Off the grid in our owner-built log home in Middle Tennessee
Tennessee
My wife Sharon and I live off the grid in our owner-built log home in Middle Tennessee in the middle of one hundred wooded acres. We live voluntarily simply, growing much of our food and spend each of our days creatively. We have gardened organically for 35 years and can provide a stimulating learning situation. We are open to help for a week or two or three. Beside gardening, there is opportunity to learn sculpture, woodworking, and alternative building skills. We have made our living as artists and gardeners. We welcome helpers capable of occasional strenuous work such as turning garden beds and handling firewood. Accommodations will be primitive but comfortable, a room over my sculpture studio. We only have one vehicle but will be willing to transport some. English spoken. Children/pets negotiable. Most meals provided, stipend and ingredients for self preparation of some meals, mostly vegetarian. This is a BEAUTIFUL area, with lots of local artists and organic farmers. There are two longtime intentional communities nearby, a forming alternative commercial distillery, and caves to spelunk within 1/4 mile. If pets, they must be fine with fowl or restrained. We are happy to accommodate health or conscience related dietary restrictions. Otherwise we all eat what is prepared: healthy food, mostly organic, low sugar, etc.
Organic methods: BT, mulching, composting, companion plants
Certifications: Small home garden
Current projects: Through the year we have garden work, building projects, animal care, sculpture and woodworking projects, firewood, tending Hipcamp site, and cooking.

William and Sharon's property is an ideal setting for a great experience WWOOFing. The spring fed creek, great conversations and friendly animals make any "work" totally worth it.

I spent one phenomenal week on William and Sharon's homestead and stayed in both the WWOOF room and the HipCamp Hut--each cozy and special in their own way.
I prepared their garden for Spring and assisted with a variety of other tasks--splitting and stacking firewood, animal chores, smoothing out some potholes on the road. William showed me the ropes in his studio and taught me how to make a gorgeous cutting/charcuterie board.
William and Sharon opened their home to me and fed me real well. Already they feel like family. I am grateful for the stories and wisdom and practical life skills they are sharing with us. I have learned so much from them about how to steward the land in resourceful, innovative ways.
This is an idyllic location to read, make art, meditate, pray, and commune with Mother Earth.

What a great introduction to WWOOFing. Will and Sharon were so warm, welcoming and supportive - it was almost like staying with family. Their property is a little slice of heaven and I got to do so much. From getting the garden ready for summer, to feeding the animals, to painting - Will even let me work in his studio (amazing in its own right) on a cutting board that he personalized and let me take home and I even got to flex my artist chops by starting a new painting in the WWOOFer room, AND geode hunting in the creek. Super cute dogs and goats were a bonus. Lovely people, lovely place, lovely time. Thank you Will & Sharon♥️

I had a wonderful time with William and Sharron who were very gracious with their home and hospitality. In the short time I was there they made me feel like family while giving me takes of their journey in sustainable simple living. I highly recommend them as a first time WWOOFing experience and plan to return in the future. Thank you so much guys!

William and Sharon were such incredible host! My work included building drainage ditches, planting in the garden, chopping lots of wood, helping take care if chickens and goats and many other small projects. They're home in beautiful and hand-built by William. They also have a beautiful HipCamp Cabin that was fun to spend some free time in. When I wasn't working I spent time walking around their 110 acres on land and working in a cutting board. This was my first WWOOF experience it could not have gone better. Highly recommend spending some time here!

Beach Hollow Studios was an amazing place for a first-time WWOOFer. William and Sharon are kind, knowledgeable, and easygoing. My work was very manageable and I felt like I was able to make a real impact on the property and in the studio. William and Sharon's home and surrounding area are beautiful as well and I was given ample time to explore such.
