Situated in the rolling hills above Homer beyond the Wynn Nature Center, at 1,500 feet above sea level. Our primary activity this upcoming season includes taking care of a 1/2 acre peony field with 4 high tunnels of other flowers/plants, both annual and perennial. Typical activities include composting, weeding, and keeping our plants healthy. We also have an organic sustenance vegetable garden, egg laying chickens, and honey bees. We are looking for 2 or more WWOOFers, couples welcome, but no pets or children, April through end of September, three weeks plus, participating in a flexible schedule of 25 hours a week. Accommodations consist of a group campsite. WWOOF options include (a) 2018 Keystone Hideout multi-bed camper trailer; (b) 1968 Frolic Travel Trailer; or (c) Cabela's Alaskan Guide Model Geodesic 8-Person Tent that includes cot, sleeping pad, and sleeping bag per person with option to bring own equipment, if desired. Host is in a separate trailer and has two English Springer Spaniel dogs. Outhouse bathroom on site. Camp shower available (NEMO Helio portable pressure shower in privacy shelter). Laundry is off-site. Shared potluck family style meals. Frequent transportation to Homer provided. There are also opportunities to visit other farms. This area is a highly sought after tourist destination for wilderness hiking, kayaking, canoeing, ocean and river fishing and beach walking. Many nearby attractions! Including: the Anchor River, and Homer, with many local beach and forest trails, Kachemak Bay State Park, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, and within a half day, Kenai Fjords National Park, Seward and Exit Glacier. Transportation options available. Certifications: Because we are in a remote area of Alaska, it is difficult and expensive to be certified. We try to be as organic as possible, practicing permaculture and sustainable methods whenever feasible. We are conscientious and intentional to steward land under our care. We welcome all visitors who are physically fit and able to pick up 40 pounds, bend over, and be on their knees to weed, etc. No prior experience or knowledge of gardening or farming required. Limited Internet access and cellular service.
