Beautiful productive homestead near Sequoia National Forest
California
Located on 10 acres of beautiful wooded land in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains at an elevation of 3,170 ft. I need some help starting a fall garden and greenhouse. Hiking in the Park on Sunday… Our homestead/farm is within two miles of the Sequoia National Forest and within twelve miles of the entrance to King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. We are within 100 miles of Yosemite National Park, 250 miles from San Francisco, and 200 miles from Los Angeles.
My goal is to build a productive garden and grow healthy organic produce utilizing sustainable practices with the intention of becoming as self sustaining as possible. I’m looking for gardening friends to help with preparing and building a beautiful winter garden. A quality vegetarian/vegan diet with cooked food and raw food is provided. Foods in our diet that we are not producing, or not yet producing will be provided to you. An interest in vegetarian/vegan cooking is a plus. I am spiritual person, understanding both eastern and western paths, and I don't impose my beliefs on anyone. I have great respect for nature and for others, I maintain a positive attitude and live in a peaceful natural environment. It is essential that we function in harmony.
*Description of Surrounding Area--I am on 10 acres of semi-wooded hillside land with natural plateaus, and areas that have been graded for growing. The view from the property is extremely beautiful. We are up on the side of a mountain looking out across a canyon, with the Sierra Nevada mountain range in the background. The terrain is a mixture of forest with pines and redwoods, and grassy rolling hills. The soil is very rich. There are two small creeks on the property that run December through June and both creeks are within yards of the house, one on the north side and one on the south side. There is a creek with a within walking distance. Water for the property is supplied by an artesian spring well. There is a natural spring on the property that could be tapped for a water supply separate from the lodge.
*Description of activities--We currently have apricot, peach, pear, apple, and plum trees. The crops that we are interested in growing are lettuce, kale, swiss chard, scallions, garlic, onions, cilantro, carrots, wheat grass, sprouts, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, beets, peppers, heirloom crops, and heirloom herbs.
*Suggested length of stay--Initially the stay will be week to week. WWOOFers that get along harmoniously with us and prove to be a valuable asset to the farm will be asked to stay on a month to month basis. The right person could potentially stay and work here for a year or more.
*Non-agricultural activities--Everyone in the household participates in kitchen activities and cleans up after themselves. Sometimes meals are prepared for the group and sometimes individuals prepare their own food. We would potentially be interested in setting up tepees or creating a small tepee village if that is of interest to you.
*Expectations of wwoofers--Organic gardening, caring for fruit trees, building garden beds, weeding. Four hours service per day ...Six days per week.
*When wwoofers are needed--As soon as possible.
*Accommodations--The lodge is a beautiful A-frame with windows going all the way up to the top of the frame. The lodge is kept neat and clean. The floors are natural stone tile. The common room is the showcase room of the house, the living room, overlooking an amazing view with double sliding glass doors opening out to the canyon. The living room has a fireplace, three couches, a high quality sound system and widescreen satellite TV. A wireless network signal is provided for internet access. If you do not have a computer, and your initial stay turns into a longer term working agreement, we could conceivably supply you with a computer to use. A room in the house may be available when you contact us. If a room in the house is not available at that time, we will provide tent housing until a cabin can be built.
*Transportation options--We will provide transportation from and to Visalia, CA, which is about 40 miles southeast of Fresno. Amtrak has a terminal in Hanford with a shuttle bus that takes you into Visalia. Greyhound has a terminal in Visalia.
*Languages spoken--English, some Spanish.
*Willingness to accept children and pets--Children and pets are accepted.
*Meals and special diets--A quality vegetarian/vegan diet with cooked food and raw food is provided. If you have special dietary needs you should explain them in your response to this profile.
*Nearby area sights and fun things to do--Sequoia National Park is within two miles, Kings Canyon National Park is within ten miles. Redwood forests, rivers and waterfalls are nearby. Hiking, camping, swimming, running, and bicycling are available year round.

I greatly enjoyed my time helping out on Ronald's property. I spent a week there helping weed whack, clear garden beds, and assist with cleaning around the house. The work was light and Ronald and his assistant Brenda were very knowledgeable about gardening and plant propagation.
Ronald and Brenda were very kind in giving tours of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks as well.
If you're planning on WWOOFing here Id recommend having some knowledge on cooking, Ronald gives full access of ingredient's in his household but if you have something in particular in mind Id recommend preparing ahead!
I loved my time there and hope to return some time in the future!

This was a very positive first wwoofing experience. The farm is located in a beautiful and peaceful mountain setting. There are several raised beds, trees, ponds, and a greenhouse, and meaningful work to do. Ron is easy to get along with, and makes delicious vegetarian burritos and cookies !

Ronald's home and garden in the mountains was a great first WWOOF experience. He is a grateful and considerate host that cooks delicious meals. He is generous and always there to help share the load of labor. After work one morning, he took us to the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. What a privilege. Thank you again, Ronald!

Ronald is an incredible person! I would recommend anyone who wants a change of environment to come to his house. I had to return to France earlier than expected, but my stay there went very well. The work was not hard and Ronald does everything to make you feel good. His dog is adorable. On Sunday we went to the National Park, it was a great experience for me. Sincerely, Ronald is really a good person. He has a lot of things to teach you and to share with you. I hope I can come back to see him!

My experience at the farm was great!! Ronald is the most caring host, his house is beautiful and his goat is funny :) I helped with the Airbnb and some outdoor works and had lots of fun! Ronald took me for 3 days in a row to the Nationals Parks and showed me around! I highly recommend staying there with him, he makes the best pancakes in the country ;) Thanks for everything!!!

This is a place to heal your hearts, and open your souls. Nothing is a coincidence...we met some beautiful people here and we are forever grateful to Ronald and his son. We were fed the best breakfast pancakes, had amazing smoothies, homemade yogurt, and the best dinner before residing to our amazing green room! The work was hard, but so rewarding and so therapeutic. We’ll be seeing you again soon! Thank you for being such kind humans <3
