Organic 20 acre homestead located in the Jocko River Valley on the Flathead Indian Reservation, MT
Montana
We are currently looking for WWOOFers for the growing season from May through September, short stays are welcome. We are an organic 20 acre homestead located in the Jocko River Valley on the Flathead Indian Reservation about 25 miles north of Missoula, Montana and 10 minutes from the small town of Arlee. Our property is a mix of agricultural field, forested hillsides, and meadows with the Jocko River running along the edge. We have a small organic orchard of 14 trees, a large raised bed garden, and the beginnings of a vineyard consisting of 124 vines. We are not a commercial operation but would like to sell grapes in the future.
For 20 hours of work a week we will provide camping in a small camper, a sun shower, composting outhouse, outdoor kitchen with table & chairs, propane cook stove, cooler and ice, bear-proof food box and a fire pit with wood. We'll provide breakfast food and food for meals that you prepare yourself. We provide family sit-down dinners 2x/week (vegetarian options available).
We provide transportation to and from the airport if necessary.
Work may include weeding, mowing, garden/soil prep, mulching, pruning, harvesting, irrigation, fence construction, trellising and training of vines, freezing and drying of fruits and veggies, canning, wine making, and misc. tasks. We are looking for hard working, respectful, happy :) individuals that love camping, enjoy the outdoors and diverse weather conditions. We can accommodate 2 people, no pets or children please, and ask that you give dates of arrival with an estimated length of stay. We are offering a 1-2 week stay and if the ""fit"" is good, we will work with you to negotiate longer stays. We reserve the right to ask you to leave at anytime. A telephone interview is required.
The homestead resides in a beautiful small valley in Montana, surrounded by many hiking and mountain biking trails. Kayaking on pristine lakes and rivers is just a drive away, as well as some of the best fishing in the west. Glacier National Park is two hours away, Flathead Lake one hour, and the Mission Mountains a short drive from our home. All are spectacular . The National Bison Range is a 30 minute drive north. Wildlife is abundant and people are few.
We could use help between May and October, length of stay is negotiable. Also, we do live on the reservation and if you want to recreate on the rez you will need to purchase a ""conservation permit"" running $9.00 in Missoula at any sports store. The permit is only for reservation use, everything else outside the rez is free. Happy WWOOF-ing!

I had such a wonderful time at this homestead! Charlie and Lyuda were very welcoming and accommodating hosts! Charlie made sure to give me a variety of fun farm tasks and made sure I knew how appreciative he was of my work! It was so nice to spend so much time outdoors on their stunning property surrounded by mountains and trees and I had plenty of time to explore the surrounding areas, especially since I got to do the work on my own schedule! I would definitely recommend this experience if you want to connect with nature, eat yummy produce, and get your hands in the dirt!

Charlie’s place was awesome! It was beautiful there and the work was relaxed, mostly weeding and harvesting things from the garden. He was super accommodating and always made sure that I had everything I needed in my little WWOOFer area. Definitely more like glamping stay wise! It was an amazing first WWOOF experience and I would definitely recommend to anyone interested!

This was such a wonderful experience! Charlie and Lyuda were very hospitable and it did not take very long for us to feel at home. The accommodations were exactly what we needed for the week and were very comfortable. We were able to cook, clean, and sleep very comfortably. The work was exactly what you would expect, a lot of weeding (and some planting!). It was very relaxing and there were little expectations as to when you did the work, as long as it was done. The garden was lovely to work in and it was a great feeling to lift your head up and see the beautiful mountains. The area is sublime. We had many great after work adventures in Lolo National Forest and Flathead Lake. We felt so lucky to have made this spot our home in such a short timespan. Montana is a beautiful place; two crows is a great place if you are looking to explore Montana’s nature. We were sad to leave! Y’all have got a great thing going on out there and we hope that we’ll meet again in the future!

My stay was short but very pleasant! Charlie is a kind and considerate host that communicates in advance, covering important details about the property, tasks, and your needs!
My only real regret is that I didn't have more time for my trip out to the area!

I loved my time here! Charlie and Lyuda are two fun and amazing people who made sure I was comfortable throughout my entire stay. The work was good and I had plenty of time to explore all the beautiful trails and scenery Montana had to offer. The camper was cozy, especially when it gets cold and you turn the heater on. The only thing I would say is that if you are thinking about staying, make sure you like the outdoors/camping experience. This part of Montana is just absolutely breathtaking and I cannot wait to come back and visit. Thank you Charlie and Lyuda for being great hosts!
