5 acres of Heaven. Orchard, gardens, aquaponics and more
North Carolina
I arrived in May of 2024 and so far:
-40+ fruit trees have already been planted
- a 26' geodesic dome greenhouse is built and planted See growingspaces.com for more info on that. It includes aquaponics.
-a 20 X 40 inground garden has been planted and fenced
-2 gourd tunnels are built and planted
-berry bushes and pollinator plants are planted
-a 28 foot RV is ready for guests
-the chicken coop is full of chickens.
-a herb garden (including a herb spiral) has been started
-Gazebo as a teaching space and a relaxing hangout is finished
- a meadow has been started and flowers, amaranth and quinoa will be planted in the spring
-a meditation/yoga house is built in the back by the woods
What we're going to do:
-The goal is to be an example of organic, sustainable small-scale food production. As we get going, 30-40% of net production will go to local food banks.
-There will be more fruit trees to plant, and we'll learn orchard management as we go.
-a teaching schedule will begin in fall 2025
-looking to build out part of the large garage into more living quarters for volunteers.
Tasks to be done: There is a wide variety of tasks from orchard management to greenhouse to weeding to making herbal products.
When you step onto the property, the first thing you'll notice is the smell of the Leland Cypress trees that line the huge swimming pool. There are bats, bird songs, and fireflies. It's a lovely place. You'll be staying in the RV, which is newer, and very comfy, and stocked with food. The pool area is open to hang out or swim, and there are nice places to sit or swing around the pool . There is hangout space in the greenhouse, the meditation/yoga hut and the gazebo. My goal is always win-win. I want this to be a good experience for everyone. I am skilled in some aspects of herbalism as well as homeopathy and am glad to offer that knowledge as well. Eventually, we'll have a healing garden here also.
I ask that you be respectful to the earth. In all things, we have an earth first approach. No excessive drinking, no drug use. Occasional vaping and smoking if you must, outside only. If you need a cigarette every hour, we probably aren't a good fit. CHEMICAL FREE HOUSE! IMPORTANT! Please check all of your personal products on EWG.org skin deep database. No perfumes, no clothes washed in perfumed detergents. It's okay if you smell like a person. :) We have 2 dogs, 1 cat, 2 cockatiels and lots of chickens, so please be animal friendly.

Asheville is probably the best option if you're flying in. I can pick you up there, or anywhere closer.

Cynthia is an amazing host and her property is a beautiful oasis. There are lots of friendly pets on her property who are fun to play with. Every meal was nutritious with ingredients sourced from her homestead. Cynthia is highly knowledgeable of regenerative farming practices and I thoroughly enjoyed learning from her. I would absolutely return.

Cynthia was a lovely host, who we would definitely recommend! She has a ton of knowledge about herbalism, homesteading, and homeopathy, and is an excellent teacher. The RV accommodation was very nice, clean, and homey. She also welcomed us into her own home for meals that she provided (all of which included things from her own gardens, which were delicious, and we were very well fed). We stayed with her for a week towards the end of fall, so our work consisted mainly of preparing the garden and her orchard for winter. We pruned, laid down weed blocks, and harvested the last of the crop. She walked us through each task, teaching us while we worked, sometimes working alongside us. She's very caring, so she made sure we took plenty of breaks for snacks and water. We enjoyed getting to know her and hearing about her attitude towards life was incredibly inspiring. We miss her and her beautiful property already!

What a beautiful spot! The accommodations are top tier, with A/C, a pool, and all the nature & tranquility one could hope for! Cynthia is a lady on a mission, very driven, super caring, and a great hostess all around! I was never worried about meals, tracking working hours, or safety. It's a peaceful place to work, and the limit of 2 week stays definitely leaves you wanting to come back and visit again! :)
Oh, and there's also dogs, if you're into that! haha
10/10 - I hope to revisit someday in the future, either as Woofer or friend!

Cynthia was an incredible first WWOOFing host for me! So kind and helpful, and I learned so much even over the course of my short stay. She asked what I was most interested in doing, and so the experience was tailored to my skills and interests. Her animals are friendly and adorable. The RV I stayed in was so comfortable. Can't recommend this enough!

I really enjoyed my time here!!! It was the perfect place for my first WWOOF experience. The ideal amount of work is required, leaving the remainder of the day to explore the area. I spent most of my work time with my hands in the dirt weeding, pruning, and doing some fun indoor activities. My favorite part about my experience here was definitely interacting with the community that Cynthia has formed here. Her knowledge of the plants she's growing and her experience in herbalism attracts many like-minded people who seem to share similar passions.

It was so wonderful to be at Cynthia's place! I've tried dozens of tropical fruit and herbs which were all new to me, and had also a lot of fun with weeding and harwesting in the garden as well as food preserving in the house. It was definetely the better side of Florida and I already miss it.
