30 acre beach property in Mapulehu Molokai. Learn to hunt and gather Hawaiian style. Help grow and supply a fruit stand as farm expansion continues. You will have an opportunity to hunt, fish, dive and gather some of the best foods in the world as you learn our culture. Here respect, humility and kindness rule, NOT Money! We are one of the last places where the tribe is still in control of the island. Organic methods: All organic using fish wastes and available organic material. Much of the land is wetlands and a old hawaiian fish pond. The soil is rich with worms and rotting materials and have needed any added fertilizer to date. Certifications: certification not necessary Current projects: Currently expanding the banana patch and planting more papayas. Everyday there are fruit and citrus to pick to stock a fruit stand. Planting more passion fruit and pineapples along with avocados (grafting more breeds). We are expanding the bee farm and constantly harvesting honey. Internet access available

One airport here in Hoolehua, Molokai. We have a bus service that comes right to the property.

I spent one month with Ames on his property and the experience has left me humbled, recharged and overflowing with gratitude. Ames is an incredibly generous person with a wealth of knowledge of the environment, the people, and the history of this very sacred place. The more effort and initiative you show, the more you will be rewarded with endless opportunities! You should be comfortable around animals (dogs, cats, sheep, goats, chickens, etc.), be flexible with a shifting daily flow, and capable of living rustically. However the chance to be immersed in local life, forage/harvest fruit and vegetables, work with bees, eat fresh caught fish and meat over an open fire, sleep right next to the ocean with the sound of the waves and endless stargazing, makes this place an absolute privilege to experience! Aside from some essentials that are listed in other reviews, please come with respect, a good sense of humor, and an open mind. Mahalo Ames 🙏🏻

My experience with Ames was eye opening. I got to experience life on Moloka’i. I got to connect, and spend time with the locals, which were of some of the most beautiful people I’ve met in my entire life. The life long connections I made while on the island I wouldn’t trade for the world. As for food accommodations, we were provided 1 meal a day, 5 days a week. The lunches Ames would make were fantastic. But I’ll Say, I was quite hungry, during most of my stay. And had to heavily rely on groceries, which on the island are very costly, and indeed did, add up. You’ll be going to get them quite a bit. On top of that, the bus, rarely comes on time, and doesn’t run past 3:30 pm Monday-Friday. On sauterdays, it runs till 11:15 am, and doesn’t run on Sundays. Having such little windows to catch and bus and go get groceries or go to the farmers market (which was only on sauterdays) was a bit challenging, but doable. The camp site, does not have any electricity, so bring a portable charger etc. to charge your portable etc, you’ll have to walk to Ames’s house which is a 10 minute walk down the road. Ames loves to crack jokes and make delicious lunches. Keep hard at work and don’t stand around, and you’ll be fine! In exchange for some extra work, Ames took me spear fishing at the end of my stay. And I’ll say, it was freaking magical. The spear fishing, was hands down one of the best experiences of my entire life. I’ll be forever greatful to Ames and the friends I made on moloka’i!

I got exactly what I was hoping for in my 3 month stay WWOOFing with Ames, great lunches, satisfying work, and a lovely place to rest after a day in the sun. The accommodations aren't for everyone, would not recommend coming if you're high maintenance, but if you enjoy simplicity and cohabitating with nature you should get along just fine. Bring head lamps and battery packs for phones as there's no power at the campsite. My only wish for this spot would be a bus that ran later into the day, but you're definitely still able to do all you need to in town if you're patient with the free bus. My time here will always be a special one, just come with a humble attitude and gracious mindset, you won't be let down. If you can keep up with Ames you're sure to learn a lot. The longer you stick around and show you're a hard worker, the more opportunities you'll get to spear dive, make deer jerky, and just live like a local. I'd seriously consider coming back just to share some delicious Axis with Ames again and laugh at his off color dad jokes!

I spent a month on Ames' farm. It was my first WWOOFing experience, and Ames was patient enough to explain things multiple times, which allowed me to learn a lot. In general, Ames gave us the opportunity to connect with the community and generously shared his knowledge with us. We helped with the goats, chickens, the garden, and even with honey production. Ames was kind enough to take us fishing as well. The farm itself is truly beautiful, and I had a wonderful time there. We stayed in the off-grid beach house, which helped me slow down and recharge my energy. The food we had was delicious, healthy, and locally sourced, and I enjoyed it. Thank you!

We stayed with Ames for 6 weeks. This is a really special place where we were able to live and learn about the real hawaiin culture and lifestyle thanks to Ames. Staying at the beach house was very special and unique. We always woke up with the beautiful views of the ocean. Working with Ames is a daily learning. He always had something to teach us. Ames introduced us to his friends and family, somedays we were lucky and had some extraworks. The best part of the day was at the end of the work, when Ames cooked us amazing lunches, with him we tried real hawaiian food. Staying with him was a really nice experience and we hope to return one day. Mahalo Ames.
