We are located in the heart of the Teton Range bordered by national forest and BLM lands. The 150 acres is a fifth generation homestead ranch that has been operational since 1888.
The ranch is 6 miles from Grand Targhee Resort, Alta, Wyoming; 40 miles from Jackson Hole, WY; 90 miles from Yellowstone National Park and 45 miles to Grand Teton National Park.
Activities include sightseeing, hiking, fishing, rock climbing, biking, river rafting, canoeing and water sports.
Currently we are raising Alpha hay as the major crop on the ranch.
Additionally we grow raspberries, red currents, honey berries, goji berries, gooseberries, rhubarb, asparagus, apples, and cherries. Seasonal planting includes beets, carrots, beans, peas, squash, onions and garlic.
There is an extensive organic vegetable garden and Greenhouse. We grow tomato and cucumber in the greenhouse and also some greens like basil, arugula, lettuce, radish, chard, and herbs.

LENGTH OF STAY:
WE ARE CURRENTLY looking for WWoofers to join us for one to six week sessions in 2025. We would require at least a one week stay and would accept 3-weeks to a month depending on goals, skills and compatibility.
DATES NEEDED: We would like WWOOFERS to be available
May 1 - June 30th - August 1- October 1, 2025. We take a break for the month of July
WORK: At the RANCH we work four or five days a week (4 supervised five-hour shifts plus a few hours) for a total of 25 hours per week. In addition each of us work three hours per week on chores or individual ranch projects. We work efficiently and intensely with only one break so that we can finish our work in this very short amount of time.
Some of the WORK at the RANCH is physically demanding (digging, sawing, using a wood splinter), some is tedious (weeding, path making, hand digging and cultivation of gardens), and some requires skill-development and careful attention to detail (construction, restoration projects, irrigation & seasonal maintenance).
A TYPICAL WORK DAY at the RANCH has us waking up semi-early for chores and meal preparation, eating breakfast on our own, then meeting for an overview of the day's plan. We may weed gardens or pull seed heads from ranch property for an hour or more, then begin individual or small group projects such as adding compost to gardens, clean up, planting the in ground
garden, working in the greenhouse, wood gathering, and small construction projects. After work we eat lunch together or separately. In the afternoon and evening and on our days off we do our chores and ranch projects.
ACCOMMODATIONS:
WWOOFERS will be staying in the homestead house, which is a 2 bedroom one bath with wood burning stove as heat source.
Also available is a detached cabin, which would share the kitchen and bath with the main house
No smoking or drinking alcohol will be allowed on property.
TRANSPORTATION: Must provide own transportation during stay.
Pick up & Drop off at airport could be arranged from Idaho Falls Idaho (IDA) or Jackson Hole, WY (JAC)

MEALS: Meal & menu planning will be provided for 3 meals per day. WWOOFERS must be able to cook for themselves in the kitchen provided in the homestead house. The kichen should be cleaned and organized after each meal preparation. Dishes done and no food left on counters or table. Weather permitting we enjoy bonfire dinners at our beautiful fire pit where we may enjoy a meal together.
FOOD: We will provide you with basic staple foods from which you will prepare meals for yourself. We do not generally provide snack or junk foods but instead provide the healthy basics such as dried beans, oats, rice, meat, cheese, vegetables, bread, nuts, vegetables, and fruits.
FOR THE 2025 YEAR we will be encouraging our volunteers to work a one to six weeks and then take a three or four day vacation to a national park or other area of interest in Wyoming, Idaho or Montana. We are in close proximity to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.
OUR SEASON: Alta, Wyoming has approximately 90 frost-free days (from 15 June to 15 September). March through May we are starting seeds, preparing garden beds and working on construction projects. In April & May we are planting our gardens, tending trees, and landscaping projects. September through October we are harvesting, saving seeds, preserving vegetables for the winter, still weeding and removing seed heads, planting more perennials, preparing gardens for spring, and still working on construction and landscaping projects.
WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE FOLLOWING CHARACTERISTICS OF VOLUNTEERS:
1) Come prepared to really work (not only, for instance, to see Wyoming or get a free place to stay for a few months); 2) they enjoy hard work; 3) they know what ranch and homesteading work entails.
