I live on a progressive, eco-conscious, non-smoking and LGBTQ+ friendly homestead nestled in rural Osage County, Kansas. The farmhouse is surrounded by beautiful, mature trees that give the immediate property a peaceful, park-like feel. The homestead sits on a quiet, low-traffic gravel road, offering a serene and grounding environment. The core of my project centers on sustainable living, land stewardship, and a deep respect for nature. As a single host, my goal is to manage this diverse land responsibly while providing an inclusive, quiet, and drama-free space where people can connect with the rhythms of rural life. In addition to some beehives, I have some horses, alpacas, and multiple cats and dogs, both inside and outside. At some point, I may re-introduce angora goats, which I have raised in the past.
Daily activities focus animal care, particularly routine grooming and mucking stalls, alongside the general oversight of my fiber animals, and processing fiber. Depending on the season, I also have a large vegetable garden, a young orchard, a developing vineyard, and beehives. I am excited to teach serious, enthusiastic learners about animal husbandry, fiber processing, sustainable fruit and vegetable production, and the basics of operating farm machinery. A typical day might include:
Morning: Outdoor chores while it is cool—mucking stalls, grooming the horses, and checking on the animals.
Mid-Day: Shifting to the garden, orchard, or vineyard for seasonal tasks like weeding, pruning, harvesting, or light property repairs.
Afternoon/Evening: The 25-hour weekly schedule (or 15–20 hours each for a couple) is highly flexible. Once the core tasks are wrapped up, your afternoons and evenings are completely your own to relax, work on hobbies, or explore.
You will stay inside the main farmhouse in a comfortable, private bedroom. You will have full use of the guest bathroom, which is only shared when I have guests. High-speed internet and streaming TV are fully included. Food is provided via a stocked kitchen where there is always food available for you to prepare your own meals. While I do not always cook structured meals, when I do cook, I am always happy to share. The kitchen is yours to use, and I gladly accommodate individuals or fit couples (young or mature) who maintain a clean, tidy, and organized shared living space.
I have a full time, remote, IT job. When I am not working, either from my home office or on the property, I enjoy the peace and quiet of country living. I have several hobbies, including woodworking, and fiber activities. I also enjoy evenings around the fire and loving on my animals. This is a non-smoking, respectful home where downtime is cherished. For outdoor lovers, the farm is located just 10 minutes away from a beautiful reservoir, which is an amazing spot for swimming, hiking, boating, or just relaxing on your days off. The surrounding Osage County countryside offers quiet roads perfect for long walks or biking. It is the ideal location for an independent person or couple who appreciates nature, values their own space, and wants a serene base camp to explore eastern Kansas.
