My husband and I retired on a farm in the Ozark Mountains. We have 6 alpacas, 1 donkey, 9 chickens, 4 Dogs, 10 sheep. We have a small organic garden (40x70) but are not Certified Organic. A typical day could look like: Wake up and feed all the animals and enjoy a nice breakfast. Go to the vegetable garden, weed, check for pests, and pick ripe veggies. Hunt for mushrooms in the woods, make soups, sauces, and sourdough bread (I have a 50 year old starter!) or go wild blackberry picking. We also have a beautifully sandy beach on the lake, but have to maintain it to keep the weeds out. We have 2 homes that are attached. The house that will be available to the Woofers is on the lower level with a walk out to the basement patio. It has a full kitchen, living room with a big TV, 2 bedrooms (one with two twin beds and one with a queen) and two bathrooms. It’s also a berm house, so the temperature stays on the cooler side, which is nice in the summer heat. My hobbies are canning, freeze drying, and dehydrating foods. I also like to go mushroom hunting which we have in plenty. I am an aromatherapist so I enjoy making salves and tinctures. I also do sound therapy with my tibetan bowls. We have a lot of State and National parks around us. Missouri is the state of caves and springs. There is a lot of nice float trips to take in our area. And even more hikes!

My two-week long stay on Therese and Rich's farm was one for which I am grateful. I helped with weeding, pruning plants in the garden, general maintenance, foraging, and sowing seeds. I thoroughly enjoyed working on all tasks on the beautiful, forested property, often with other volunteers. I was welcomed to ride the ATVs, fish, swim, kayak, and eat the wonderful, healthy food from the kitchen at any time. I enjoyed that we all came together after the day to eat supper, allowing a strong connection between us all. Often we played games, watched movies, or gathered around the fire together after dinner. There is a lot to do here so there is no chance of getting bored. At the same time, there are endless places to stop, rest, read, relax, and take in the beauty of nature. I learned a great deal during my time at Greene Acres as Therese and Rich are quite knowledgeable people in all aspects of life. Also, Therese and Rich both concern themselves with ensuring that volunteers are able to experince the most that Missouri has to offer. For example, Rich spent half a day transporting us to and from the river on our eight-mile kayaking journey, then showed us a sinkhole under which a river surprisingly passed. Furthermore, Therese treated us to tickets to a St. Louis museum when a volunteer and I visited the city. Overall, I had a remarkable time volunteering on the farm. I would highly recommend the experience to good, honest people. Thank you, Therese and Rich.

Daniel was a joy to have around. He was polite, quiet and most respectful of Richard and myself. I had recently had a hip replacement and he made it possible for me to go foraging safely through the woods by cutting a path before me and assisting me along the way. There is so much positive feedback that i could give but don’t know where to start. He was an incredibly dedicated worker, Always sticking to the task at hand until it was completed. My garden never looked better. He was very careful in tying up all the vines and pulling all the weeds. I hope he comes back. He is welcome anytime

I had a wonderful time with at this farm, and I would definitely recommend it. My dog Sunny and I were welcomed with open arms, and by the end of our stay, Therese and Rich felt like family. They went out of their way to make sure that I was comfortable. I learned a lot at this farm including using a freeze dryer, making salves, and more. I enjoyed swimming in the lake, exploring the property, and hunting for mushrooms. It was so cool to find chanterelles! I stayed in my own camper, but the rooms provided were beautiful, and seemed to be quite comfortable.

Josephine was such a joy to have around. She was always smiling and asking if she could help. 4 days into her stay she was not asking anymore. She saw what needed to be done and she was doing it. She works like that of 2 women not 1. We welcome her back at any time. She is a lovely guest and so is her dog Sunny. We will miss her.

What an excellent stay! Therese and Rich are truly wonderful people. They both go out of their way to provide a variety of experiences at the farm. Along with daily chores you may find yourself mushroom hunting, helping the neighbor with his cattle, freeze drying herbs, making bread or working in the garden. Every day will be different! The skills you bring to the table will be put to good use. The surrounding area has much to offer, but I found the farm itself had plenty of places to explore. Take a walk in the woods and you'll be amazed at what you find. Remnants of days gone by, unusual plants, cemeteries, and of course, Mushrooms!! I would definitely do a return visit. Greene Acres Farm has a special place in my heart. Thank you Therese and Rich!!!

Susi, your stay with us will always be warmly remembered. You helped get us on track with the newly born and needing to be bottle feed lambs, to organizing and putting in our vegetable garden. You brought order to parts of the farm that we did not even know needed to be organized. Your cooking, especially the cherry pie, was so tasty and made fresh from the orchard. We can’t thank you enough for the time you gave to us. We hope to see you again soon.
