We are a rural gardening venture with a variety of other projects in many areas. We currently do organic gardening that is centered around permaculture. We have some fruit trees, blueberries, and grape vines.
Located on the Cumberland Plateau near Ozone Falls, we are also centrally located between Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Nashville.
We are involved in a number of projects all of the time. This ranges from fence building, carpentry, concrete, tree felling, welding, masonry, and anything else that arises in our DIY environment.
We have plenty of space for tents in the forest, but our off-grid cabin will likely serve as accommodation for Wwoofers.
We cook a lot and are happy to entertain and share meals.
It is seldom that we hire anyone to handle things that we feel can be done on our own. It is with this idea of self-sufficiency that we welcome others with an adventurous spirit to help and learn.
We encourage people to stay with us who value open-mindedness, kindness and an appreciation for a life lived in nature.
Working hours will be dependent on what needs to be done and its urgency. Some days we may work continuously on one project but other times the work will be different each day as well as hours.
We like our work in part because we make it enjoyable. We work but take frequent breaks that may include meals, beer breaks, trips to our creek for a quick swim, etc.
Our intent is to make someone feel welcome, relaxed and appreciated and we show that through sharing meals, stories, kindness and laughter.
MEALS- Meals will vary, we do a lot of cooking through the week and want to share our food. The cabin we have has limited resources but will have certain amenities such as a WIFI connectivity and electricity for lighting, etc. While there is no refrigeration you will have access to our kitchen and its appliances and pantry.
HOUSING- The primitive off-grid cabin is located in the woods near our home. While it is primitive you will still have access to power to charge devices provide lighting, etc. You will plenty of space to park your car, hang your hammock and have a fire of your own.
TRANSPORTATION- We will be happy to transport you from the cabin to the our house and gardens as well as to our local grocery stores and anywhere else you may need to go. While here, you will have access to our UTV to help you get around the property. If you're arriving from an airport we have no problem picking you up.
WORK- While the work will vary on a day-to-day basis, examples of tasks we're currently working on include planting vegetables and flowers in multiple beds, tree trimming, brush work, trail building, feeding our chickens, masonry work, carpentry. In the future we plan on building a greenhouse and a barn for pigs. No previous experience required, but preferred. We have no minimum hour requirement on work hours, some days we will work for a couple of hours and then others you'll have time and entire days to yourself. Our work is very much project-driven. We will be happy to teach anyone who is interested in learning new things.
