Sustainable homestead on 31 acres with 30+ waterfalls nearby
South Carolina
💠 Welcome to Our Farm 💠
Our farm was purchased in 2016 with a clear intention: to grow tea (Camellia sinensis) and other marketable crops within a regenerative, education-centered system—and to do it slowly, thoughtfully, and well.
We live on 31 acres surrounding a home built in 1907. About 15 acres are open pasture, and the rest is hardwood forest—quiet, shady, and full of life. It’s a place where you can work with your hands in the morning and take a reflective walk in the woods afterward.
Even though a major agricultural university is less than five miles away, this place feels wonderfully removed from town life.
💠 Forests, Water & Rest 💠
Beyond our property are thousands of acres of protected university forest. There are more than 30 waterfalls within an hour’s drive, three within five minutes, and at least one within walking distance.
Seasonally, WWOOFers are also welcome to enjoy our heated saltwater pool—a favorite way to unwind after a morning of good work.
💠 How We Farm 💠
✅ Our farming practices are rooted in care, observation, and stewardship of God’s creation. Organic principles, permaculture design, and regenerative methods guide everything we do.
✅ We don’t spray pesticides or insecticides. Instead, we rely on:
🔹compost and soil building
🔹mulching, chop-and-drop, and polycultures
🔹biological and mechanical solutions
We love explaining why something works—not just asking you to do it.
💠 What You’ll Be Helping With 💠
Work here changes with the seasons, but WWOOFers often help with:
🔹Tea leaf harvesting, withering, rolling, and processing
🔹Seed collection, germination, potting, and planting
🔹Garden and orchard care (weeding, watering, mulching)
🔹Composting and soil improvement
🔹Caring for animals (dog, cats, chickens)
🔹Nursery and shade-structure work
🔹Harvesting fruits, vegetables, and herbs
🔹Food preservation projects when timing allows
Many of the projects you’ll touch are about building for the future, not just quick results.
Work can include bending, lifting, repetitive motions, and working in heat or humidity, depending on the season.
💠 Learning Is Part of the Work 💠
This is a place for people who enjoy learning by doing. WWOOFers here are often curious about:
🔹Tea cultivation from plant to cup
🔹Permaculture guilds and perennial systems
🔹Regenerative soil practices
🔹Beekeeping basics and seasonal hive care
🔹Orchard pruning and long-term crop planning
🔹Fermentation, baking, and food preservation
You’ll work inside systems that already exist—and help shape what’s coming next.
✅ We provide careful training and clear explanations, and we encourage growing independence as you learn the systems.
💠 Length of Stay 💠
Minimum stay: 2 weeks
✅ Ideal stay: At least one month
(Longer stays are always welcome; a month really allows you to settle in.)
💠 What We Value 💠
✅ A positive attitude
✅ A willingness to learn and ask questions
✅ Comfort working outdoors
✅ Typical schedule: about 30 hours/week, usually 6am–12pm
This is real farm work—but it’s paired with real care and real conversation.
💠 Food & Living Arrangements 💠
✅ We cook a communal main meal weekdays around noon
✅ Private Tiny Houses with hot water, A/C & heat
✅ Washer/dryer in garage; Wi-Fi available
✅ Farm produce and staple foods are provided
You prepare your own breakfast and dinner during the week and weekends
Grocery stores are just five minutes away if you want specialty items
⚠️ House Guidelines
Adults only
No pets
No smoking, no drugs
✅ We offer a calm, respectful environment for adults who want to learn, contribute, and grow.
This may not be the best fit for people seeking a party atmosphere or a vacation-style stay.
💠 One Last Thought 💠
The best matches here are people who come ready to participate, learn, and be present. If that sounds like you, we’d be delighted to welcome you.
Warmly,
Nanelyn

I had a great stay at Nanelyn and Ken’s place! They are so generous with their time and resources. Nanelyn loves teaching, which is great for learning how and why you are doing tasks rather than just doing them. I learned about permaculture, tea, trees, plants, and chickens from Nanelyn, and about tools and small property improvement projects from Ken, among many other things! It was my first time WWOOFing and I was a bit worried about not having any experience and possibly messing things up, but Nanelyn encouraged us to try and to learn from making mistakes.
I also enjoyed meeting people from their wonderful community, who were likewise generous with their time. When Nanelyn got sick while we were there, I saw many of her friends and neighbors pitch in to bring food and help out in other ways. They even came and gave lessons to us WWOOFers on different things, such as soil health, bread-making, and chainsaw use.
I would recommend this farm to anyone wanting to meet some nice people and learn about hospitality and permaculture!

