meal prep we do expect help cleaning up after meals. Meals include farm produce and are centered around whole foods. We can accommodate vegan and gluten free diets. Wi-fi and laundry facilities are also available. You do not need your own linens-either bed sheets or bath towels. Co-owner and manager Chris lives next door in a log cabin. South Carolina's beautiful Upstate and mountains are an easy drive and offer wonderful opportunities for outdoor recreation in national forests and state parks. This includes hiking, mountain biking, climbing and nature study. Greenville, one of South Carolina's largest cities, is 30 minutes  and world famous Asheville, NC is a little further. The cities have many entertainment options including restaurants, bars and live music. Ware Shoals is the closest town and is a classic southern textile town situated on the scenic Saluda river. If not driving, woofers are encouraged to travel to Greenville, SC where we can arrange for airport, train and bus pickups. We welcome woofers who love nature and regenerative living to consider a stay on our farm!

Great experience at this farm. Chris is super knowledgeable - great person to learn from (Joe too!)... and love their orientation to farming, the environment, etc. Enjoyed the work - a whole bunch of harvesting/preparing veggies for market, as well as business customers (e.g., stores, restaurants)... And delightful finishing days with JV's delicious home-cooked meals - with plenty of leftovers. Beautiful property - comfortable accommodation - nice location.

As a 1st time WWOOFer, I truly appreciated the open and welcoming exchange at this farm. JV is a warm ray of light with a big heart and a nurturing disposition (and amazing cook!). Chris is passionate about preservation and native species to the Piedmont region. The farm manager, Joe, is kind and takes time to show you how to properly do the task(s) at hand. I loved that there were other WWOOFers there to meet and get to know their backgrounds and their future dreams. The farm animals are well loved and provide the same in return. The farm and surrounding property is beautiful. There are several cleared trails that you can meander on, one leading to a small lake with a dock. Beautiful night skies. You do have to be mindful during hunting season to avoid being on the trails during the corpuscular hours (dawn/dusk). It is approx 30-45 minutes to the nearest "bigger" town offerings. Tasks while there: harvesting a wide variety of veg, measuring and prepping veg for local sale or farmer's markets, weeding, planting, invasive removal, creating new planting beds, organizing pots, prepping garlic for planting, plastic mulch removal. Work is 30 hours/week, M-F. I chose to leave the farm early, as I did not feel that I was gaining the education portion I hoped for but I did learn what it was like to work on a production farm. I was the 3rd WWOOFer to leave early in a 2 week span, for various reasons.

Highly recommend! Comfortable living space, kind and generous people, Chris seemed very knowledgeable and willing to teach everyone, JV was sweet and cooked exceptional food, and the other WWOOfers seemed very happy. Unfortunately I had to leave after 1 day volunteering due to something in my personal life but I wish I could have stayed longer!

Absolutely amazed by my experience with this farm! Though my stay was short, I immediately felt so welcomed by Chris, JV, Joe, and the other WWoofers present. I learned so much about the processes of organic farming, and about the wildlife of the area during my stay. I hope one day I can go back and stay longer. Truly cannot recommend BioWay enough - excellent food and accommodations, such kind staff, amazing variety and quality of crops, and some super cute pets to tie it all together! Thank you so much BioWay!

A wonderful first WWOOFing experience! Chris, JV and Joe made me feel right at home from the beginning of my month-long stay. Helped with a variety of harvesting, planting and maintenance activities around the farm. The farm itself is on beautiful land, with plenty of fun animals around (chickens, goats, but especially the two dogs Molly and Rudy!) Chris is very knowledgeable about the land, ecosystem, and virtually anything to do with farming, you'll learn a lot. And JV's food is delicious :)

This was my first experience with WWOOFing, and I’ll cherish the great memories I made. Chris and his team offered helpful guidance, even for a beginner like me. I felt very welcome during my stay — the atmosphere was warm, and the meals were excellent. I highly recommend this farm.
