Small family farm big gardens ✨ full circle focus
Hawaii
we are a small family, caring for our land for just over twelve years now. having been born and raised here on kaua’i, everything i do is with deep respect and appreciation of reciprocation for this island. we focus on rebuilding our soil thru coconut mulch and reintroducing life into soil which had been mistreated thru past sugar cane and pineapple production. growing beauty in the form of fruit trees, spices, tea plants, hardwoods, and so much more.
we are always growing and learning.
our focus is to grow what loves our climate, and utilize it all in a myriad of ways.
i make flour, teas, a lot of baked goods, pesto, pickles ….
utilizing spices, herbs, and all what’s in season growing here,
coconut water + milk ….
we also enjoy weaving, natural dye making, wildcrafting, music, growing and learning and learning!
we have been welcoming our first wwoofers ever, for the last year!
having done everything on our own (with the help of some amazing friends over the years), we have been inviting a bit of help to continue in creation of this beautiful land.
we live a simple life, solar powered, peaceful, quiet, private, and ask the same from you.
please no outside visitors, no drama.
we do wholeheartedly invite in solid folks and welcome them into our family and land.
✨we do ask for a minimum stay of one month, to be able to help in projects and learn our ways of doing what we do. a few months is ideal if the fit is right for everyone.
~ for food: there is a small kitchen available for wwoofers to make their meals, and there will be foods available from the gardens and farm, as well as some staples (grains, beans, oils, teas, and so much more) !
there is always different kinds of fruits, greens which we are happy to share from the gardens. we love to share meals on occasion, but greatly respect that food is personal and give you space to create your own.
~ for lodging: we have three woofer sites set up for housing. they are large tents (think carport), with wooden floors, windows, adjustable walls…for the living spaces.
perfect space for couples or a single person. they have beds and some simple furnitures, space for stretching and relaxing, bedding, towels, and solar powered lights.
we also have community bikes, surfboards, snorkel gear, and more for folks to utilize and adventure with.
our focus is not on high production as much as nurturing health in our land, soil and plants. reintroducing biodiversity which slowly rebuild a beautiful climate back up.
it’s been very fulfilling for us too see the fruitions of this over the years, and inspires and energizes us to keep on keepin on with all this beautiful hard work!
i grew up gardening from baby days and that love has stuck with me in many forms, thru farming for others and learning all the philosophies which exist. that being said ~ we weed, mulch, weed, plant, cultivate, harvest, weed, water, prune, and weed … a lot!
we are a part of one farmers market each week which i harvest and create for.
we generally start in the earlier morning and work into early afternoon.
we ask for focus, good attitude, solid in your self, clear communication, a love for learning and growing, great work ethics, and a deep pride in a job well done!
we are within biking distance of the ocean, as well as walking/ biking distance to the local bus stop which can take you around our little island. we are grateful to be in the neighborhood of some of the best organic farmer friends on the island as well!

My husband and I had a nice 5 week stay here over Winter. The farm is beautiful and in a good location. My husband did repairs and built some projects. The work for me was 95% weeding. Living quarters for us were simple. We did end up buying a few things for basic comfort. Kitchen is nice and suitable. We ended up buying about 95% of our own food. There was some fruits provided and basic staples. There wasn't much engagement or interaction with our host Natalie outside of the instructions for work to be done. The work week is consistent at Mon.-Fri. 7:30-12:30. This farm would be best suited for someone who is a self starter and likes a peaceful and quiet environment. Good communication skills will make your time here more smooth and enjoyable.

andy and zanni are great folks, and were a great addition to our farm family. i was able to help them out with a vehicle to use while here, so they spent almost all their time after work adventuring the island together. andy has a real love for building and so much experience, it was a joy to work with him, talking and learning a ton in the aisles of the hardware store, and utilizing salvaged materials to create. zanni was solid in her work, doing harvesting rounds in the morning, processing roselle, organizing starter house, doing nursery work propagating cuttings, and of course the infamous weeding we all love😁.
although i supplement the food staples quite a bit with other special things as possible, fresh eggs, homemade goods, chocolate (!) ~ their diet was mainly meat, and that is not something i provide. andy was super excited to make juice from our grapefruits every day for them, and was very communicative when anything ran low or was needed.
andy and zanni come from a little homestead of their own so had a lot of understanding for the sweet simplicity of this hard working life.

I found my time on Natalias farm to be enriching and supportive. The work was never too heavy, but consistent. The property is beautiful and secure. Natalie has an authentic connection with the land and community. Her family and friends are kind and welcoming in every interaction. I will always value the time I spent on this small farm.

