Year round farm, growing mixed vegetables, culinary mushrooms & microgreens.
North Carolina
We grow a variety of vegetables, small fruits, culinary mushrooms & microgreens + have about 120 free-range laying hens (+ 5 dogs & one cat). We are a full year producer and sell exclusively at two Charlotte area Farmers Markets every Saturday. It is a 10 acre property of which around one acre is in production at any given time (we rotate blocks). The farm location is very convenient with shopping, dining & entertainment not a long drive away. We typically operate with two full time employees, two part timers + 1 intern.
WWOOFer schedule: 25-30 hrs/week depending on how much is going on at the time.
We are looking for somebody to participate in all aspects of running a successful market farm. This will include tasks such as:
– Seed starting, we use paperpot, soil-blocks & Winstrip trays + germination chamber
– Planting. We direct seed, hand transplant the paperpot transplanter depending on the crop.
– Weeding, lots and lots of weeding, mostly by hand.
– Pruning, staking & trellising
– Harvesting, washing & packing
– Assist at the Farmers market stand
We also grow mushrooms from scratch on hardwood blocks, in this case we also do everything in-house:
– Expanding mycelium
– Mixing substrates, making & sterilizing blocks
– Inoculation
– Fruiting & harvesting
Invariably a person will gravitate to some aspects of what we do & we try to accommodate specialization as far as is practically possible.
Accommodation is provided by means of a modern, clean & fully functional RV that is parked on the farm that is dedicated to our guests. A shower & bathroom on the bottom floor of the house is also included. WiFi is included.
Our guests are responsible for their own meal preparation but the farm will supply a full share of seasonal veggies, mushrooms, eggs & fruits grown on the farm. We can also provide additional food items from any of the nearby grocery stores as is required.

It's a wonderfully productive, skillfully and diligently operated farm.
the sense of structure in daily work is easy to understand, and gives every opportunity to work on what you personally find interesting.
They are excellent at explaining anything that you'd like to know about the technical aspects of the entire operation.
The people are all great to be around and very kind, the dogs are cute, the produce available is delicious and the farm mascot is the best I've ever seen.
My time there was some of the best in my life, I can't recommend it enough.

This farm was our home for four months when my husband and I needed a place to lay low and reconnect with nature. As first-time WWOOFers, we didn’t know what to expect, but the RV where we stayed was exactly as described, and all the details about the farm were accurate.
We learned many things about farming, and our work there was diverse and engaging. We never felt useless; there was always something new to learn, and someone willing to teach us. William, the farm manager, and Noah were wonderful—always eager to help and show us the proper way to do things.
Gerrit was straightforward from our first phone conversation about what to expect on the farm and what we could anticipate from him. He never went back on his word. He and his wife, Monika, were excellent hosts. This farm is a sacred place that taught us a lot about ourselves and life in general. We made friends whom we will cherish in our hearts forever.

I had an amazing time with this farm! Gerrit and his crew are awesome, focused, hardworking, and ready to teach. They have so many interesting projects going on to learn about including growing mushrooms, all the vegetables you can think of and ones you’ve never heard of, strawberries, beekeeping, micro greens, and more! They are very knowledgeable. Also very understanding and good communicators, willing to be flexible with schedule and workload. I loved being here and meeting this cool group of people, they are truly fantastic! Gerrit and Monica run a great operation💚

This farm is a great place to go if you are serious about learning the inns and outs of farming.
This was my 1st winter farming experience. I arrived in the middle of a snow storm in January but, there was plenty of work since they grew everything in many high tunnels and green houses in winter. They sell their produce at two farmers markets evey weekend.
We planted seeds, weeded, transplanted seedlings, composted and made beds ready for planting etc. three days a week then, on Thursday and Friday we harvested for the market.
I enjoyed the pace and variety of things to be done. I had the evenings and weekends to explore the surrounding small towns and big cities.
The accommodation is a good sized RV that is well stocked. Gerrit makes sure you have everything you need.
The farm manager, William, makes sure you are taken care of while you're working. They are very knowledgeable and friendly guys.
I totally enjoyed my stay here and recommend it as a must experience for any future farmer or homesteader.

A welcoming farm and people
I stayed for a period of three weeks on this farm. I had an incredible experience with people who love what they do. The RV was perfect and spacious. I was able to discover the world of farming. They are understanding and responded very effectively to my requests. Additionally, I learned a lot about various farming tasks. It was a rewarding experience that I recommend to anyone who wants to reconnect with nature and discover farm life.

This was my first WWOOF experience and it was really wonderful! Everyone at the farm was very warm and welcoming, always offering to explain something if I had a question or show me the ropes of a task that was new to me. Since I was there in spring, I was able to help with lots of seeding, bed prep, planting, and harvesting the yummy vegetables that had grown through the winter. William and Gerrit were always happy to teach me anything I wanted to learn - from mushroom inoculation and microgreen harvesting to egg collection and chicken coop cleanup. I also got to go to market with Angela and William, which I really enjoyed. There's a wide array of things going on at the farm, so I think there's something for everyone.
To everyone at the farm (people and animals included) - thank you so much for being such a welcoming and kind community! I enjoyed spending time with you all and wish you luck in the season ahead :) Hope to see you again soon!
