Our goats produce place-based milk from fresh woodland and pasture plants.  The “Cattail and Sky” blueberry field offers a community-involved PYO plus various grades of berries for home use or retail sale in late July to late August, and harvest crew members are usually needed. We continue to develop and offer knowledge and skills for a climate- improving and somewhat climate-resilient way of receiving direct sustenance from soil. Shana is a specialist in pruning for animal fodder from the "air meadow" tree canopy; we are focused on cyclically pruning more areas of the woodland tree canopy, an ancient traditional practice, plus SARE FNE22-013 project involving power tools and a leaf separator machine. The goat’s pal Angelo, a Jersey steer/ox, is learning riding and driving skills.  Nosenia the retired American Guinea sow hauls hay and fodder to the herd in winter. Woody refuse from goat fodder sometimes gets turned into open-burned biochar, for urine catchment and soil improvement. Abandoned gardens produce wild greens for on-farm use, plus a few heirloom vegetables/seeds. A small orchard offers peaches, pears, apples, various berries, grapes, and small hazel nuts. There are tasks year-round. Lodging is in an off-grid house, or in the cabin. Shana apologizes to speak only English.  We are four miles from Penobscot Bay near a high spot to hike. Belfast has a good library, and Coop store. Four contiguous hours of work on a schedule negotiated between us and we provide lodging and simple breakfast plus one good meal, but you have to help cook (Shana tends to live on milk and blueberries, with root veggies and our meat more in winter). Shana would especially like visits from musicians who play for Eastern European folk dancing, and who enjoy climbing. Certifications: Both the Catttail & Sky blueberry property and 3 Streams Farm are Certified since 2023 as Conservation Landscapes by Waldo County Soil & Water Conservation District. Super super cool, Shana is awe inspiring and wise. Be prepared for a rough off-grid experience (no running water or toilet). So much to learn from Shana and her way with the land and animals. She's also, like, a trailblazing scholar in the agroforestry field, if you can find someone cooler lmfk. Hope to return inshahallah!

Shana was a wonderful hostess and though I only was able to stay for a short time, I learned so much from her. The animals are so well cared for and a joy to be around— I was lucky enough to be here when a new baby goat was born! I am so grateful for this experience and hope to go back for a longer stay in the future. Highly recommend 3 Streams Farm.

If your looking for someone with experience living off grid, this is the place to go. Shana lives in a spacious off grid house where she lives close to land and takes care of her goats, cow, and pig. She has extensive knowledge about animal care and environmentally friendly practices. She really enjoys teaching others and sharing her knowledge! Also a good place for jamming together with music.