I came to learn more about gardening
I left knowing more about life
Would recommend to anyone who wants to learn about the principals of gardening and permaculture, managing a small farm, or hospitality. The lovely folks who own this farm are at the center of a vibrant community, if you're open & willing to give of yourself there is no better place to WWOOF!

This was my first experience with WWOOF and I can’t say enough positive things. I am so grateful for the experience. Nanelynn and Ken were such perfect hosts. They made me feel welcomed from the moment I pulled up to their beautiful property. I came expecting to work hard in exchange for housing and farming experience, but Nanelynn gave me so much more in my time spent there. She was patient, and took her time teaching me all about canning, pickling, bread making, and the principles of permaculture. She went out of her way to make sure that the books and education she provided was the knowledge and experience that I was seeking for my particular future endeavors. Part of my daily routine was caring for Bella, their sweet German Shepherd, their two farm cats, and all the beautiful chickens. Watering, weeding, and bee keeping were also included in the daily activities. We would sit down each afternoon to eat the most wonderfully prepared meals, for fellowship and to discuss the day’s chores. The tiny house they put me in was perfectly equipped for my needs in my month-long stay. In my free time, I hiked, explored waterfalls, and enjoyed all the beautiful culture in northwest South Carolina.
When I first arrived, Nanelynn told me her mission statement: Love God and love people. By the time I left, I had no question that she is fully fulfilling her mission.

Angela was a total powerhouse during her stay at our farm in August 2024.
Coming from the heat of Florida, she didn’t flinch at our humid Upstate summer — in fact, she’d jump in the saltwater pool to cool off and then get right back to work. What? Her six hours were up? Angela doesn't know when to quit. But did know how to rest. Smart gal!
She tackled weeding, harvesting, tea care, animal chores, and compost work with the drive of a racehorse and the reliability of a Swiss watch. Always asking “What’s next?” she brought serious hustle, good humor, and a no-nonsense work ethic that made her an absolute dream to host.
Angela wasn’t here to philosophize — she was here to move, help, build, and do. And wow, did she do. We’d welcome her back anytime and wholeheartedly recommend her to any WWOOF host who appreciates stamina, smarts, and someone who gets the job done and then asks for more.
🔥 Thank you, Angela — you raised the bar.

December 2023
I wwoofed here from Oct.-Dec. 2023. I plan to continue for a few more months. Evidently, I thoroughly enjoyed the farm.
I heard horror stories about hosts taking advantage of wwoofers. Worry not. The farm host, Nanelyn, wants her wwoofers to achieve their wwoofing objectives. She also wants the farm to bless wwoofers (e.g., she encouraged me to enjoy the flowers, interact with the animals, try/experiment with plants).
My tasks were a combination of routine activities (e.g., tending plants and animals) & projects like herb/vegetable processing, seed saving, & breadmaking. Being a teacher at heart, Nanelyn encouraged us to find ways that accomplished the work faster/easier. She assured it’s ok to make mistakes. Nanelyn also took time to sit down with us, explain & answer my many questions. I love how she is very humble & open to suggestions from wwoofers too. She taught through principles, concepts that are transferable to other situations beyond the farm.
The farm is relatively young. Nevertheless, this experience was very productive for me as I was trying to get an overview what farm life is like, how to begin farming & how to combine farming with another job. Accommodations are amazing. Nanelyn provided all food and supplies (& books!) for my comfy stay. But more than these, she made sure I felt loved. I especially experienced this when I got sick in the farm and got stung by bees. She gave me meds, fruits & lots of care.
Super Thanks again Nanelyn!

Melanie was an absolute gift to have at our Farm.
She brought an incredible combination of discipline, curiosity, and humility to everything she did — whether tending plants and animals, processing herbs and seeds, learning breadmaking, or experimenting with new ways to do farm tasks more efficiently. She was always thinking: not just “How do I do this?” but “How does this connect to something bigger?”
Melanie is a thoughtful and reflective learner, but also a doer. She worked with consistency and care — showing up day after day with questions, good ideas, and a willingness to try and was ok with failing, knowing it is an important part of the process. She brought great energy to our WWOOFer group, was respectful and collaborative, and constantly sought to understand not just how the farm worked, but why we do things the way we do.
She also shared feedback and observations that have continued to shape how we teach and onboard others. I appreciated her initiative, her gentleness, and her sincerity — and her genuine desire to bless the farm as much as the farm blessed her.
We would welcome Melanie back anytime and enthusiastically recommend her to any host who values a WWOOFer who brings both intention and action.
🌿 With gratitude,
Nanelyn
