We are a 480 acre environmental education center nestled in unique canyons of the Sangre de Cristo Range and the beautiful Wahatoya Mountains, at an elevation of 8,000 feet. We are in a forest environment an hour away from any town. Trinidad is the local town for supplies. Earth Mountain's 40 acre base camp offers a wealth of learning opportunities, to local and national schools and organizations. We welcome you to come and be a part of the Earth Mountain family co- creating social renewal, healing the land, and ourselves! We educate on the farm and in our local communities and outreach to create sustainable community development projects such as Community gardens/farms, co-ops, and school gardens. We are also a CSA(Community Supported Agriculture) and an Outdoor School which hosts a Permaculture Design Certification Course, and a variety of workshops. We have been a WWOOF host farm for over 10 years. We prefer full season volunteers but are open to hosting with a 2 month minimum stay. Our season runs from March- November. We ask for 5 to 6 hours a day with 2 days off a week. All chores are shared. Most meals are communally prepared in a pleasant outdoor kitchen. Special diets may need to supplement. Earth Mountain has humble off-grid solar electricity, limited phone reception and wifi ability, must provide your own hotspot through a phone service. Basecamp has a summer solar shower, from May to October. Otherwise it's the old fashion way of heating water on your woodstove. Accomodations vary from, tipis, tent camping, and small cabins. You own transportation is strongly encouraged. We are looking for volunteers who share the passion for simple living, education, youth and community. We raise chickens, have milk goats, and a horse. We grow, raise, and hunt most of our food and wild craft medicine. We are currently 1 family with 2 boys, dedicated to Earth Mountain's work and cottage industry. We seek to build long-term community, and love short term exchange. There is a good network of farmers, and extended community in the area. We are currently seeking a few long-term residents (at least a full season- March - Nov.)who are knowledgeable in the areas of : organic farming and building maintenance, environmental education and non-profit management. Especially interested in families, it is a wonderful environment for children. Room and Board. Alcohol-free farm. Certifications: Chemical free. Internet access available

This farm was an amazing experience, and I’m so grateful for my 3 month stay! Traveling from Texas, the mountain-life was a much different climate, and lifestyle- and I loved every moment in this beautiful space. Joni and Willow are lovely hosts, and and educators. Joni shares her knowledge, and skills eagerly- with passion, and commitment to the farm, and education. I learned everything from tending to chickens and all the farm animals, milking goats, chopping wood, using chainsaw, butchering and processing chicken, and deer, building techniques, making breads, jams, healing tinctures, and salves. You really learn how to live off the land, on the mountain, and enjoy the moments of solitude on the land. I found myself praying more, loving deeper, creating things I enjoy, eating healthier, cultivating friendships, and feeling like part of a larger community. Thank you for the thoughtful conversations, teaching me all things that I desired to learn- about permaculture, grant writing, and homesteading. I left Earth Mountain Farm a better person, more invigorated with life, passion and inspiration. I hope to visit again soon!

We had a wonderful experience at this farm! The land was beautiful and Joni and her community made us feel very welcome and taken care of. We enjoyed working and eating in fellowship and learning about gardening at high altitudes, animal husbandry, and as well as the original indigenous practices of prior land stewards. I'd highly recommend this, especially for those traveling with children!

Difficult to express how much living/working at Earth Mountain Education Farm is inspiring and deeply nourishes the mind. Joni, her family and the community around -neighbors, friends- are incredible people, friendly and vibrant. They all are very generous in time and attention, especially Joni… she taught me so much. Experiencing simple life in the mountains with her is something really special, unique. My 3 daughters – 3, 7 and 9 years old – loved it. What an enthusiastic model and a thrilling environment for kids! Since we left, we miss them. Not a day goes by without talking about them!

I Wwoofed at Earth Mountain Farm from March 20th to November 13th 2020; A total of 8 months. This was my 9th farm on the Wwoof Circuit LOL I have been continuously wwoofing since July of 2017 and these 8 months were my best experiences so far. It was also the most work that I did and Joni allowed me to have the most responsibilities in which I am greatful. I learned so much. It is a farm at 8300 ft elevation which is not for the meek of heart. It took me a solid 3 weeks to acclimate to the much lower oxygen levels and many hills that you walk to get around the farm on a daily basis. I was in real good shape coming from 5500 ft of Boulder, CO, working on farms there for a year. 8300 ft Will kick your butt! I did just about everything there with guidance from Joni who is a super human :) She Had stage 3 liver disease (in which she recently is a successful transplant survivor :) , who still rocked it the whole season taking care/managing two farms, one of which was an hour away in Trinidad called the Good Food Project. This Trinidad farm took a lot of her time so I was at Earth Mountain quite often by myself which was perfectly fine with me. This review would be longer but Wwoof is limiting the amount of words so I make the rest brief. I am very appreciative of the time I spend with Joni, Willow, Orion and Justice along with all their community based neighbors and life long friends that I made. Thanks for having me. I would definately go back.

Earth Mountain is a true homestead! Joni is an amazing teacher, host, friend, mother, and farm manager. The gardens, the people, the animals, and the mountain are never far from my mind or my heart!
