Ranch on California's Central Coast
California
Our 80 acre hobby ranch is our happy place, where no two days are alike. WWOOF'ers help with all the different tasks on the ranch, but tasks depend on the season, what skills you have, current projects etc.
We have cows, horses (experienced riders may be able to exercise the horses), sheep, chickens and pigs, and are basically self- sufficient in terms of meat and eggs. At the same time grazing animals play a crucial role in mitigating the wildfire risk. We used to run a small egg production, at this point we only produce eggs for our own consumption, but will be happy to teach WWOOFers everything we know. We also have 2 livestock guarding dogs, 2 pet dogs, and several barn cats. We have plans of starting a vegetable garden, pumpkin patch and reviving the 5 acres of ornamental eucalyptus, that was planted on the ranch many years ago. Our ranch is truly a magical place with the most beautiful views of the hills, valleys, and ocean and the most amazing sunsets. Located on the beautiful Central Coast of California, about half way between San Francisco and Los Angeles, on top of a hill, with close to perfect climate year round -- rarely really hot or cold.
Please note that even if the calendar shows a "Planned visit" feel free to contact us as we may still be able to accommodate you.
To avoid wasting our time or your time, please read our entire description before sending a stay request. We respond to all stay requests within 24 hours.

WHAT CAN WWOOFers EXPECT:
* WWOOFers will be house in a large RV with 3 beds, or if they prefer to setup their own tent that is also possible. We only host 2 WWOOF'ers at a time, unless it is a group that already knows each other.
* We prefer stays of minimum 2 weeks.
* WWOOFers who like their own company and are able to work independently will fit right in. If you are looking to work in a large team or prefer a lot of people around you this is probably not the place for you.
* We produce most of our own meat. Meals are varied and we like to experiment with new things. Breakfast and lunch: Everyone makes their own. Dinner: Some days we will eat together, but most days you will cook for yourself in the RV, we will supply the groceries you prefer.
* We at 8am in the morning and volunteer hours are about 5 hours per day, so most afternoons/evenings will be free to enjoy the ranch and explore the area, and you will generally be off on the weekends.
* Cleaning up after yourself, participating in cooking meals, and keeping your living quarters tidy and clean is not considered part of your volunteering hours.
* A car is recommended, if you want the freedom to get around on your own. The Ranch is about 10 min. drive from the closest town and there is no public transportation to the Ranch. You are welcome to get a ride with us when we go to town for errands, but that does not happen every day.
* We ask that all WOOFers are ID-Verified WWOOFers, The process is fast, easy, and free, for more information visit: https://info.wwoofusa.org/blog/2023/12/16/id-verified/
* We only accept WWOOFers who has health insurance or travel insurance (for international visitors)

Mette and Kenneth were wonderful hosts. It was my first time WWOOFing so I did not know what to expect, but it was such a lovely experience. I am a college student so I was unfamiliar with anything related to farms so everyday I got to learn a lot. Mette was very patient with me and her guidance was very clear. The animals are all super cute, especially the cats! They were very kind hosts and provided everything I needed and even took us out on excursions whenever they could. They are very fun and open-minded people and I really enjoyed my time on the ranch. Me and another WWOOFer were living in an RV and it was actually pretty comfortable. There is a small kitchen, bathroom, room, and a little bunk. There is also an outdoor shower and toilet. You just have to empty the water and refill the tank from time to time which is no problem. Day to day work was feeding the animals in the morning or walking the dogs then whatever tasks Mette needed help with for the day. The schedule was 8 am to 1 pm which was very reasonable and you have weekends off. It is a great balance and gives you time to yourself and to be in nature at the ranch.
Unfortunately I had a very serious family emergency so I had to leave early, furthermore my original stay of 3 weeks was cut down to 1, but nonetheless, I had a great time and would certainly come back to help again. I highly recommend WWOOFing here, they were wonderful hosts!

I had a truly wonderful time staying with Mette, Kenneth, and their whole family. They are very warm, kind, and generous people, and from the very beginning I felt welcome and at home. I really enjoyed the many great conversations we had and the open, relaxed atmosphere they create.
Mette took a lot of time to show me everything related to the animals and the daily work on the farm. She was always very patient, helpful, and happy to explain things, which made the experience both enjoyable and educational. Communication before my arrival and throughout my stay was excellent and very smooth.
The RV was spacious and cozy offering a comfortable and peaceful place to stay. The surrounding nature is beautiful with stunning sunsets.
Overall, I truly loved my time there and can recommend staying with them. Thank you so much for everything!

Mette and Kenneth were so hospitable and kind. They took us along for fun excursions like the movies and to meet their friends. The ranch is beautiful, peaceful, and the perfect place to clear your mind. This was my first WWOOFing experience and Mette did a great job teaching me tasks I was unfamiliar with and making it educational. Some of the work is hard but it’s rewarding and the hours are reasonable! I shared the trailer with one other WWOOFer, who I ended up getting along great with, but still there was space for us both to have privacy if needed. If you’re someone who loves animals, this is also would be a good fit for you. I spent lots of time hanging out with the barn cats. Overall a wonderful time!

This ranch was an amazing WWOOFing experience. Mette and her family were a pleasure to be around and all the tasks and work was explained well with checklists and expectation. The work was easy and also a pleasure getting to spend time with the Horses, Sheep, Chickens, Cats and Dogs. I got to experience 2 new sheep after they were born. I highly recommend the ranch if you are looking for a place in central CA. Great Experience! 😃😃😃

Mette and Kenneth were my first WWOOF hosts, and I could not have asked for a better experience. The ranch is beautiful and I enjoyed peaceful mornings feeding all of the animals. One of the reasons my stay was so magical was the barn kittens! Daily tasks stimulated both my creativity and problem-solving, and I got to learn and use new tools. Accommodations were very comfortable and accessible. Mette’s organization, direction, and communication also made this a very productive stay. Thank you for the amazing time!

Staying on this ranch was the most incredible experience, and I highly recommend.
Mette (+Kenneth) is a deeply knowledgeable, generous, and caring host - it is truly inspiring how she runs the ranch, and I enjoyed all the tasks she assigned us from planting succulents to mucking stalls and chopping wood. Hours were super reasonable. I feel like I learned many life skills while having fun. The ranch is pristinely beautiful with stunning sunsets/sunrises, very starry nights, and consistently sunny weather. Plus, the animals here are so sweet and well-trained (my favorite were the sheep, so cute). I was especially impressed by the RV, which is very clean and has everything you need. I always felt super supported and that I could voice any concerns I had. Plus, I got to drive a golf cart!! Thank you again Mette and family for having me:)
