Former Wwoofer turned host in the beautiful desert
Arizona
8.22 acre farm on pure well water in the foothills of the Catalina mountains. Learn to farm an edible oasis with citrus, blackberries, date palms, ancient olive trees, chickens, beekeeping and honey extraction. Desert style. Help grow and supply a fruit stand, farmers markets, local resort chefs as farm expansion continues. You will have an opportunity to explore the area, hike, relax, work and attend farmers markets. We are uphill from a 100 mile "the loop" bike path that can take you to local shops, Catalina state park hiking. botanical gardens, world class gem shows, museums all within reach. renting a car is advised for longer trips.
we are expanding the farm as we plant more blackberries, more citrus (more varieties), date palms, a burn pit for burning plant waste as it is too dry to compost (have to water our compost) Next door we have 40 horses that supply us with enough clean manure to fertilize everything and get organic matter into our sandy loam desert dirt. tending our gardens with tomatoes, squash, beans, corn, watermelons, blackberries. making olive oil. beekeeping. making adobe structures, working on the historic old house, building a pond for aquaculture, and lots lots more
Where you will stay is in a casita with electricity, ac, right by the well with an outdoor kitchen, I will provide food staples and abundant food from the property. many stores restaurants very close by.
I have a love for learning and teaching, I wwoofed in Hawaii,(spearfished and hunted on Molokai, Hawaiian style, lived and worked on a 5 acre macadamia nut farm that grew enough food for a small army with little input designed by Casey like a happy scientist, and on Kauai on a mango Steen, rambutan, longyan farm where I learned to sell at farmers markets.) for 5 months and came back here and gave the farm and property a total overhaul.

El Milagro is a great place to get some learning and some working done. Chase is a good host. It’s a beautiful piece of property. Chase has a great vision for it and possesses the dedication, creativity, and enthusiasm required for it to succeed. All around enriching experience. The pond area has gotta be one of the most relaxing spots in the area. Top notch bird watching.

Staying at this Farm in the winter was great. Chase is an overall great host; very nice, welcoming and pleasant to work with. I had a great time hanging out with Chase and the other volunteers outside of work as well. Great meals, conversations and pickleball. The accommodations are good and the exchange for hours is fair. The property is really nice and pleasant to hang out on. Lots of stuff to do in the Tucson area and perfect weather over the winter. In terms of work, Chase was always asking if I was interested in taking on a job and never just instructed me to do anything which is awesome. You can choose your own adventure with what you do ( weeding, irrigation, harvesting citrus, food processing/packing, landscaping, etc). I definitely recommend a visit.

This farm is a rare find in the high desert. Chase is a genuine wealth of local, ecological, and practical knowledge, and he shares it generously. The land itself is beautiful, peaceful, and alive with the wildlife and rhythms of the desert—an inspiring place to work and learn.
What really sets Milagro apart is the community Chase has built. It’s a crew of like-minded, grounded people who support each other and take pride in doing things the right way. If you show up ready to work, learn, and contribute, you’ll fit right in.
My time here was fulfilling, transformative, and deeply rewarding. You’ll leave with real skills, a stronger work ethic, and a better understanding of what desert farming requires. For WWOOFers who want hands-on experience, good people, and a place that genuinely gives back what you put into it, this farm is an excellent choice.
