*** We have three individual cabins that sleep up to 2 people each (if traveling together). There’s also a queen bed in the loft of the tiny house that is available if all the cabins are occupied. We are will have open cabins starting August 15th. *** We are a organically grown vegetable, flower, and small fruit farm in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Our home and farm are surrounded by forests, and our closest neighbors are racoons, deer, and pileated woodpeckers. We sell a seasonal CSA and wholesale to local grocery stores. The farm produces a wide variety of vegetables and small fruits. We recently planted a small orchard. Additionally, we raise chickens for eggs and meat and bees for pollination and honey. My wife (Jessy) and I have five chickens, ten thousand bees, two dogs, and one very friendly cat. Jessy works a full-time job and helps out on her days off. I worked as the horticultural extension agent for the county before going full time on the farm. I've spent the last 20 years working in agriculture (I have a MS and a PhD in Agronomy) and can offer an extensive education in small farm production. We are a safe and affirming farm. We are looking for individuals who are kind, curious, and enjoy working outdoors. As a WWOOFer, you will have the opportunity to learn just about anything you want to know about small-scale fruit and vegetable farming. As mentioned above, I was a horticultural educator in my capacity as an extension agent. Our production practices are evidence-based and prioritize time efficiency, the judicious use of resources, and the promotion of healthy soil and plants. We are looking for spring-to-fall WWOOFers to help us with all aspects of farming, from seeding and planting to harvesting, weeding, processing, fertilizing, etc. Interested individuals should enjoy working outside and enjoy physically demanding labor. While no experience is necessary (we're happy to teach you), feeling comfortable with sharp tools is a must. We do ask all our volunteers to sign a liability release form. More importantly though, we prefer individuals that are kind, curious, have a good sense of humor, prefer walks in the woods to screens, and want to be a part of a community. We play music, make art, and enjoying hiking and camping. We live about 15 minutes from town, which has a small but wonderful selection of restaurants, bars, and stores. We also live about 15-20 min from South Mountain Park and hiking trails. We are an hour or two from the best hiking in the state. Our area is not public transportation friendly, so you'll need a car to get around or be willing to Uber/Lyft (approx. $20 to downtown Hickory). Below is our WWOOFing agreement: We will provide: - A private 8 x 12 ft sleeping cabin. All three cabins have lamps, bedside tables, and dresser drawers. Two cabins have a full bed and one has two twin beds. Each WWOOFer will have a cabin of their own (unless traveling with another person and prefer to share). Each cabin is insulated, located in shaded spot, and has electricity with a built in fan. There are screens on the window and screen door flaps in each cabin. - All necessary bedding, pillows, and towels. - Access to 25 acres of wooded land with walking paths surrounding the farm, an air conditioned common space (with comfortable seating, TV for movies, books, and a kitchenette), Outdoor kitchen and seating area (includes a refrigerator, full size stove/oven, and a microwave) , two compost toilets (one in the tiny house and one in a separate building near cabins.), one indoor and one private outdoor shower, active outdoor area (with a fire pit, trampoline, disc gold goal, and slack-line), and a fully outfitted air conditioned gym. - Enough whole food (primarily from the farm or local farmer’s market) to provide ingredients for three meals per day. Any special requests outside of our typical diet will be the responsibility of the individual to purchase and may be stored in the shared kitchen. (Any food/drink expenses accrued from eating out will be the responsibility of the individual.) - Preparation of a minimum of two evening meals per week for everyone (Jessy cooks one dinner, I cook the other). - Access to a washing machine for cloths, all natural detergent, and an outdoor drying rack/cloths line. - Education on organic farming practices and permaculture, as well as all necessary instruction on how to perform tasks successfully and efficiently. What we ask from our guest WWOOFers: - Approx. 5-6 hours of work 5 days a week (Monday through Friday). Usually we start between 7am and 8 am. We take about 30 minutes for lunch around noon, and then end between 1:30 and 2:30 (start and stop times depend on weather and workload). - Preparation of one evening meal per week for everyone - Wash and replace sheets/towels and clean personal living space prior to leaving Recommended packing list : Waterproof shoes/boots Slip on shoes/sandals Long pants and long sleeves (clothes you can get dirty/muddy) Consider bringing pull on gardener sleeves if you are wearing short sleeve shirts Rain jacket Sunhat Biodegradable toiletries for shower (free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, silicones, and artificial dyes. Usually all natural products where you recognize all the ingredients as natural compounds are safe. ) Sunscreen Insect repellent Headlamp Fanny pack Water bottle Hammock (we have one you can borrow if you don't have one of your own) No need to bring gloves, we have plenty!

