Our tree farm is 45 acres, surrounded by national forest, on the edge of Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, CO. We welcome WWOOFers to our tree farm for a multitude of projects. **We are currently seeking two types of Wwoofers. We need someone (or a couple) who can build slash piles, and we need someone with chainsaw experience and wants to work hard. Much of our land is heavily loaded with dead and down trees. Our goals for land management are written by a Colorado State forester. To accomplish these goals we build and burn slash piles, cut down dead trees, and thin overgrown areas. We maintain our ability to live off the power grid. This includes flowing water from a naturally occurring spring to our cistern, cutting firewood and maintaining our fully off-grid power system (solar). For a work day, we would love a couple hours of your time (25 hours a week) and then want you to have an adventure exploring the area. Our favorite part of Wwoofing is having a communal table for three meals a day. We are carnivores, using our smoker and BBQ grill for tasty meals. We are unable to accommodate vegans, gluten-free, or vegetarians at this time. We have two rustic tent cabins with a queen bed in each, with an outhouse (in the summer). In the winter and summer, we have a shared bunk style accommodation, with heat, above the garage and composting outhouse. Our two Bernese Mountain Dogs provide "security." Organic methods: We produce mulch from our horses, along with compost to use around our property to bring up the organic matter in our soils. We harvest mushrooms on our property and recently mulched a lot of our slash piles to propagate oyster mushrooms for harvesting through the "cold fire project." Certifications: There have never been chemicals used on our property, but we are not certified organic Current projects: Building slash piles from previously cut wood. If you have a chainsaw, we are always cutting standing dead and blown down trees. You may be asked to feed and pet the dogs and Mustangs. Internet access available

We can pick up Wwoofers from Denver International Airport, or locations in the front range (Boulder/Longmont/Fort Collins/Loveland). We are a few miles from town, however, and a car is handy but not mandatory.

Michelle and George are truly some of the kindest, most down to earth, welcoming people you could ask for! This was my first WWOOF experience and it definitely set the bar. Michelle and George are so hospitable and kind and I enjoyed spending so much time with them! Michelle invited us to helping her with so many aspects of the farm, from building slash piles, caring for the sweetest and spunkiest horses (Desi and Mo!) , feeding the humming birds, and playing with JC and Piper, the sweetest Bernese mountain dogs you'll ever meet! The work was so rewarding and had the most amazing views, and it was so amazing to be in the heart of Estes so close to so many beautiful hikes and sights. Not to mention that Michelle and George know how to COOK! We had the most amazing meals and shared so many wonderful conversations and laughs around the table. This is a special place, and I am so grateful to have been able to visit <3 I hope to be back again soon!

Michelle and George (and Piper and Jaci and Modoc and Desi!!) are amazing to be around and learn from- they are so cool and smart and fun, we loved every minute of being at this place!! The food is exceptional and the views are gorgeous and the work is really fun, although hard work, it's rewarding and feels good to do! We can't wait to be back and would 1000% recommend a stay here to anyone and everyone

Michelle and George welcomed me with such open arms. I am so grateful for their generosity, kindness, and consideration. My mom traveled to Colorado with me and they opened their home to her as well and we had the most magical time together, I am forever grateful for those memories. I learned all about baking sourdough which was a huge dream of mine and Michelle sent me with some discard to start my own! Creating the slash and burn piles is hard work, but it's therapeutic to be surrounded by the forest with the gorgeous mountains in the distance. The dogs Jaci and Piper are so incredibly sweet and loving, and it was fun to watch Michelle with Modock the stallion :) I am sooo glad this was my first WWOOFing experience and cannot recommend it enough!

Our time here was truly amazing! Michelle and George welcomed us into their awesome home and spoiled us with the most delicious meals and great chats. The property is beautiful and the accommodation has the best views ever. We both really enjoyed the work, which included fire mitigation (chopping/limbing trees and creating slash piles), digging drains for the horse pen, and setting up a water pipe. Michelle and George were flexible with when we worked and genuinely wanted us to get out and explore the area (which we did, and loved). We initially wanted to Wwoof to meet local people and have a non-touristy experience, and this place delivered, and then some. We feel really lucky to have met such great people and to have been treated so well, and hopefully one day we’ll be back! We would 100% recommend Wwoofing here to anyone.
