Hi there! We’re Caroline and Travis, a couple living and farming in a rural river valley in Northern California. We live on a four-acre vineyard property where our home is located, and we operate a small production farm on a separate three-acre plot about three miles down the road. Our work is rooted in growing seasonal cut flowers, specialty vegetables, and fruit using organic and regenerative practices. We’re both deeply connected to land-based living and community food systems. Our days are a blend of hands-on farm work, planning and problem-solving, and learning as we grow into this next phase of our farming journey. We share our home with three friendly dogs who are very much part of daily life here and love meeting new people. Our work is highly seasonal. In the spring, days are a mix of bed preparation, planting, seeding, transplanting, and regular weeding as the farm comes back to life. We grow a large variety of cut flowers that begin blooming in spring, so this season also includes frequent harvesting and post-harvest processing. A big focus during this time is harvesting flowers and creating mixed flower bouquets for our wholesale accounts and farmers markets. WWOOFers will work alongside us in the field and in the processing area and receive hands-on training in harvesting techniques, conditioning flowers, and designing our signature mixed bouquets. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in learning the basics of small-scale flower production and market bouquets from seed to sale. WWOOFers will stay in either a small cabin or a small yurt, depending on availability and season. Both are simple, cozy spaces intended for rest and privacy. There is a half bath with plumbing located outside, and two full bathrooms with showers inside our main house. WWOOFers will have regular access to the outdoor half bath and a designated bathroom in the main house for showering. We also provide a seasonal outdoor kitchen setup that includes a refrigerator and a cook stove. The kitchen will be stocked with a variety of staple foods, and WWOOFers are welcome to prepare their own meals and snacks as needed. We grow a lot of food on the farm, and produce from the garden is often part of daily meals. We plan to share at least one meal together each day, either lunch or dinner, depending on the work schedule and season. Shared meals are an important part of farm life for us and a chance to connect, check in, and enjoy the food we’re growing together. Outside of farm work, we love spending time outdoors and staying connected to our creative practices. We live less than a mile from a scenic river spot that’s perfect for swimming, fishing, and, depending on the season, rafting or tubing. It’s a favorite place to unwind after a day in the fields. We’re big fans of camping, backpacking, skiing and snowboarding, mushroom foraging, and cycling. We have several bikes available for WWOOFers to borrow for exploring the area. Our location offers easy access to incredible wild places. We’re a couple of hours from world-class backpacking in the Trinity Alps and also within a couple of hours of Redwood National and State Parks. There are plenty of opportunities nearby for hiking, river days, quiet nature time, and exploring Northern California’s rugged beauty.

My stay at Harvest Moon Homestead was everything I had hoped for and more! Caroline and Travis were incredibly welcoming and I felt right at home. We gained lots of hands-on experience with planting dahlia tubers, seeding and transplanting starters, bouquet making and prepping the beds for the coming season. The work was not too strenuous and we were always accompanied by their sweet animals. A highlight for me during my stay was going to the saturday market in Arcata where we helped sell bouquets and had time to explore other vendors’ offerings. Travis was an exceptional chef and our fridge and pantry were kept stocked with fresh, nutritious food. The housing accomodations were cute and tidy, I absolutely loved staying in the yurt and falling asleep looking at the moon and stars. I highly recommend WWOOFing at Harvest Moon Homestead if you're looking to be close to nature, be with kind people who are passionate about what they do, enjoy a slower pace of living and grow your knowledgebase of flower farming! 10/10!