I have spent the past four months at this farm, and it has been four months filled with joy, adventure, learning, and fulfilling work. If you have an interest in growing veggies, fruits, herbs, and flowers, and if you’d like to be a part of a playful and inspiring community, then I highly recommend a stay at this beautiful farm. Adam and Jessy pour so much love into the land and the people they welcome to it. You will be very well fed, very comfortably housed, kept busy during the work day with interesting tasks, and have plenty of free time to explore the beautiful land around the farm and surrounding areas. There is lots of good hiking in the area, and day trips to Asheville were always a blast. I really cannot say enough to express my gratitude to Adam and Jessy for their generosity, wisdom, and humor. I hope to be back soon. I love y’all!

Wow! What a wonderful experience. I was only able to spend a week here, but my time was nothing short of amazing. For starters, Jessy and Adam were thoughtful, intentional, and accommodating hosts. Aside from being kind and fascinating people to chat with, they made sure the WWOOFER's living space was cozy and everyone had what they needed. They also did such a great job of cultivating a community amongst all the WWOOFERs. One of my favorite parts was sharing dinner with everyone on week nights. Even after being on the farm for a few nights, it just felt natural to be sitting and laughing at the dinner table with everyone. It felt like the energy Jessy and Adam put into making a beautiful experience for the WWOOFERs was met with so much positivity from the WWOOFERs themselves--the people I met while on the farm were so warm and welcoming. I loved learning about all our different journeys that brought us to Hickory, NC at the same time. The farm was beautiful and there was always something to learn while working. Adam and his small crew were always open to answering questions and gave clear directions for daily tasks. We all worked as part of a team to get our tasks done! Again, I could only stay for a week, but this experience really changed me! The way Jessy and Adam have built their lives and this farm felt really inspiring. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to WWOOF!

If you're unsure where to wwoof, come here! The 3 weeks I was at the farm felt like home and I left with nothing but good memories. In terms of work, I did a variety of different tasks such as weeding, pruning, seeding, and planting. It was always enjoyable and Adam always made sure to have a variety of tasks throughout the day so it never got boring and time went by fast. While I was there, some days were extremely hot and sometimes rainy, but Adam made sure to accommodate our work schedule for these conditions which I really appreciated. Outside of work, I met amazing people. On weekends, we would take day trips to Asheville and various hiking trails which were always beautiful. Adam and Jessy were also lovely hosts. They have such a fun and welcoming energy and I always looked forward to our nightly dinners together. All in all, I could not reccommend this place enough :)

Adam and Jessy are an incredible couple. I can't express how grateful I am to spend six weeks on the farm. They wholeheartedly try their best to provide wwoofers with good accommodations, and I would say it's REALLY hard to find elsewhere that has a host with this much care and capacity to provide them. Besides amazing living conditions and delicious food, I learned a lot about how to operate a vegetable farm. Adam is very knowledgeable about vegetables, and he loves sharing his methods with us. The farm is well organized, and Adam has a thorough plan for when to plant what. During my stay, we worked Monday to Friday, usually from 7 AM to 1 PM. Time passed pretty fast at work. Daily tasks include weeding, seeding, planting, harvesting, pruning, and many other fun things you can ask for. Weekend life is also a lot of fun. Other wwoofers and I went to many nearby waterfalls and cute towns. I strongly recommend staying on this farm. Even a short-term stay is a lot of fun. I would for sure go back to visit them.

My weeks with these Tenacious Agrarians were some of the most educational and adventurous I've had. Adam and Jessy are incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable and hilarious. They love to share their lives experiences and insights at every family meal. Speaking of which all the food I ate while on this farm was incredible and nutritious! I learned so much about the operations of a small scale farm/CSA and what it takes to try and make a business like this successful! Thank you to everyone out in Hickory! Much Love!

My three weeks on Adam and Jessy’s farm was nothing short of magical. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms, and that warm feeling of belonging stayed with me throughout my visit. Adam and Jessy are both kind, funny, smart, generous, and incredibly driven. They are a joy to talk to and learn from. It was pretty hot during my stay, so we started work early—working consistenly from 7am-1pm Monday through Friday. Work typically consisted of a mix of harvesting, weeding, planting, and seeding, and Adam does a great job of explaining tasks clearly. My fellow WWOOFers and I usually worked on one task as a team, which was so much fun. We had afternoons to ourselves, which consisted of showers, naps, and exploring the nearby hikes and coffee shops. Each person cooks dinner for everyone at least once per week, which I found to be a fun system and it was such a joy to cook with so many fresh veggies and herbs! Communal dinners with Adam, Jessy, and the other WWOOFers were some of my favorite moments. Adam and Jessy also have a wonderful little setup for the WWOOFers, with three individual cabins, a communal cabin (with AC!), and an outdoor kitchen. I felt this was one of the most organized and thought-out farms I’ve been to, and the clear work schedule and expectations were refreshing. I would highly recommend this farm to any WWOOFer. My time here felt like a dream and I miss it everyday. Thank you so much, Adam and Jessy.
