Five beautiful acres of pine forest with a lake good for swimming on the south side. The gardens are set up along the lake, permaculture style. Forest gardens are the plan here. This is a mostly secluded piece of property located at the end of a gravel road near 2 state parks. Optional Yoga classes are held by request some mornings. They will be custom tailored to your capability. We have honey bee's in a Warre Hive to pollinate the gardens. Want to learn how to buy inexpensive land and homestead it off grid? We can teach you! We are off grid as far as water goes and harvest rainwater. See a video of the system at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3p4B8WFfxw We have grid tie solar electric. Town is only an 8 minute drive and Austin is about 45 minutes. We will grow as much of our own food as possible, work on improving the eco friendly cob buildings, water the gardens, prepare fresh organic food, and enjoy living! There is a flush toilette, hot shower, washing machine, and kitchen. We make our town runs to Austin using a diesel truck that is fueled with used cooking (vegetable) oil and I can teach you how it is done. We perform our tasks for 6 hours a day, five days a week, 10:00 am - 1 pm and 2 pm - 5:00 pm.  We can pick you up from the airport or town provided the time is agreed upon in advance. . An extensive library of holistic health books and DVDs are here for you to look over.  On work days we serve a nice lunch. We are vegetarian and ask that no meat be taken onto the land.  Organic eggs are supplied by request. Raw, gluten free, and allergy free meals are available (you prepare it). We purchase the food, you give us a list, provided we consider it appropriate and healthy. There is a canoe that wwoofers are welcome to take out on the lake behind the house. The property is located in an endangered species zone for the Houston Toad and we will take precautions not to interfere with the toads. We will be planting existing gardens, making new raised garden beds, performing forest management, building projects are in the works and more! No experience is necessary to work with us! Please bring only fluoride free toothpaste and health food store brands of soap and shampoo because the water drains to the gardens (grey water). There is no trash pick up here, so please dump your trash before you arrive.  We are vegetarian and ask that no meat, fish or dairy be taken onto the land. No drugs or alcohol will be tolerated.. Organic methods: We make our own compost and use it in the garden beds. We also purchase organic compost to use in the gardens. We harvest mulch from the forest for the gardens.  Certifications: We practice organic methods but are not certified. Current projects: We need to plant and maintain garden beds., forest management, chocolate making, and more. There are things to be done. Internet access available

I stayed here for 2 weeks. This was my first time ever WWOOFing and I can say that it was a great experience. Craig and his family were very welcoming and accommodating. There are plenty of opportunities to learn and to do good work. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in staying here.

My stay unfortunately had to be cut short (fortunately, for good reasons related to work!), but even after only several days I was sad to go. Waking up in the cozy guest wing of the home to the fresh air of the forest garden was so refreshing. I felt right at home with Craig, Katja and Benji and enjoyed all my time spent with them. It’s amazing how quickly the time passed while working in the garden or on any of the projects around the property, and it felt like there was still plenty of time left over to do my own thing, enjoy the lake, or indulge in one of the many interesting books in the guest areas. I was inspired by how delicious such simple, vegan meals can be. As far as the work goes it feels like I was only able to dip my toe in the water, but it was more than enough to entice me to hopefully come back one day and learn much more!

Staying with Craig was my first WWOOF-ing experience, and it was wonderful! He took time to explain the process and the reasoning behind a lot of the work we do. The work was hard at times, but Craig was very accommodating. We often worked inside during hot afternoons, and he is considerate of everyone's capabilities. During my stay, we built new garden beds, a new compost bin, and a small greenhouse! I learned about fertilizing soil organically, and hand-pollinated a Surinam Cherry tree. Craig is so passionate about what he does, and it shows in his work! It's very peaceful on the property and around the area. Lots of beautiful scenery, with pine forests and a small lake behind the gardens. I stayed for a month, and I learned so much about permaculture, plant care, gardening, and nutrition. Eating a vegan diet was an adjustment for me, but the food they prepared was very pleasant. I got to try some foods I had never heard of before, and some great exotic fruits! Eating lunch with everyone on workdays was a highlight for me, the family was very welcoming. I loved talking with everyone and hearing about everyone's life experiences. I had a wonderful time, thank you so much Craig and Katya!

My stay here exceeded my expectations and I extended my stay indefinitely until the next leap in my journey takes place! It’s a beautiful property tucked off the main road with a natural pond to swim in, a garden to learn permaculture gardening in and a beautiful naturally built COB home to stay in Craig is so passionate about the land and the projects here and makes sure to keep all of the volunteers in the loop when he’s working on something new. He’s a great teacher and will show you/teach you any skill you’re unfamiliar with I enjoyed spending time getting to know his family and eating community lunch with them on work days! The work here is as physically demanding as you allow it to be- if you need more/less, Craig is aware of that and can tailor the work to fit your needs. Afternoons in the intense heat are usually modified to do work that is indoors or less physically demanding. My favorite projects include learning to make chocolate from raw ingredients, learning to use a chainsaw to cut/trim trees, painting picnic benches, learning to repair a wheelbarrow, creating new garden beds from scratch, planting and growing vegetables from seed, learning to turn over the Airbnb after guests have checked out, organizational tasks inside of the home and running errands outside of the farm! Craig carries so much wisdom and knowledge about permaculture, living mostly off grid and about taking care of your body through yoga and nutrition I follow a raw v...

I feel like one week there is just not enough. This is a small family farm run with love. It's 100% plant-based, eco-friendly on another level, and very peaceful. The daily rhythm was great. The accommodations and food were excellent. Everyone was respectful, and totatlly understanding of my religious stipulations. Communication with host was wonderful, and we could go on talking for hours. I wish I had found this years ago, and as a veteran WWOOFer, I would highly recommend it. Best work exchange ever. Thank you again to my new friends for the good time together.
