We are an organic and vegan homestead located in Northern Vermont just a few miles from the Quebec, Canada border. We have 221 mostly wooded acres set on a hill, with approximately 15 acres of meadows. The property has been in my family since 1962, but we recently took over the stewardship of the land and the renovation of the big old farmhouse (circa 1900) that sits on the property.
We grow a large vegetable garden and are building a network of hiking trails in our woods.
We cook and eat delicious organic vegan meals. You don't have to be vegan, just happy to eat what we serve, and we’d love to learn some new recipes from you! We’re a vegan household, but we don’t care what you eat off of our property, so if you’re craving animal products you can certainly visit local restaurants.
We are surrounded by lush green hills and cow farms. There is a state park with a lake just 6 miles from the house, and free kayaks and canoes available to paddle the nearby Missisquoi river. It’s a great area for bicycling and hiking as well.
We love showing people around the area. We're surrounded by nature, hiking trails, quiet roads for bikes, and a nice cool river. In addition to all that Vermont has to offer, there are wonderful little French towns to explore just over the border in Quebec. We love to take people there for croissants, wine, cider, and other French treats. Montreal, Canada is just 75 minutes away, and Burlington, VT, which is a great college town, is only an hour. We go there when we crave a bit of city life, for large grocery stock-ups, movies, book stores and restaurants.
We would like to host people for one week or more. You would either have a bed in the house or comfortable sleeping arrangements in a tent, depending on how many people we're hosting and/or what you'd prefer. Either way there will be hot showers, laundry machines and a clothes line, and delicious vegan meals served at the dining table looking out at our bird feeders. We call it Bird Television!
We like to spend evenings sitting around the campfire with s'mores and guitars, watching movies outdoor projected onto a huge sheet, or gazing at the incredible night sky. We spend down time in the hammocks, kayaking the nearby river, or out on our trails.
We'd enjoy the company of interesting people who can pitch in with growing vegetables, conserving the bounty, foraging for wild berries and fruit, building trails in the woods, and creating tenting platforms. If you have construction skills, we're also renovating our old farmhouse and could always use some extra hands.
We're as interested in cultural exchange and friendship as we are in receiving your help, and we want this to be a good experience for our guests. Let's make some great memories together!
