We are a small, certified organic farm located in San Diego North County. The property is beautiful, tucked in a corner at the end of the road against 1000 acres of undeveloped hillside, but still 5 minutes from coffee shops and town (and train center) , 20 minutes to the beach by car, 40 by train. The weather is absolutely perfect and every direction you look there is beauty. Visitors regularly comment about feeling peaceful, calm, safe, and welcomed. Please read this: Why do we host Wwoofers? We host Wwoofers in order to engage them in the love and labor of farming. The education and experience and relationships are the most important parts. We are not at all, in any way, interested in a work-for-stay or long term living arrangement. Most our visitors stay for 3 to 7 days as that is enough time to experience the farm life. Terrain: Farming on a slope presents its challenges and opportunities: it's definitely a learning process but we've spent 7 years working the land to be ready. We have developed a natural spring and use an off grid solar pump system to transfer the water to the top of the property (over 1500 gallons a day). From there, we have 3 acres on gravity fed, off grid, drip irrigation.   We've focused on permaculture  and sculpting the land . We are just now getting into aquaponics using tilapia and grow trays inside the greenhouse. We have 10 zones of raised beds, all in standardized lengths with 4 beds per zone. The beds are organized by plant group, and are scheduled on a 4 year rotation to prevent pests and cycle nutrients. All beds have letter codes, color coordinated, and activities such as planting and harvest dates are tracked through a phone app and visible online. Wwoofers have helped us to compost, mulch, run irrigation, start seed trays, transplant, water, weed, harvest, and distribute to the local farm stand. There are also many local farmers markets in the region to visit, but we don't currently sell at any of these out of preference for the farm stand. The goal is to create a sustainable native landscape (protecting our beautiful native trees) in harmony with organic farming. At our elevation, we are above the frost and have the most days of sunshine in the nation. We occasionally have a pleasant early morning fog and late afternoon ocean breeze. There is plenty of wildlife: from coyotes, roadrunners, bobcats, hawks, owls, quail, etc. Because we live on the border of wild lands, we sometimes need to remove or legally cull invasive species and certain vermin. If you are sensitive to this, please let us know and we will try to avoid this during your stay. Our soil is virgin, north facing soil: Deep, dark, and soft, and best of all, organic! We create our soil and planting beds on site using mostly hands tools. We have much to learn and would like you to join us. Musicians are especially welcome (we often have Grateful Dead jam sessions and play music every day. We also have endless hiking trails from our backyard. There are 70 miles of trails in our community, right to our property. We have a large and growing agricultural reading library inside a wood working shop with a fireplace that looks out onto the garden. It's a great place to learn. There really are a ton of excellent books on site! We prefer short notice arrangements, ideally one week before your stay. Short term visits, weekend stays, and day visitors are welcome. Long term is not likely an option and is subject to availability after a successful short term visit or extensive application. It is difficult for us to plan out long visitors in advance, please check back closer to your desired visit and our calendar will be more accurately updated. We usually have wwoofers camp but we've built a whole WWOOF station with a kitchen, bathroom, shower, table, etc., so it's much more like glamping. We have a really nice tiny house which is reserved for a long stay WWOOFer or others if the weather turns bad. We eat meals together in the house and include WWOOFers on local outings like our nearby winery or going to the beach. Our diet is omnivore but if you have other preferences you are welcome, however, realize you may need to provide your own food if you don't choose to eat what we provide. We do our best to adjust to wwoofers but gluten free and vegan guests should plan to have their own supplements. If you like wine, there are two wineries within a mile and we have a membership at one that's on our same road for free tasting any time. Certifications: Organic Certified by the State of California Department of Agriculture Current projects: Direct seeding, transplanting, watering, weeding, composting, pruning and staking olive trees, enhancing wwoof Basecamp , art, building a bridge across Ravine, rock walls, aquaponics, tilapia raising, water works, etc. Internet access available Surfboards and ebikes available. Pets are welcome but dogs must be on a leash at all times and if they bark excessively or cause damage, you may be asked to leave early. We have two well trained dogs on site. Pet owners should be aware that coyotes and bobcats pass through the property daily. They have never bothered us or our pets and in fact they're great at keeping the vermin population under control, but please be aware of the safety concern for small pets. RV / campers. We are located on a mountain with small roads. Large RVs and trailers can't make it up the steep slope. Standard vans or small trailers less than 15 ft are fine.

Thank you soooo much Jared, Kim & family!! The Becks are the kindest family and I instantly felt welcome here. The farm is abundant and Jared has so much knowledge and experience to share, from veg/fruit farming to setting up irrigation with spring water to aquaponics to off-grid stuff. Being there in peak summer, I got to harvest tons of apricots, peaches, plums, heirloom tomatoes and lots of veggies and delivered them to the farm store down the road. Most of my work was watering, harvesting, weeding and planting. I got a really realistic view of the responsibility, labor and money that goes into farming and I'm really grateful for that! Kim and Jared are so generous and went above and beyond to provide excellent meals and accommodations. So grateful for my time here, highly recommend, thank you!!

My first WWOOF experience and a local opportunity to join them for one day! Jared was welcoming, helpful, informative, thoughtful, and responsive. The farm is lovely and it was great hearing about the hard work they did to get it where it is today. Every day is different I understand but I and another WWOOFer were able to help with some weeding, planting, and a little drip irrigation. I borrowed garden gloves because I hadn’t thought to bring any (seems like a newb mistake to me in retrospect). Chill, beautiful spot with great views, and I got some delightful carrots from their farm stand on the way home.

Jared and Kim were wonderful and kind hosts. Jared has so many stories and little nuggets of information about farming, his property, and life in general. Kim is very thoughtful and welcoming. I harvested potatoes, planted some crops, tilled a bed, helped out with various things like the water pump and aquaponics system, weeded, and weeded more :) Jared and Kim's property is beautiful with a great view. I would highly recommend wwoofing with Jared.

I was happy to get out of the desert and into the San Diego area. I was greeted with open arms, really good food, and ample work for my 8 days there. I got a full range of experiences from weeding and cultivating, to seeding, to planting, to clearing brush for fruit trees to be planted (lots of brush was cleared... you're welcome other wwoofers). It was great to have a cute common area to rest up and clear my head. They accommodated my gluten free diet. I'd happily venture back.

This was our first experience WWOOFing, and I can’t imagine a better one. The property is stunning, with great weather year round and a sweeping view of the hills. The farm uses regenerative practices, and the effort has paid off with beautiful soil. Jared’s background is in education, so he did a great job breaking it all down for us. We spent most of our 6 days weeding and seeding, which was so rewarding since the difference before and after was clear. Jared has set up many 5-star sleeping options for WWOOFers to feel at home, and the food was 3 Michelin stars! Most importantly, Jared and Kim are great people with tons of interesting stories. We connected with them on so many levels that it came to feel like we were spending the week with close friends who happened to share a passion for working their land. We got so much out of this experience and can’t wait to come back.
