Hi all, we are an Organic farm in a fertile valley on the Olympic Peninsula, surrounded by mountains and ocean in the rain shadow which provides a sunny almost desert climate, just 60 miles from a rain forest. Many unusual species grow here and some that have yet to be introduced to this area. We relocated from Texas to here recently and spent 10 years with WWOOF as a host farm and loved the cultural diversity and exchange. From recipes to music and techniques, we’ve seen some very interesting times. We focused on mycelium isolation, production and hydroponic growth. Here we will focus on permaculture and berries, hazelnut, best pear apples we’ve tasted and other figs herbs and expanding these all from cuttings. We may dabble in tropical plants some too. We are setting up, cleaning up our beds for spring and working our compost for fertilizer this winter. Intent is to grow much from seed in our vast beds and raised beds too. We are in a high end community and have a high visibility in the community with opportunity to sell from road side stands. Scopes of work may include construction of these and beds for growth this winter, plumbing irrigation and tilling and working the land and cutting propagation in the greenhouse. Our berries are gonna be large production in late spring to fall with greenhouse type raised beds and our walk in greenhouse. https://olympicdiscoverytrail.org/ The Olympic discovery trail is an old railroad that’s been turned into a mostly paved bike trail that connects dozens of towns over 300 miles in length from forks to Seattle. It’s like nothing no where else. We can bike to Costco 2 miles away. We often bike to doctors appointments. We live in walkable city. I teach a wide range of skills and techniques and how to ethically profit from opportunities we seize on. We cold plunge, cliff dive, bike, hike, fish, stare at the stars, and have learned some very valuable skills and lessons. We start our day pretty early most every day. 7am ish Typical weeks would be 4 and 1/2 days 4-5 hours depending on experience and expertise time of year. Work is a mix of solo tasks and responsibilities and joint work with a team that can vary on the seasons and conditions. Chris is a gifted farm chef, Japanese style ramens, soups and incredible veggies are often in the menu. We are cool going vegan if you are, but cheese is so tough to give up lol. We regrow some of the food we eat as well. By retaining the stems of beets, carrots, radishes leeks, onions etc to plant again. Neighbors are friends and keep bees, you can learn from them as well. Their bees keep our veggies poppin up. Facilities include high end rowing machine and Pilates equipment, hot tub. We have a large modern RV available too that’s fancy and may be available in the spring and summer not sure about winters. We can discuss. If you have a van or something to live in we can provide power water etc too. If you have an RV you’d like to bring to the property the county restricts time frames we’ve found out. We can discuss the details, it’s not a deal breaker but there’s some permit required we’d cover cost on if we decide to work together.

I am so grateful for my experience at this queer-friendly farm! I learned a lot about growing mushrooms and had plenty of animals to love on! Chris and Chrissy were very kind hosts that were accommodating/flexible and shared great stories and beautiful spots to explore. They welcomed my cat and worked with my dietary needs. Highly recommend them as people and hosts! I will miss them <3

Had a great time at Texas Organic Matters! Learned a lot in the week I was there and met some great people. The cabin is super cozy and Chris will go out of his way to make sure your stay is safe and welcoming. Felt like I was there a month and got to work on neighboring farms while I was there for $$. Didn’t want to leave but definitely want to come back!! Loved the cattle dogs and chickens and learned how to fish in the big pond. Truly left with a humble, unique experience.

We were welcomed with open arms from day one at Texas Organic Matters. We had been in a challenging situation prior to our arrival which put us in a negative headspace; but the compassion, understanding and care we received here helped us recover. Chris and Chrissy are generous with their knowledge and time; we learned a lot during the week and a half we were there. Chris encouraged us to think outside the box and solve problems creatively. Chrissy's laugh is so infectious that we couldn't help but join in. Their daughter, Page, was awesome to work with too! Their family also includes seven dogs, all of whom are the most aggressively affectionate creatures I've ever met. I would highly recommend visiting them for your next stay!

I had a blast working on this farm! Chris and his family are the sweetest and so welcoming. The work was super fun and I came away with a lot of new knowledge about many different things like: mushrooms, cooking, and just good good life advice. The food was super good and the cabin was cozy and clean 10/10 would recommend.
