A micro-farm nestled among mountains, plains, and sky.
New Mexico
We are Nina and Dylan, a husband and wife duo living in rural San Pedro, NM. We own and operate a micro-farm on 10 acres of piñon-juniper woodlands and native grassland that is solely supported by rainwater catchment (we don't have a well!). We purchased the property in 2023 and have been expanding our farm ever since. Currently, we raise meat rabbits, chickens, ducks for eggs, dairy sheep, and maintain a very small garden. In addition, we have three pups (one is a livestock guardian dog) and two cats. Nina's mom also lives on the farm in a tiny house with her cat and dog. Most of our products are for on-farm use at the moment, but we plan to start selling eggs in late summer 2025 and begin a herdshare in spring 2026 as well as attend local markets to sell sheep milk soaps. Our main goal is to provide food to our hyper-local community, focusing on neighbors first, and if there's surplus, expanding to local markets.
Routine morning and evening chores include milking the sheep, moving sheep fencing, feeding chickens and ducks, feeding and moving rabbits, and watering the garden. Other projects may consist of natural building, weeding and removing invasive plants (cholla, tumbleweeds, cheatgrass), building water harvesting earthworks, plumbing greywater systems, and improving and repairing infrastructure, among others. WWOOFers will primarily work with Nina, who has many years of experience in animal husbandry and dairying and is eager to teach basic animal health, milking, cheese/yogurt/soap making, etc. She is also a certified Water Harvesting Practitioner and can instruct WWOOFers on water harvesting earthworks, rain collection, and greywater systems. WWOOFers can expect to work from 7am-noon, 5 days a week with two full days off. In the evenings, we rotate who's responsible for completing evening animal/garden chores, cooking dinner, and doing dishes. WWOOFers will work alongside Nina until they feel comfortable and confident performing specific tasks independently or with another WWOOFer.
This year (2025-2026), we have received funding through the New Mexico Healthy Soil Program to tackle wind erosion, low organic matter, and biodiversity loss. The project aims to establish a drought-tolerant food forest and windbreak, utilizing organic amendments, mulching, cover cropping, and perennials to enhance soil structure, increase fertility, and support a biodiverse ecosystem. We could certainly use some help in implementing this project, and it's a great opportunity to learn about permaculture design, silvopasture, windbreak systems, and soil amendments. Nina's friend Jess Soza is a wealth of knowledge and is assisting with this project. Working alongside and learning from Jess is an incredible experience!
Currently, we can only offer camping as an accommodation. WWOOFers are welcome to tent or car/van/trailer camp. We have a 3-person tent that can be equipped with a full-size air mattress or a 2-person tent with sleeping pads. All bedding/pillows are provided as well as solar lights. WWOOFers will have full access to an indoor bathroom, our kitchen, and common space. Of course, if WWOOFers have their own vehicle or camping equipment they would like to use, they are welcome to do so! In inclement weather, WWOOFers are welcome to set up camp inside for the night. We plan to have family dinners, while breakfast and lunch will likely be on everyone's own. WWOOFers can access our full kitchen in the house and the pantry/fridge will be stocked.
We both love any and all outdoor activities. Dylan is an avid climber and Nina loves to mountain bike, backpack, and bikepack. There are trails right out our back door. We are about 45 minutes away from the Sandia Mountains (a mecca for hiking, biking, and climbing), an hour from Santa Fe, 40 minutes from Albuquerque, and an hour and a half from the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Even though we live rurally, we're pretty close to things to do.
Looking forward to the possibility of having you on the farm!

WWOOFing here with Nina was an amazing experience. I learned a ton about dairy sheep, Hügelkultur, soap making, tending to rabbits, chickens, and ducks, building with cob, carpentry, and a host of other things. Most importantly, Nina was incredibly hospitable and I hope we remain good friends for a long time. If you're interested in visiting a dairy sheep farm in the piñon-juniper forest of the Southwest, this would be time well spent.

What a wonderful place to get to spend time, and awesome people to spend it with. I couldn't think of anything I would suggest to Nina and Dylan that they could improve. They are fun, kind, and great communicators. I got to learn about their sheep, rabbits, and building with cob. I also had plenty of time to explore the mountains behind their house and take a couple little trips to Bandelier and Carlsbad caverns. I'm going to miss my time here. Thanks guys!

I had the most amazing first time WWOOFing with Nina and Dylan. I learned a lot about homesteading in the Southwest, plus a great day diving into the basics of soil/water health and hugelkultur! The accommodations, food, and company were all top-notch, and Nina is a patient and friendly teacher when it comes to new skills like milking. I wish I could have stayed longer. Thank you both!

I am so lucky to have had the chance to WWOOF here. Nina and Dylan are thoughtful and kind hosts and are so generous with their time and presence. I learned so much from Nina and I loved working with the animals each morning and learning more about water harvesting and the creation of a permaculture garden. Both Nina and Dylan went out of their way to include extra projects I showed interest in and recommendations for my stay. Camping on the property was easy and absolutely beautiful, I would recommend coming here to everyone and anyone who wants to visit. Nina and Dylan thank you for such a wonderful visit I can’t wait to see how the farm continues to thrive!
