Regenerative farming; raising goats; beekeeping; raising chickens; vegetables & fruits
Minnesota
Hello WWOOFers…my name is Kathy and my partner, Martha, and I live on a 20 acre farm one hour north of the Twin Cities. We are retired folks who love all things in nature but especially gardening, raising animals (goats & chickens) and running a small apiary. In addition we lease by barter some of our land to a very hard working young man, Ryan, who practices regenerative farming for selling organic farm produce at market. In addition to this we are the proud parents of Gracie and Georgie, two fun loving goofy Golden Retrievers, 5 barn cats and one indoor kitty.
Depending on the season a WWOOFer would learn about goat care, kidding, garden bed preparation, transplanting, crop maintenance (pruning, trellising), weeding and hoeing, harvesting, washing & packaging produce, building maintenance, pen and fencing maintenance, wood lot management and preserving food (canning & freezing). Our goal is for the WWOOFer person(s) to enjoy their stay, learn about the way we farm and how we interact with the larger community. Although we are not certified organic we practice organic principles.
We have a private second floor living area that is set up with two bedrooms and one full bathroom for use. Kitchen and laundry room would be shared with owners.
Food will be provided for three meals a day. Generally we forage our own individual breakfasts and lunches but eat dinner together.
Besides the animals and gardening we enjoy cooking, reading, public television, fishing, bird watching, and foraging in our woods.
Less than a mile from our farm is a great fishing, boating & swimming lake. There are a great deal of hiking trails nearby and a National Wildlife Refuge a short distance away. In addition the greater metro area of the Twin Cities is noted for great restaurants and all sorts of entertainment.
PLEASE NOTE: A minimum of 2 weeks is required to WWOOF at our farm.

Staying on Kathy and Martha's farm was a wonderful experience for me! This was my first time woofing and naturally I was worried and anxious. However, as soon as I arrived I was greeted by their two golden retrievers, Georgie and Gracie, and it seemed as if all my worries left me. Kathy and Martha were very welcoming and kind. They were very accommodating with meals and they were very considerate. I came to their farm to learn and indeed I learned. I learned a lot. I think my favorite thing on the farm was helping Ryan with his garden. He taught me a lot about how to garden and he answered all the many questions that I had about market gardening. A typical day would be waking up and doing chores like feeding the goats and chickens. After that it would be a variety of different things like weeding, putting together garden beds, planting, and so on. I hope to visit again throughout the season and see how the gardens are doing. Thank you Kathy and Martha!

Our stay with Kathy and Martha was absolutely incredible!! They are the kindest, most welcoming and interesting people ever, who will also introduce you and include you in things with their neighbors and family- other cool and funny and kind people!! The room you stay in is private and clean and cozy, and the food was delicious! Dinners together were so special and created memories I will treasure forever. The work is fun and unique- always something new and a lot to learn. We enjoyed all aspects of working on the gorgeous property! Lastly (but so not least!!) the baby goats are the CUTEST if they happen to be in that season when you are there-- if not, the dogs, chickens, adult goats and wonderful company will do just fine :) We would highly highly recommend going here to anyone, and can't wait to go back one day!

If you get the chance to wwoof here I am so happy for you. I had the greatest month living, learning, and working with Kathy and Martha. I was fortunate to be with them while 2 of their does gave birth to 6 adorable kids. It was so much fun bottle feeding, learning how to milk, and hanging out on the lawn while they jumped around. I also enjoyed all the work on the tractor, caring for the other animals, and working in both their’s and Ryan’s gardens. I was welcomed in by the sweetest hosts and plugged into their loving community of family and friends. The work is fun, the food is delicious, and the company is unmatched. I will cherish my time and memories made and hope other’s can have the same opportunity I was given.

As a first-time WWOOFER, this experience is one I’ll truly cherish. The moment I stepped onto the farm, I felt like I had walked into a scene from Anne of Green Gables. Everything was lush & alive—the gardens were blooming, the animals were happy, and I felt this immediate sense of calm and groundedness. I knew then that this summer would be something special.
During my stay, I helped Kathy & Martha with morning chores (feeding the chickens, ducks, and goats), cleaning out pens, harvesting fruits & veggies, tidying the barn and sheds, & spending some time in the apiary. Both hosts were so clear in their instructions & patient with the learning curve. They made it easy to get into the rhythm of the work, both independently & alongside them.
They were also just lovely hosts. The guest bedroom was spotless, their home-cooked dinners were delicious, & I appreciated the dinner conversations. I felt genuinely cared for the entire time I was there.
One of my favorite memories: sitting with a barn cat on my lap, Gracie the golden retriever curled up beside me, baby goats trotting in front of me, & Pepper the indoor cat lounging behind me. I smiled seeing them all coexisting so peacefully. I remember thinking, “Well, if this isn’t heaven, I don’t know what is.” The name of their farm couldn’t be more accurate.
Wishing nothing but the best for Kathy & Martha & the beautiful life they’ve built here. It’s a corner of the world I won’t soon forget.

Where do I begin…
First, Ill say that this farm was a great experience.
We got to do plenty of Farm chores like taking care of the goats, the baby goats (kids), chickens, ducks, weeded gardens, getting produce ready for the farmers market, clearing out a garage, planting flowers, etc. The Work was explained and there was good communication. I often worked beyond what was asked because we were treated well, I enjoyed working with them, and I found the work to be rewarding.
We cant forget about their adorable Goldens; the spunky Gracie& the adorable, pint-sized, trouble-maker Georgie. These pups provided plenty of entertainment and were ready for play or cuddles at all times! Notable to mention the cats who loved my family.
They had stocked shelves and were mindful of our vegetarian diet. We ate dinner together most nights and engaged in conversations about farm and life. We watched some shows/movies with hosts and ate ice-cream and an amazing, homemade strawberry/ rhubarb crisp and on another day; a pie. Several mornings we would have meaningful conversation over coffee.
We also met some of their family/associates who let us drive golf carts and took us out on the pontoon.
We will never forget our experience here. The walks and hikes through the woods were an adventure. There is a peace in the air here that I can’t explain.
We will miss all the animal and human friends we met here& can only hope that life returns us here again.
