Hello! I've lived on this wonderful spot for over 30 years, just outside of Fort Collins, CO. Our property is just shy of an acre. We have an organic garden, a small orchard (apples, peaches), and we raise chickens (16 currently). We have just enough chickens to sell eggs during non-winter months informally to friends to pay for food and to have eggs for ourselves all year long. We've raised pigs in the past, although we don't have any concrete plans to get more this year. We have a wonderful livestock guardian dog named Wesley who keeps the whole thing going. The chicken run needs some work, and I want to move some fencing around. Our main need right now is weeding. We have an infestation of leafy spurge, which we mitigating with bio control (mostly flea beetles). In the meantime, we need to keep it contained, so we are pulling weeds at property lines so it won't spread. I'm also open to ideas to make the land/space more sustainable. I'm a master gardener and I have a permaculture design certificate. I'm currently auditing the PDC course (with Starhawk and Charles Williams) just as a refresher, and I'm continuously learning new ways to work with the land and with people. Our home is LGBTQIA+ friendly! Because most of the work on our land will involve heavy equipment, children will not be a good fit. Pets also would not work. I'm looking for a 2 week stay, but I'm open to longer or shorter. Single folks or couples are both welcome. I have a van that I rarely drive, and I'm happy to let you take it on your days off. We are close to the Poudre Canyon for access to camping and hiking, and there are lots of additional outdoor options, depending on your interests. Rocky Mountain National Park is also fairly close. I can provide food for a variety of dietary needs, and I'm happy to cook most meals while you are here. Looking forward to working together! Thanks so much for reading! Organic methods: We use crop rotation, heavy mulching, companion planting, regenerative practices. We don't till. We integrate animals that are happy together (chickens and a livestock guardian dog), and we utilize the chicken's poop for manure. We harvest our own chickens as they get too old to lay, and use them for bone broth. Certifications: We have a small farm that is for our consumption only. Internet access available

Cheryl is a great host - welcoming, an amazing cook, and full of knowledge. We enjoyed our time helping on her small, but beautiful piece of land doing things like weeding, mulching, trimming trees, and drying apples. Cheryl is a great person and we found it easy to be around her. She also lent us bikes to explore Fort Collins. Overall, we had a wondering experience at Sunset House.

This was my first WOOF experience and I don't think I could have asked for a better time. Cheryl is a sweetheart and took excellent care of me. I'll be thinking about chard pastries for the rest of my life! For those curious what days are like as a WWOOFer here I'll give a brief rundown. This is a small acreage farm laid out on a strip, with the front half being the house and flower/ pollinator gardens. As you continue further back you come into the vegetable garden, the chicken coop, and eventually a small orchard. All my activities revolved around gardening since that's where the greatest need was. There are chickens on the property as well as a dog, Willow the livestock guardian. I came in early June so there was a big focus on planting and weeding. It's a lively place and I met a lot of great people during my stay. If you're lucky you may even get to hear some local music. I was flexible with sleeping arrangements, but for the most part had my own bed and space. It wasn't a problem for me, but the sleeping area doesn't have a door so be mindful of that if that's a priority for you and you plan to stay.

This is such an epic place. So much stuff happnin! Chryl is a dope host, so much love and understanding happening. Chryl's a brilliant cook, yumy food. A very accepting environment. We had lots of epic conversations and experiences. Loved hangin' out with chyrl's dope housemates (learning about their lives), Wesley the livestock guardian dog (such a big fuzzy bro), the various cats wandering around, and the chickens of course (they're so funny). While i was there i filtered compost, layed down mulch for the trees, cleaned the chicken coup, fixed some fencing, built some roosting boxes. The bedroom is cozy :) Loved gettin pulled along for some of the events that were happenin.

Hello inquirers! I have visited multiple times! My partner and I have stayed a few days and we just spent our first overnight stay! Cheryl is absolutely amazing! I could have asked nothing more from this beautiful home! She makes wonderful food and she is more than just kind, she is understanding, and she loves to get to know you! Cheryl does an amazing job at making you feel welcome in her home and she does an excellent job at communicating! This house is very LGBTQIA+ friendly so don’t hesitate because of your identity to come and visit these wonderful people! Cheryl lives with some housemates that we also got to meet and they are all nice and unique in their own ways. While my partner and I stayed here we cleared out some of her land from overgrown trees and shrubs, filled holes that the stump grinder left behind, and cleaned out chicken coops! Since we came during the off season there isn’t much yet to do with the vegetable garden or the orchard BUT we will be coming back to visit when everything begins to sprout! We couldn't have asked for a better first experience than here filled with conversations, laughter, and new experiences! A big thank you to Cheryl, her housemates, the guard dog Wesley, the indoor cat Roxanne, and the chickens:)

I had a wonderful time at Sunset House. Cheryl was very kind in regards to everything, and she was a lovely conversationalist. I had a lot of engaging work that really made me feel immersed in the farm life, as well as teaching me a natural way of applying my effort. Cheryl's housemates were also great to talk to. I had a lot of good conversations, and everyone was very gracious. I highly recommend a visit to Sunset House. Ft Collins is a great town, and I am glad I got the chance to visit. Thank you Cheryl!
