15-acre homestead B&B in Northern Michigan wine country. Nature. Homesteading. Yoga.
Michigan
Our land is a natural landscape nestled among the rolling hills and fresh waters of Leelanau County. A smallish (15 acre) hobby and horse farm, intentionally crafted as a labor of love to lay foundation for mindful connection opportunities in appreciation of yoga, nature, and community. Rōming Roost is a hybrid Bed and Breakfast and Homestead for those who seek to rōm, rest, and renew. We are located in Suttons Bay, Mi. 1/2 mile from the infamous Tart Trail biking system. 3.7 miles from the village of Suttons Bay and 10 miles to Traverse City. Our community is rich in farming (mostly cherries and apples), fresh water, conservation land and love. We are 20 minutes from Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore and a stones throw from a plethora of wineries and cider houses.
This homestead is a family affair. We are a faith focused family. Myself my husband, our three kids (who are home schooled) three dogs, two cats, two horses and many chickens, are the stewards of this land, learning as we grow. We are first generation farmers, on organic soil, and are trying our best to let the Earth and Mother Nature guide us. We have a 20X70 garden with a mix of raised beds and in the Earth planting. We plant mostly from seed and grow the foods that we love to eat and share. We do have a farm stand to sell from, but we also use the foods for breakfast offerings for our B&B guests. We have a flock of about 30 free range chickens who so graciously share their eggs with us. We have Bed and Breakfast units on property, this is where WWOOFERS stay when we do not have B&B guests. Our goal is to build out a dedicated space just for WWOOFERS, with do time.
We are flexible on length of stay for our WWOOFers, between three nights and 8 weeks for the months of April -October. We welcome our WWOOFers as one of the family, but they would need to be comfortable with children and animals (our kids are 6-13 years old). WWOOFING days are spent tending to with our hobby farm (garden, animals, farm stand) as well as greeting guests and various day to day duties of our B&B.
Special projects for the 2026 season include: Trail maintenance, WWOOF accommodation project, drip irrigation for garden, tea and soap making, river garden for pollinators, and getting the farm stand rocking!
A car would be needed, but we can hook you up with a bike. Living accommodations would have a private bathroom and private entrance in a loft space (one of our B&B spaces) but would share kitchen and laundry in the main house. The options are endless for things to do on days off. SUP, beaching, hiking, anything water, tons of eateries. If you have a connection with nature, this is your place. If a WWOOFER has self contained housing (their own camper) stay dates are more flexible, other wise we are working around our B&B season.
Organic methods: are land is on a previous orchard that was not farmed for 11 years prior to our purchase so the soil itself back to it's organic state. we to not use any pesticides or chemicals. As first generation farmers and lovers of the Earth we are learning as we grow and letting the soils and land guide us in our farming endeavors. We grow all plants and veggies from organic seed. use mulching. We are looking into cover cropping. Our soil is from our own compost, manure mulch and other organic fertilizers from local sources. We are currently working on companion planting, and will be working toward succession planting to best use our space.
Certifications: We are not certified for cost reasons and not relying on government entities anymore than absolutely necessary.

This was such a wonderful first WWOOFing experience!! I had the opportunity to stay with Kristen + family and learn so much from each of them on their beautiful homestead. Kristen was very communicative and clear on what the day’s tasks were and provided endless guidance along the way. This homestead provides the perfect place for a reset. I got to work with my hands, take care of the sweet animals, and learn many new skills.
We fed the animals, groomed the horses, had a yoga session, did trail maintenance, moved dirt and hay, laid compost, made tea bags and bone broth, and so much more. They were also so gracious to give me ample time to explore the surrounding areas and gave loads of awesome recommendations. Not to mention that the accommodation was more than fantastic and the meals were even better. This family does a great job at balancing work and play as it was such a joy to hang out with the 3 kids and truly feel that child-like spark again. We even had a routine of tea time (almost) every night where we had great conversations and so so many laughs. I’ve come away from this experience with so much more than learning how to work on a homestead— they genuinely made me feel like part of the family with each meal we shared and even a trip to the beach for a cold (and I mean cold) plunge.
I feel truly honored to have had this experience with a family that values togetherness, hard work, communication, playfulness, and sincerity. I could go on and on, so I’ll stop he...

I had the best day at Rōming Roost farm! Kristen was super accommodating to my busy work schedule and let me WWOOF for just one day. It was probably the best day of my summer. Spending time on the farm felt like play for me. It was so relaxing to get in touch with nature while tending to the garden. The kids were very fun to work with and there was a good balance of structure and freedom. There was so much love for their animals and appreciation for the world. I would highly recommend this farm to anyone considering it.

This is a sanctuary tucked away on the Leelanau Peninsula.
The homestead feels tucked away from space and time but is only 20 minutes or so from Traverse City.
The founding is made up of Kristen, Shaun, their three lovely kids, horses, chickens and dogs are a pleasure to be around.
This was my first Wwoof ever and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From beginning to end expectations and arrangements were clear.
I couldn’t have asked for a better host family. They truly welcomed me with open arms and will hold a special place in my heart forever.
The work is reasonable and the accommodations are truly top end. Working closely with such a capable and beautiful family was an absolute pleasure. I learned so much in such a short time.
This is a perfect place for someone looking to connect and have a wholesome experience. A place for authenticity and play, this will leave you feeling held and reset.
This family is a reminder good humans exist in this world and community is still possible even as the world ebbs and flows around us.
Each family member is a diligent steward of their land and take great joy in teaching you their ways.

I had a lovely short stay at this adorable family farm/B&B! Kristen and her family were so warm and welcoming in sharing their home, meals, and daily life that by the end of the second day, I felt as if I was visiting with family or friends. I really enjoyed planting trees, doing a bit of trail work, feeding the animals (and chasing a loose chicken on the last morning), and packing tea bags, seed packets, and soaps with the family. The collaborative approach to all of those tasks made the experience feel especially meaningful and rewarding. The accommodations were comfortable, too! I highly recommend this host if you're looking for a farm in the area.

Having only spent four days there, we left with memories to cherish for life. Their family is so inviting, supportive, and filled with love. The whole family, including children, were very knowledgeable on everything homesteading. We were able to have our own private area when we needed time for ourselves but also were close enough to run over with any questions or a good talk.
The stay felt more like visiting family and helping out around the property than it did work. The work we did in the mornings was fun and a fantastic learning experience. We went in early spring so was able to help with preparing the bed of the garden, taking care of animals (such as chickens and horses), and getting ready for guests to come in the summer season to their bed and breakfast.
We had plenty of time in the afternoons to visit nearby towns and look at the beautiful water / scenery. There were many options of things to do in the free time whether it was on property by foot, bike or car.
Overall we left with very happy stomachs and hearts! I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!

I had such a wonderful stay here! Kirsten and her family were incredibly welcoming and so much fun to be around. The farm itself is absolutely beautiful—peaceful, full of charm, and clearly cared for with love. Kirsten’s knowledge and passion for what they do really shine through in every part of the experience. I left feeling inspired, refreshed, and already wanting to come back!
