We are a small family owned organic farmstead with two hi tunnels one is 20 x 92 feet the other is 16 x 20. We have the greatest good for woof help in April may. June July is project and maintained time. August is harvest and food storage. We are also developing small outdoor gardens for field crops.  The large tunnel and gardens  are being developed using permaculture principles including a small food forest with integrated chickens. Rare breed chickens are raised for eggs and breeding. Peak season is March - October.we also run a bed and breakfast hosting travelers from all over the world. We are expanding beyond inn keeping and creating yurts.  Our focus is providing loving tolerant community space for travelers from all over the world  we play music share food and play catan. We are located in Beautiful Homer Alaska, the beach, bay, and town are all walking distance. kayaking, hiking, sailing, music and arts are all here and accessible. There is a growing organic farm community and many woofers in the area. Accommodations are in the family home, with bay views and with family dinners, carpentry skills are appreciated. a couple is welcome long term agreements are available. 25 hours a week minimum is expected in return for housing and shared dinners, house chores are shared, beautiful view, beautiful place...firepit on site, hand drummers and musicians encouraged, slip cob builders would be celebrated! I am willing to entertain the possibility of couples or pairs of friends with discussion first...call and we can talk...this is our sanctuary, no drugs alcohol on site. We are unapologetic nerd types.  With a drug and alcohol free home. 25 hours a week; shared dinners and chores. Respectful and fun is wonderful   Organic methods: Rotating crops, ferments And teas for fertilizer Compost, cover crops, working chickens, plant community Certifications: Permacultirist organic not certified Current projects: Big renovations this year! 2021. On top of 2020 village build. New out door row covered gardens for cole crops. Chickens in the move with new chicks adding variety to the flock streamlining permaculture food forest community and install wood stove in new sauna !! Internet access available

I had an absolutely wonderful time at here. I 100% recommend. Robin was an amazing host, historian, and tour guide for Homer. You'll have a great time getting to know her family and working in her high tunnel. She is very knowledgeable on herbs and greens. The chickens are a real hoot also. I'll cherish the memories and lessons of some great downtime at the Shire.

My friend and I stayed with Robin and her family for two weeks and it was a great experience! The place is amazing and has the most beautiful view. We worked in the high tunnels, did some babysitting and helped with the airbnb yurts. The house is busy with the kids and there is always something going on. We went to the beach a couple of times to swim and also made a fire ones, this was especially nice! It was great to get out and experience the local area as several things are in walking distance. I definitely recommend wwoofing with Robin, especially if you like kids.

Robin and her family are truly some of the kindest most considerate people I have ever met, and I really enjoyed my stay here. The work you do is varied, and you gotta enjoy kids and animals because there are some of both here! The house is a busy one. The days are really fun, we did lots of dipping in the ocean and looking around Homer, and the sights are just so beautiful. Definitely recommend woofing here if you can :))

Robyn at the Shire brought me into her home like a daughter. During my one-month stay, we grew together through laughter and hardship. The intimate setting was great for getting to know the host, co-wwoofers, and town very quickly. The Shire's location is ideal for someone who wants to have very easy access to a small town and its people. We went on daily walks to the beach and worked on several projects around the garden simultaneously. We learned a lot about fruit tree guilds and symbiotic relationships when gardening. Would highly recommend!

Robin and the Shire is an amazing WOOF-ing experience. If you want to be part of a family full of fun and learning you should definitely give the Shire a try! It isn't a fast paced work environment and Robin does not work you long hours. She is up to going sightseeing and trips to the Spit are the best. Robin is incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the Homer area and is ready to share all of it with you. Robin truly cares about her WOOF-ers and makes sure that you are enjoying working and living at the Shire. It's very fun to be around the animals, my running buddy Delilah especially. The Homer area is also a wonderful place to be with much to see within walking distance. Lots of great hiking close by and amazing views of the bay from her living room. I'm very thankful for choosing the Shire and will definitely be coming back for a visit!
