The most common way for guests to arrive at Sven's Place is by a 5 mile bicycle ride from either the Green Pond or Bay Lake trailheads of the James Van Fleet State Park. We have a nice time of year now in the early summer the amphibians are in full effect and it's getting wet, if you enjoy getting dirty and working hard we have space for you.

We had a great time! It was our 1st WWOOF experience and we would definitely go back. We really enjoyed all the animals and the serenity of the farm. Work was relaxed and Henry was a great host.

I enjoyed a weekend adventure on Henry’s farm, where I helped dissemble a small chicken coop and helped finish construction of a new, larger Poultry Habitat. Henry was warm and welcoming, as were the many animals who live on the farm. I was amazed by the delicious food cooked with only a simple hot plate. I rode on the tractor, but not on Kurt the mule, who was a fascinating figure; a highlight of my visit. Nov. is the perfect time to visit Florida- we enjoyed beautiful weather. I highly recommend the experience to others. 😀

Even though my time here was brief, clarity had the proper grounds to take shape. Inside the property, woods surround you in every direction, with many of Henry’s animals roaming around freely, filling the space with an almost tangible, electric hum of life. I never would have guessed that a donkey (Kurt) among other animals could have possessed such a hold over my heart. The animals are magnificent, the land healing, and the labor freeing. Henry is undoubtedly a gem, and for the right person (clarify if this is you over a phone call), I easily would recommend this experience 10/10.

Henry Dear Henry! I had an amazing experience at your place from bike riding to working your road and of course the water pump! Your place is simply amazing and glad to hear the gardens I planted are serving you well and may get to try the fruits of my labor! I am so very grateful to have spent so much time at your place and absolutely love and miss the solitude and hearing "foods ready" every night haha I miss you guys already! My buddy Kurt, Medusa and Olga. Sven, Kermit and man I was just getting close to Joy....love and miss you all so very much and seriously looking forward to coming back again! I miss those bike rides too! Not so much the flies tho!!! Haha Henry your an amazingly awesome person thanks for the experience! Molly Muppet misses her buddies as well! We will see you again soon! I very much enjoyed my time at this place! Henry doesn't lie, it's hard to get to, you will get dirty, and there is plenty of hard manual labor to do. I borrowed sleeping gear and enjoyed seeing a beautiful night sky with minimal light pollution. Henry is a very considerate host who catered activities to my interests and abilities. He's a great conversationalist and very knowledgeable on his work. I learned a lot from working with him! I was there for a weekend. Some of our activities included stump removal, brush clearing, riding the horses and donkey, chores, and alligator reconnaissance. It was a very positive experience and a good get-away that was refreshing for both my body and my mind.

I very much looking forward to going back to this farm. I got what I wanted: I just quit several years of a high pressure, high authority position that was mostly inside. As a complete change, I wanted to go to a REMOTE place and spend hours doing filthy, sweaty, hard labor in the hot sun. There were several types of labor available at this site, but my favorite part was using a pick mattock and an ax to remove tree stumps and roots (some roots as thick as my arm) from a piece of land Henry wants to turn to pasture. Felt SO good lifting those tools high above my head, slamming them down with force and accuracy to smash my target, and then the sense of accomplishment when dragging brush to the ever-increasing pile. Since the cell phone coverage is awful anyway, and since you are surrounded by nature, use this as chance to do an electronic detox: LEAVE THE CELL PHONE AT HOME. Maybe tell your family that if there’s an emergency, call Henry. Henry (owner) is a nice guy and grills great burritos. Anyone going, I recommend: sunscreen, lots of insect repellant, two pairs of work boots (I was glad I did, because with the humidity it took a day for each pair to dry if I got them wet) and a very sturdy pair of sandals. And…….you will get filthy. It was awesome!