I had a lovely, restful, impactful month staying with Natalie.
Here, you are off-grid - the only outlets are in one shared charging station; the kitchen has a propane fridge & stove with no microwave or oven; the bathroom is a compost toilet that we empty out into compost bins. This might sound too rugged for some, but I encourage anyone wanting to connect with nature to consider a farm like this, because learning to live so sustainably & self-sufficiently is gratifying & empowering. It made me rethink everything about my lifestyle on the mainland.
Everyone gets their own covered carport with lots of space & privacy. Each night, you can do the most incredible stargazing that I still can’t get over. I bought some groceries, but Natalie provides us with basics like rice/oats/lentils plus lots of fresh fruit from the farm. We help Mon-Fri from 7-12. The work consists of harvesting (banana, avocado, papaya & so much more), LOTS of weeding, & other odd jobs like putting down gravel to maintain an even road. The bus stop is a 20 min walk & can take you most of the way around the island or you can use the farm bikes to get around.
Natalie is very welcoming & we spent lovely time with her & her sweet kids. She was born & raised on Kaua’i so she is full of knowledge both about the island & farming and will help you become part of the local community. She has a beautiful way of thinking about things and I feel very lucky to have learned from her. Thank you, Natalie!

My time on Natalie’s farm was undoubtedly medicinal and transformative, filled with incredible people, delicious food, and meditative exploration. I originally planned to stay for one month, but ultimately returned for another five weeks, as I felt it wasn’t quite time for this beautiful chapter to be over yet. I spent most mornings weeding or harvesting. The work can be hard, but it is also satisfying and rewarding. My afternoons were spent exploring the island by bus, biking to the beach, or going to catch some barrels with her kiddos! Approach the land and her home with respect and humility, and you will be immensely rewarded - Natalie is wealthy in knowledge about farming, the island, and life as a whole. We would often all adventure on Sundays; many afternoons were spent napping at the ocean and many evenings spent gathered around a fire with wonderful people. In Natalie, as well as her friends and beautiful family, I have found deep, lasting friendship and respect. She is generous, compassionate, and capable (and an INCREDIBLE cook. I envy those of you who will get to experience her chai, macadamia cream sauce, and baked goods for the first time) - I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn from her and experience the island through her eyes. Natalie - thank you a million times over. Your friendship, love, and mentorship mean so much to me. Please give everyone a big hug from me and I hope to see you all soon <3

Loved my time at Stars and Roots. Great Energy. Very positive atmosphere. Workday 7-12.
Lunch on own with anything you like from the farm. Mostly everyone gathers in kitchen after shift.
Natalia makes incredible dressings for the most delicious salads imaginable. Did I mention her salad dressings are INCREDIBLE!?!
Natalia is calm, positive, knowledgeable, accommodating and grounded.
She trains wwoofers and then when new arrive, knowledgeable woofers teach new. Such a loving atmosphere. Brad taught me and he presented multiple tasks for me to choose from and told me when I finished or tired of a task, let him know & he presented more options. Time flew by.
Natalia checked in, answered questions and then off to complete her tasks…. Repeat.
Accommodated outings.
Bonfires, beaches, hikes….
Borrowed vehicles, Rideshares…
Many hands makes light work.
Stars and Roots will nourish your body and soul. Delicious food from Mother Earth, positive loving atmosphere.
Grateful.
Will be returning.
So much knowledge to absorb.

I spent the past month working on this farm; it was a beautiful experience. At first, I was a bit confused and a little lost, but it was all part of the experience! After the first week, I felt like I settled into the lifestyle. I started the day with the sun rising and the birds chirping. I did lots of weeding, but I very much enjoyed the hard work. I was able to fall into a rhythm of working, and before I knew it, 5 hours had passed. I grew an appreciation for all the small things we must do to help the plants flourish. With all the sustainable practices, I also became more aware of how I could simplify my lifestyle. To add to all the amazing things about this farm, Natalie was an amazing host and an even more incredible person. Her knowledge and connection to the land blew my mind. Her family is also amazing and makes you feel at home; perhaps the youngest will take you on an adventure to the ice cream bean tree! (perhaps multiple). I have only been back home a couple of days, and I miss the harmony of this farm and the red dirt all over my hands and feet. I highly recommend this place; there is so much to learn and appreciate. Your life will slow down, and you will see lots of things you might miss in the rush of daily life! Natalie knows how to care for the land, and she does it so well... Thank you again, Natalie. I hope to see you again 💓
