Washington tree farm with saw mill and organic gardens
Washington
Jan 2026 update: I now have ducks for duck eggs and entertainment, as they follow us around the farm. The organic vegetable garden area and composting has been enlarged and we have a farm stand for the produce in the Fall. The tree farm is also growing with some 50+ species of trees and trails for access. With the help we make wood products, benches, tables, cutting boards, etc supporting local weekend farm markets. From a recreation standpoint there are a variety of hikes and adventures I wanted to list on the site for Woofers to experience.
Washington tree farm located near Bayview State Park with mature Douglas Fir, Red Cedar and Maple trees approaching 100 years, with more than 40 different tree species of all sizes. Seedling trees are used to fill thin areas in the forest. Organic gardens of vegetables, berries, and fruit trees supplement dinner at the tree farm. We have a small saw mill that is used to provide lumber needed for out-buildings and replacing decks.
WWOOFers are needed especially in the Spring and Fall to plant seedling trees. In the summer months it's gardening, picking wild berries and clearing areas for new trees. Also during the summer watering and clearing vines from seedling trees helps foster the trees to survive the underbrush. The organic garden and greenhouse require planting, watering and harvesting during the growing season.
Accommodations are primarily a small cabin with facilities built of local woods from the tree farm. Camping and RV areas are also available. Children and pets are okay for short stays of a week or so. Work schedule is flexible. No smoking. I have two trail bikes that can be borrowed to ride.
There are many things to do in the nearby Skagit Valley:
- Deception Pass State Park (30 min drive)
- Town of Anacortes (20 min drive)
- San Juan Islands (accessible by ferry from Anacortes)
- Biking is great in Skagit Valley
- North Cascades National Park (75 minute drive)
- Oyster Dome hike and view point (15 minute drive)
And of course, wonderful hiking trails on my property!

Great experience during my week with Chris. He's an enthusiastic, patient teacher and I learned a lot. The work was enough to stay busy but not overly strenuous. The surrounding environment was beautiful.

Chris puts an insane amount of work into the things he loves most. The land, his furry & feathered companions, & connecting with people. He's very kind and helpful. I only stayed here one week but almost every moment was filled with a good hands on activity, and if we weren't working, we were laughing at his ducks or enjoying a sweet snack over conversations. The cabin I stayed in was perfect. It has actually given me inspiration to build my own cabin one day. We mostly planted trees which was cool. I will definitely return here when I have the chance!

WWOOFing with Chris was such a special experience. His humor was something I looked forward to every day, and he was so welcoming to both me and my dog. The work was flexible, and he was always an accommodating host. You can tell how much love he puts into his animals and his little piece of land—it’s such a beautiful and peaceful place. Chris was generous and kind, and Frankie and I genuinely miss our morning walks and evening chats with him.

I loved my time here! The land was beautiful and Chris has a heart of gold. I will be missing all his animals dearly! The cats are so sweet, his pup is just a big goof and the ducks are hilarious. I'll definitely try to make my way back up here!

What a delight it was to spend a week with Chris and his Animals. Chris was a wonderful and welcoming host and we thoroughly enjoyed his company. Like any good farm there are plenty of tasks to choose from, however, we were kept busy by the veggie patch, track clearing, and building the duck haven. We highly recommend this stay to all WWOOFers and will likely be back again. Thanks again for having us Chris, enjoy the Pickles!
