John & Kathy are amazing hosts and I have loved every second of working on their farm. They are both hilarious and so much fun to be around. The work includes all kinds of things - weeding, mowing, pickaxing, harvesting fruit, planting seeds, painting, and obviously keeping the area you live in tidy. I've been here with 6 other people and each one of them has been an amazing addition to the farm. It feels just like a large family here - cats, chickens, the occasional dog, and all of us of course. The farm is in the best location possible as we get cooler & more tropical weather to work in and warmer, slightly drier weather when we want to head down to the ocean. I've been here without a car or bike but have found it very easy to hitchhike, run, or walk wherever I need to go (it's fun if you're already an active person!). The people that live on this island are very welcoming and kind and love to help out when they can. If you get along with people easily, are a hard worker, and have a great attitude, you will thrive at this farm. This place will forever hold a special place in my heart. John & Kathy have made a wonderful little paradise with wonderful people!

Our stay here definitely exceeded our expectations. It’s hard to put into words everything we experienced here but we will try to go over all of the things that are probably most important to someone thinking about visiting! (Which yes you absolutely should) As a couple we got our own little bungalow type deal called Vista. Although it’s a little bit of a walk and the WiFi doesn’t reach all the way up, the VIEW is amazing and plus you get a little privacy when you need. Totally worth it. Also probably the comfiest bed you will get to sleep on as a WWOOFer. They always make sure you have your rice, oats, beans, pancake mix etc. Plus there’s almost always some kind of fruit that we’ve harvested recently to share. Bananas, plantains, papayas, pomegranates, ulu and more. It’s so fun and delicious to get to eat straight from the farm and also learn how to incorporate farm items into meals. We learned how to make ulu pancakes and they were so good. They also have a blender so we made countless fresh smoothies. Enjoying your meals in the common area with the other WWOOFers is always entertaining, lots of laughs for sure! There’s also books, games, and even a projector to watch movies on together! The farm work is work but it’s nice because you’re usually never doing the same thing back to back or even for the whole day (unless it’s a coffee harvest which is still fun because everyone is doing it together). You’ll definitely get sweaty and maybe some dirt u...

It's La Buena Vida in L. B. V. Farm. I've enjoyed the farming experience working with John & Kathy. They've been really great host & have a great set up. There's a abundance of fruits to eat & abundance of weeds to pull. They really look out for the workers by reminding them about safety. If you love the ocean, enjoy learning about good healthy farming practices & catching sunsets these is the spot to be. It's a great community out here full of aloha.

John and Kathy were incredible hosts and the farm was unbelievably beautiful! Our safety and comfort was always very high on the priority list. There were no surprises when I got to the farm, the living conditions and working hours were as-stated and we were never expected to work anything over our agreed upon time. The living spaces and common areas are outdoor open-air so there are bugs, slugs, and geckos, but if that doesn’t bother you then the views more than make up for it. If I come back to the island there is no doubt I’ll back back to LBV, John and Kathy were gracious, respectful, and tons of fun and they’ve really curated a great space for wwoofers on their farm. Thanks for everything guys, I had an incredible time!

Grateful to have experienced farming in Hawai’i! On this farm I had the opportunity to paint my first mural with some friends and I learned so much about tropical fruits. It helps a lot to have some experience with gardening/farming because you will be doing a good amount of independent work. Kathy is very knowledgeable about plants, tools, and trees and John is very helpful when it comes to paint projects, building and some landscaping. One of my favorite things about this farm is the feel that you are in a community. Everyone works together and there were many bonding and group activities throughout my stay. Mahalo☀️

I highly recommend this farm if you are looking to balance work and free time. Everything was as the host profile described it. Instead of going out, I enjoyed staying on the farm most of my free time because there were good selections of books you could read, space to practice yoga, good Wifi connection, an outdoor kitchen to enjoy cooking, and some animals you could watch/play with. It was my dream to work on a coffee farm on the Big Island and drink 100% Kona coffee there and here is where it came true. I’ve learned about growing, harvesting, and processing tropical fruits and so much more. My eight weeks of farm stay was a very fulfilling and memorable experience. Big thanks to Kathy and John!
