Hello WWOOFers, my name is Danika and together with my wife L we raise heritage breed chickens for hatching, table eggs, and meat. We also grow specialty vegetables and flowers all organically! We have a large glass greenhouse where we start all our plants from seed using the soil block method so that we can reduce our plastic consumption. Our farm traces back to the 1700s and we’ve done extensive renovations to the house and two attached barns while honoring its original character. Kind of ironic given way back then we would have been burned at the stake for being witches! We also have an amusing group of dogs that call the farm home as well.
Mornings always start with the roosters singing to each other. We do animal chores first on the farm, checking all 6 coops and any babies in the brooders, grow out bins, and tractor. Next we check on the vegetables and flowers. If it’s a harvesting day we get the bins out and get to work. Other days we weed, seed, and plant new plants. After lunch we arrange flowers if it’s a CSA or market day, candle and set eggs for hatching, tag and vaccinate newly hatched chicks and make organic soap. We love to teach about organic chicken breeding and keeping, growing vegetables and flowers. Our farm is 100% committed to sustainable farming practices.
We have a 28’ airstream on our property for WWOOFers to stay in. We have breakfast together in the morning, lunch is informal, just grab what you like from the kitchen or the garden and then we all eat together for dinner. We can accommodate most food issues and are vegetarian friendly.
We love to cook, especially Mexican food! Our farm is a nonprofit that runs a co op and teaches classes to the community. There is a ton of nearby hiking and a community beach at a lake a short drive away. We are 30 minutes from the coast and climbing and 1 hour from Boston.
