17 acre farm and homestead with pasture, woods, trails
Georgia
Greystone Farm used to be a small horse farm. I've sold the horse operation and am now concentrating on developing a small homestead using as many permaculture ideas as I can. I keep chickens. And sometimes turkeys and guineas. I breed Buckeye chickens (only breed developed in the US by a woman). I have also raised pigs on pasture and recently acquired a couple of goats.
I practice permaculture wherever possible. So far there are mushroom logs and beds, asparagus, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, fig and pear trees and a couple of hügelkultur beds. Clara, a former wwoofer-turned permanent resident mostly manages the small greenhouse and garden, but we need help maintaining what is already here as well as help expanding the edible landscape.
I know a little bit about a lot of things: sewing; natural dyeing; foraging wild edibles & medicinal plants; making tinctures, salves and soap; basic carpentry; turning vines and invasive plants into baskets and trellises are a few.
I'm a self-taught somewhat-capable carpenter and always have the next project in mind. A treehouse? Outdoor shower? Shed with solar roof? Help me decide! I'm happy to have you work on something that matches your interests. Building skills are a plus, but not necessary.
Location: rural but being encroached upon by suburbia. Near Between, GA, which is about 10 minutes from both Monroe and Loganville, GA, and about 45 minutes from both Atlanta and Athens, Georgia.
Accommodations: I am looking for wwoofers who travel with their own campers. My house is a cramped 800 square feet and there's no room for guests to sleep in the house. My first couple of wwoofers arrived with their own campers and I found that I loved the idea of visitors to the farm having their own sleeping accommodations. I am comfortable sharing the washer/dryer and occasionally sharing the bathroom. I am happy to provide food if you truly put in 20 hours a week, but I do not cook meals every day, so you will have to be happy cooking for yourself. Camping on the land and/or building your own micro home is an option. I have excellent sources for local foods and of course can accommodate special dietary requirements.
Expectations: I'm 70 and slowing down physically and prefer to spend only about 3-4 hours a day working. I will expect 3-5 hours/day 2-4 days a week from you, more if you are experienced and can work on your own unsupervised. I'm pretty flexible and happy to design a schedule that balances your interests with the needs of the farm. You will have a combination of helping me with projects and working independently. If you have your own ideas, please know that I enjoy encouraging and enabling others as they work on a project of their own design.
Bonus: I've been lucky to get to know lots of homesteaders and farmers who live near me. I am active in 2 local women's homesteading groups that meet monthly to learn and share ideas. I sometimes help out with projects on other farms/homesteads, often taking wwoofers with me so they can experience another way of doing things. If there's something you would like to learn that I do not practice on my farm, I am confident I will know someone who can teach you and am happy for you to take time out to visit other farms.
I'm extremely flexible about length of stay, pets, children, etc. Please explain your situation and let's see if we are a good fit.
Methods: Hügelkultur, permaculture.
Certifications: I use organic practices; this is a small homestead, not a production farm so I am not interested in becoming a certified organic farm.
Current projects: Caring for chickens, guineas, turkes and goats as well as building predator-proof accommodations for them. Planting/managing small garden and greenhouse, adding eddible landscaping (blueberries, figs, strawberries, etc), mushroom cultivation, electric fencing, and building projects (shed, camping platform, outhouse/shower, re-doing the firepit) as well as woodland and pasture management.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is 50 miles (about an hour drive) away. Greyhound Bus Lines and Amtrak (train) go to downtown Altanta. MARTA, Atlanta's local bus and train system will get you within 30 miles of my farm.

We are a French family and We spend a nice week with Pam. Pam is a very nice person. We cut wood and plant strawberries. Pam live in a cool place. We were lucky to see an Armadillo and a turtle. It was a nice week for the children also, who helped us.
We would loved to come back to Pam.
Merci beaucoup
